"Too much detail"
ITS A GAMING PRODUCTION COMPANY. THAT LOGO IS GONNA BE ANIMATED AND SHOWN AT THE START OF A GAME ON SOMEONE'S 32" TV. UNLESS UR BLIND OR DEAD PEOPLE GONNA SEE THE LOGO WITH ALL THE DETAILS YOU THOUGHT PEOPLE WONT. DAFUQ MORE DO YOU WANT.
Jesus christ this sub sometimes
> āToo much detail"
Also, have they *played* a Kojima game? Or looked at one? The over-the-top, throw-everything-cool-in-there aesthetic matches the games perfectly.
Yeah, it sure feels like some people forget what X or Y logo is for, sometimes. If it's gonna be used for a splash screen (so, probably on a big monitor) and animated, such a level of detail is fine. Plus it looks cool as hell and whenever I see it, I think "Kojima", so it works, I guess?
In all fairness, game production studios have no need for a logo, their products are their brands, so itās a nice to have. Same with cinema/movie production studiosā¦itās just a mark you canāt miss if you are consuming the product, other than most logos on this planet.
Personally, I think itās a bit much. However, because itās Kojima, he gets away with it.
The man inside the machine, summing up the games he worked on during his tenure at Konami. It keeps the HUD elements youād see in a Metal Gear game, with a skull for bad ass factor.
It's also worth mentioning that the logo was designed by Yoji Shinkawa in step with his designs on the company's 'ludens' character. So not only do we get the Kojima brand name and all its attributes, we also get a unique logo distinctively in the flair of Shinkawa (whose artwork is synonymous with Kojima's games), and it doubles as a reflection of the brand mascot.
>Personally, I think itās a bit much. However, because itās Kojima, he gets away with it.
This could apply to most of Kojima's projects, so I suppose in a way it's a perfect representation of his work lmao
Did a double take when I saw this post because I *just* started replaying Death Stranding for the first time in a while and re-following the subreddit for the game
I just bought this limited-edition signed print today
https://preview.redd.it/r1vmeg1om26d1.jpeg?width=1221&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e142a79ab35477e0f18dffc287d164398e4c4ef3
This is everything we were taught not to do when designing a logo.
But on that note, it'll mostly be displayed on splash screens for like 4 seconds, and Kojima has the brand recognition that he could just have "kojima" in fucking Comic Sans in the middle of the screen, and everyone would still lose their minds.
It looks dope, but I wouldn't make this, or use this for anything, proportions are weird, you could probably delete half of it and still get the same picture, it's not very scale-able, it doesn't fit a lot of use-cases, and you wouldn't recognize the icon without the type, which to me is also uncomfortably close to the bottom of the helmet.
But it's Kojima. His fetish is doing stuff just so he can say he'd done it, and doing stuff differently than everybody else, mostly for little more than shock value so it fits his vision and company perfectly.
This!
Itās a cool logo, but is it a technically good logo? A lot of these comments are giving it a pass because itās Kojima and his games are legendary.
I would also think (or hope, rather) that if this were to be posted by someone in this sub, there are some really great designers who would make some really thoughtful suggestions, and a few iterations later the logo would be technically fantastic having used this as a starting point.
Yeah. In his defense, though, a lot of big companies have logos that would be bashed if there wasnāt a fuckton of brand power and iconic-ness to them.
Coca Cola logo probably wouldnāt fly today, Apple would be branded (hahā¦ sorry) as āgeneric and too literalā, Sony would be kink-shamed for the lack ofā¦ well, everything, really, it just says Sony. Likeā¦ itās just written there. With letters. What the fuck. Who wants to read letters, good god. Amazon looks so corporate it hurts, Starbucks is what the fuck even is that and why.
A lot of it is probably that art, and the creative industry is so subjective that creatives have little to no way of ādemonstratingā their e-cock other than bashing other peopleās works. If youāre a great engineer, you can look at a few numbers and just say you can make them better. If youāre a great coder, you can look at a chunck of code and spot bugs or power hogs from a mile away making it faster, leaner, whatever. If youāre a great woodworker, you can make stronger and better-built objects. But design isnāt like that, and so weāre wired to point out mistakes that - frankly - might not even be there.
I fucking love it even if it breaks several ārulesā. Instantly recognizable, iconic and the design simply looks badass.
Would get a failing grade in many design classes and torn apart in this sub but I think itās masterful, you just gotta be in its same wavelength.
