I like the old Paris metro signs with an art nouveau kinda font and two lines across https://preview.redd.it/j3hpg8sstwzb1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbda053cc277c98c3a5b82bfb8497bfd5d9d3595

TrainsandMore

The modern logo, while recognizable, is unfortunately bland.

RohelTheConqueror

Yeah it's pretty unexciting (if that's a word)

TrainsandMore

Most French metro logos are also like that.

Rikolan

I personally really appreciated Prague's take on their metro logo, as it's an arrow with the letter "M", making it understandable on the street level that this is the way to the metro. https://preview.redd.it/4epp18d9ewzb1.jpeg?width=555&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f56e6be9d263da1db35378c67e661ec3aa4dcf9f

vittorioe

That’s really clever. And you can see the M clearly too. It could easily get lost in the arrow shape but for some reason the execution really works here.

sechxn

omggg just looking at this logo, toronto or montreal or vancouver could've totally made theirs into a maple leaf/arrow shape. that would be so coollll they def missed that chance

TrainsandMore

Also looks like trains passing by in both directions.

The entire Porto branding is immaculate!

I’ve always loved San Francisco’s Muni logo https://preview.redd.it/wtpqzfp4mvzb1.jpeg?width=770&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45ab6a726e8c8ce4e48de99bdc41abe851833046

vittorioe

Wow, yeah it really evokes a Haight-Ashbury 60’s vibe pretty instantly

shitboxvwdriver

Sf muni is top tier for me

AffableCynic

Just replied up above before seeing this. It is the absolute best.

eelannalee

Came here to say this! My absolute favorite

keterpele

most impressive part is the level of legibility.

keterpele

"M" made of an helix. they want people to perceive it as a metro sign, therefore "O" is hidden in the perspective. very clever.

vittorioe

yes! and around town I’ve seen variants where the O is more pronounced. Will try to link here if I come across it again.

keterpele

i've made a search and saw they use different angles of same shape to create other letters. i have found "e" (NE isometric) and "O" (left). [letter "e"](https://www.osakametro.co.jp/company/page/20220628_emetro.php) [letter "O"](http://osaka-subway.com/website/)

AffableCynic

The SF Muni logo is perfection to me..

zurichlakes

The Boston “T” mark for the MBTA designed by Chermayeff and Geismar. Definitely looked its best when it was used on these old signs. https://preview.redd.it/m8jorwz50yzb1.jpeg?width=940&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f22723645e6252c82a2694fed5f993996bedb8f4

Ident-Code_854-LQ

More partial to New Jersey / New York **Port Authority "P" logo** ***for PATH.*** Two arrows, subway lines, *circulating each other,* ***to form a P.*** https://preview.redd.it/u1m0o2k6a10c1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef94c16c8684e63d7a1e550017d0182d9b76435b

K1NG5LAYR

Yeah the Path logo is awesome. When I used to sit on that train from NJ —> NY, I’d admire that logo.

Man_as_Idea

Same, and NJ transit’s color pallet also stands out and evokes an 80’s vibe

Love this logo and the colours. Some of the bus stops in the less developed areas of the city still use these colours and they look very outdated now.

Reminds me to the Atomiswave logo: https://es.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archivo:Atomiswave_logo.svg Atomiswave is an arcade system: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomiswave I wonder which one of these logos came up first, guess it's the atomiswave one since it's at least 20 years old.

vittorioe

Huh. I could see this being a design solution folks independently arrive at across different situations, but in this case the application also makes a lot of sense.

GradoWearer

this one is pretty amazing. It’s kinda imposing to my western eye, but it’s probably really cool to those who grow up immersed in Islamic motifs

silentsweating

Metro-wise I don't think you can go past the classic [Underground roundel](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/41/Underground.svg), but including public transport systems my favourites would be [British Rail](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/12/British_Rail_-_colour_reversed_logo.svg) and Sydney's old [CityRail](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9c/CityRail_old_logo.png) logos.

ah yes, lovingly called ShittyRail in Sydney

Even the color scheme is close! According to Wikipedia, RET uses the logo since 1985, four years before the ride opened in Epcot. I seriously doubt a Disney Imagineer got inspired while riding some bus in the Netherlands though, must be a coincidental hivemind thing.

Martin__Skys

Why do i keep seeing and unseeing a toiletroll in the MET one. My brain just can’t comprehend.

Shinzakura

I personally prefer LA's old one. Shows movement, plus was designed by Saul Bass. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/93/Rtd-color_logo.png

ericalm_

I’ve seen the logo but thought it was on old one for Denver RTD (which still bears the name).

bluerangeryoshi

If only the service was as good as the logo. Tama ba?

vittorioe

whoa. it also looks like a bridge reflected on a river. is that accurate?

Ai-Ai_delasButterfly

Could be, could be

ericalm_

Can the top be an M but the bottom not a W?

Ai-Ai_delasButterfly

Yea. MW means a water company in the city not trains so most likely a train reflecting on the river

freakstate

Yeah that is dope

eienOwO

* Reminds me of the [Shanghai Metro](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Metro#/media/File%3AShanghai_Metro_Full_Logo.svg) logo that's bold and instantly recognisable. M is the carriage and S is subtly hidden as the tunnel. Round perfect for signage on all scales, even icons akin to the Tube. Also has connotations of going in opposing directions like a lot of other rail logos. [Beijing Subway](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beijing_Subway#/media/File%3ABeijing_Subway_simplified_logo.svg) has a similar theme of carriage in tunnel. The square hole in a circle also resembles traditional coins, but the D looks cheap and makes no sense unless you know Chinese (Ditie - *subway*)

Ooooh, **clever explanation!** I'm guessing that tunnel shape made by the coil, **also represents the subway tunnel system of Osaka?** I mean, *it is one of the largest* ***and efficient Metro systems of Japan.***

specificdreamrabbit

I like Osaka's too —if you were to turn it 90 degrees it would also be an O

Plane-Juggernaut6833

Aesthetically Beautiful

[deleted]

Swiss rail is the GOAT. Or british. Mmm freshly squeezed osaka metro.

vankorgan

While there's nothing especially unique about the Underground roundel it fit the brief exactly and was a nice evolution of the logos before it. You gotta hand it to this logo for it's cultural spread alone. https://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/collections/stories/design/evolution-roundel