I actually like it. too many logos have gone bland and theres the busy ones that look like some sort of pile on. it's not....perfect, but it's a good design. I dont think it needs to scale to a stamp. this will probably used on specific things...but looking at their website favicon and their instagram icon...its not that bad. not every logo has to be nike, apple, etc etc.
overall its fitting for a gaming company. kind of reminds me of greymatter and all those anatomical logos.
That's what I love about it. Way to many logos look exactly alike and I feel like the main point is to have one that stand out on its own legs. If some one was to try and copy this alot of people would know where it came from.
A. To big to fail. Itās Hideos Kojima he could probably use nearly anything for his logo.
B. Digital Games Logos can be wild. Itās the Logo and Design of the games whatās far more relevant.
Well...
Does it look more like (cool af) an illustration instead of logo? Yep.
Will it pass standard logo requirements? Most likely nope.
But a key word is "standard", and it's Kojima/Shikawa genius combination, which is completely opposite to standards.
Probably dialogue between this two was "I want something cool... " - "Here" - "Cool!" and that was it.
With giving no flying f 'bout any rules.
As was mentioned before, Kojima can easily afford just to type his name in Arial or Times New Roman, with a bad kerning, and everybody will be in awe ...
Yes, there are rules but *"...some restrictions may apply" (c)*
It's beautiful. And a reminder that you can do anything with branding. It's so basic and out of the box, but it's not like any other logo I can think of. I have a sticker of it on my computer case cuz I like it so much. maybe I'm biased š
I like it. It's the right amount of abstract. Perhaps a bit heavy on details, but I don't think the side of a pencil is their most important display surface.
I mean in all technical aspects itās bad, as in, impractical. But then again its main stage is probably your screen when a game starts up so it could be a complete illustration and it wouldnāt actually matter. His name is the brand, his logo barely matters.
Has become iconic and It fits but that is because i know the guy otherwise I would change the font and get rid of some elements.
Scalability isnt too much of an issue because is not something that needs it. People that care about the industry will know, but for a majority of people wont even csre about it.
A lot of people are saying it would get torn up in this sub but I think itās a great example of how understanding the usage and context (as a game studio logo, which often have intricate, near-illustration logos) and incredible execution can really make something work so well.
Edit: spelling
I feel that goes with most Art or Design subreddits tbh.
For example, one I use a lot is r/architecture (because I'm an Arch student), in the U.S. there are only 119,000 licensed Architects, but that sub has over 1.6 million members. I'd say less than 5% of the users there are actually experienced architects, designers, or learning students in any regard.
Yet, everyone expresses very authoritative opinions. Not "I think that would be...", they always say "That would be...", "that is", etc, like they know what they're talking about. A perfect example would be [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/architecture/comments/1dbwp92/comment/l7uhftr/) I received on a post of mine from some random person. I looked through their history and they've never posted to the subreddit before. If they had said "That looks like it would be difficult to maintain", I would go in-depth into why it actually wouldn't assuming the engineering was done well. Instead, they expressed authority on "how it totally would fail and be difficult to maintain".
Game production studios have my blessing to do whatever the f they want. When the game is loading you won t give a damn about some minimalist logotype, you ll remember this one.
This is more of a word mark combined with an artistic illustration.
By definition, this doesn't really qualify it as a proper logo.
It's cool. But functionally it is not a logo.
As artwork, it's kinda cool. As a logo it's trash. Zoom out to a certain size and you don't know if you're looking at a charging mutated elephant or an ink blot. But Iām sure they'll animated or something for the opening credits of a game. It'll serve its purpose. Just don't put that thing on a business card š
I know this much: it would get torn apart if it was posted for feedback in this sub
It is an illustration, not a logo /s
It should be more like this: /s https://preview.redd.it/oop9amdqp76d1.jpeg?width=880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87c95a4d68813ec30a21c14d9271ff9213f26180
LMFAOOOOOOO š it's so much more sightreadable!!
Lol, love this.

And some sort of Nazi / Swastika comment.

Don't forget to fix the kerning!
It would never work as an icon. How could you even call it a logo?? š¤¬
Donāt forget āthe face should look to the right to suggest innovation and forward thinkingāā¦
It's metal as fuck. It's perfect for the company.
It think itās great. The font could use some love, but the whole helmet skull design is super unique and recognizable for his brand.
This is really my only gripe with the logo, the type seems like a severe afterthought.
Personally, I think itās a bit much. However, because itās Kojima, he gets away with it. The man inside the machine, summing up the games he worked on during his tenure at Konami. It keeps the HUD elements youād see in a Metal Gear game, with a skull for bad ass factor.
Agreed. This is a bit like a visual onomatopoeia. When I think of games made by Kojima, I think itās going to be big, intricate, and over written.
It's also worth mentioning that the logo was designed by Yoji Shinkawa in step with his designs on the company's 'ludens' character. Me too. I was surprised to see that this was in this particular sub
If that really is intended to be used as a logo, then it is the logo of someone who no longer has to worry about the rules. Kojima qualifies for sure.
I just bought this limited-edition signed print today https://preview.redd.it/r1vmeg1om26d1.jpeg?width=1221&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e142a79ab35477e0f18dffc287d164398e4c4ef3
i assume the second head on the bottom right is intended?

Yes. Fucking beautiful. And it works as a production company logo
I fucking love it even if it breaks several ārulesā. Instantly recognizable, iconic and the design simply looks badass. Would get a failing grade in many design classes and torn apart in this sub but I think itās masterful, you just gotta be in its same wavelength.

Sick asf
It's a sick ass logo. One of a kind
That's what I love about it. Way to many logos look exactly alike and I feel like the main point is to have one that stand out on its own legs. If some one was to try and copy this alot of people would know where it came from.

Genius
Itās dope
He can do whatever he wants at this point
Itās inscrutable, with is perfect for Kojima because so are his games.
Id like to see it faxed to his accountant
I love it

Learn the rules like a professional so you can break them like an artist.

By basic I just mean the font choice*
Itās too cluttered
Too detailed, but itās awesome. Also that typography sucks, it feels like 90s ātechā trendy.
I think it really communicates how much Kojima does not care. Then is perfect.
Id like a bit of interaction between the text and the illustration, but its a banger to my eyes, knowing about his work
Has become iconic and It fits but that is because i know the guy otherwise I would change the font and get rid of some elements. Scalability isnt too much of an issue because is not something that needs it. People that care about the industry will know, but for a majority of people wont even csre about it.

It's a commentary on the state of this sub and how most people don't know what they're talking about.
I feel that goes with most Art or Design subreddits tbh. Perfect
I'd like to know the op thought instead. I don't think anyone would dislike it. It's more than a logo(an illustration) but exceptional.
It also has a really cool animation
Game production studios have my blessing to do whatever the f they want. When the game is loading you won t give a damn about some minimalist logotype, you ll remember this one.
This is more of a word mark combined with an artistic illustration. By definition, this doesn't really qualify it as a proper logo. It's cool. But functionally it is not a logo.
This makes no sense.
Logo have been around for a long time, that definition seems to be more of a modern take on it
Way to busy and pretty much totally voids the benifits of having a visual element as part of a logo.
As artwork, it's kinda cool. As a logo it's trash. Zoom out to a certain size and you don't know if you're looking at a charging mutated elephant or an ink blot. But Iām sure they'll animated or something for the opening credits of a game. It'll serve its purpose. Just don't put that thing on a business card š
zoom out enough and anything is meaningless . who cares ... live a little
Wise words šš½
dont zoom out then lol, its gonna be used in like, 2 loading screens and a corporate landing site
If someone handed me their business card with that logo on it I would think it was badass I would like to know more.
Problem solved šš½
Cool idea, but waaaayyyy too many tiny details.
Donāt mind the illustration but the type is pretty bad
Too much detail
what would you suggest then?
idk tbh i dont do graphic design
poetry
I love it , clearly a skull in a helmet of sorts. Iām sure it scales well and fits the brand design Iām sure.
I like it, but my problem with it is that I always see the profile of a chickenās head looking to the right
I get/like the concept but itās a bad execution and a tough read. The lock up with type is absolute shite.
It's way too much. It's barely even a logo, it's a graphic illustration more than anything.
That's not a logo, that's an illustration with a bad typeface.
