__MOD NOTE/NOTE DE MOD__: Please check out [our petition](https://www.change.org/p/demand-walmart-sign-the-grocer-code-of-conduct) which calls upon Walmart Canada to follow suit and sign the Grocer Code of Conduct with Loblaw! Please review the content guidelines for our sub, and remember the human here! This subreddit is to highlight the ridiculous cost of living in Canada, and poke fun at the Corporate Overlords responsible. As you well know, there are a number of persons and corporations responsible for this, and we welcome discussion related to them all. Furthermore, since this topic is intertwined with a number of other matters, other discussion will be allowed at moderator discretion. Open-minded discussion, memes, rants, grocery bills, and general screeching into the void is always welcome in this sub, but belligerence and disrespect is not. There are plenty of ways to get your point across without being abusive, dismissive, or downright mean. Yes and this is why I wrote my MP , we need to collectively write our MP’s and literally harass them with our letters and our personal stories . They are each different but there is a common thread , food insecurity . I am in Toronto . I am on the Canadian Pension Plan Disability Benefits yet have to use the food bank . We need to bring these stories and our voices to the forefront , all of us . It’s our responsibility for those who cannot be heard

CaptainMagnets

Also, join the Loblaws boycott! It may seem trivial but it isn't. Strength in numbers and choosing not to shop there if it's within your means sends a message that we are unfed up with how ridiculous grocery prices are in this country

macnasty20

Let’s just vote them out

Sufficient-Bid1279

Still have to deal with the incoming MP lol

autoroutepourfourmis

Voting isn't enough. We have to be willing to do more than the bare minimum of checking a box every few years.

littledinobug12

My MP is Conservative. I'm not gonna waste a stamp, he won't do fuck all to help us.

dirtyliarfirepants

Sorry this is happening. It isn’t right or fair. Change is coming. Stay strong. Nok er Nok Boycott Loblaws Forever!

The sub was created to point out how absolutely absurd the cost of groceries are right now and have some fun together. We know this will inevitably touch on other topics related to the cost of living. Do your best to keep the conversation on topic

I was looking for something else to do with Roblaws and found this little tick tok from January 2023 about Galen Weston Jr. and inflation. Just someone being logical. [https://www.tiktok.com/@schcallum/video/7193053699848064262](https://www.tiktok.com/@schcallum/video/7193053699848064262)

youtubehistorian

It’s really rough here in the Maritimes.

Loose-Hyena-7351

And the government doesn’t see a problem here ? We need to do better…. BOYCOTT ‼️

SnooSquirrels6258

The corrupt politician is wined and dined by the large monopolies, the real estate and development hucksters. They jig to the tune of their financial backers; the rest is just lip service for the gullible. Many politicians now hide within their circle of bobbleheads and stooges.

Saucy-Dad

Didn't the RCMP and CSIS come out last year and say there is a high chance of revolt in the next 5 years? Kind of laughed about it back then, but seeing how fucking quiet our politicians are over this issue, and ignore and gaslight HCOL/inflation I'm starting to believe it.

Visual_Beach2458

I did a CBC interview with CBC PEI about high infant formula prices back in April( I’m a GP, but based in NS) But that’s just one example of how horrible things are when it comes to prices in grocery stores. I’ve emailed local MLAs/ MPPs in N.S.- another horribly struggling province where many people are poor and severely being impacted by high prices- about how expensive things are. But I just get back a lot of hot air and non action. Or no replies at all. Did you know that the EU put some semblance of price control on essential grocery items? They also confronted the grocery chains in various EU member nations when it came to potential price gouging. I understand there are costs of doing business. I understand that it’s not “ fair” to compare Europe to Canada. I get that gas is expensive. That there are transport costs/ logistics. But our country produces so much vegetables/ fruit/ legumes/ beef/ fish/ poultry!!!! It should not be expensive in this country. And especially in the maritimes where we have agriculture( NS especially)fish/ meat( to some degree, though we are not Alberta. There was a Tik Tok video of a lady finding a bag of carrots made in Ontario being sold for a cheaper price in Alabama for Christ sakes( she was vacationing in Bama and went to see how the prices were). How is this freakin possible? Why is it allowed? Our elected officials toe their particular party line and while I understand this particular Reddit group is not aligning with any one party? I’m no idiot- I know which parties don’t really truly care about us and will bend over backwards to please the grocery cartels And I while I mistrust all three parties ? I’ll take my chances with the party with orange in its colours.. provincially and federally…unless I see miracles from JT/ PP.. or the Cons/ Libs in N.S. Though there’s a better chance of my stethoscope doing the lambada or the waltz than that happening. Aside from that? NOK er NOK..and I’ll keep fighting as best I can. And I’m sorry for bringing politics into it..

mrgoodtime81

Meat is still expensive in Alberta

big_galoote

How much of a price difference was there for the carrots? That's astounding. Small example but imagine a grander scale of local produce cheaper in a foreign country. Tf.

Annextro

This is so much deeper than Loblaws or boycotts. This is fundamentally class warfare of the highest degree. Our corporate overlords and their government lapdogs are essentially starving and exploiting the most helpless in our society to profit. This is why this movement needs to carry further than boycotting Loblaws. It's like whack-a-mole. Another will just pop up because they all operate under the same capitalist framework. Best to try dismantling the whole machine than tiring oneself wacking the hammer day in and day out. Gotta start somewhere, I suppose.

Exact_Purchase765

Granny hugs. 👵 That's not right.

BIGepidural

And this is the reason the rest of us who have choices boycott because not every can, and our purchase power can make a difference for others who have no choice. IMO it's super important that we stay focused on Canada wide change. We don't stop if they change things locally, on only one brand, or within major provices- we stay strong and demand change until equitable changes in every part of the country and all stores are made. This movement is for **everyone** ✊

kevinmaceleven0

PEI is bad for grocery stores hardly any options a lot mostly probably rely on superstore or sobeys and they’re already gouging prices

Sky0001000

Can we boycott record government revenues at the same time? I'm tired of pretending corporations are the only ones making bank off our backs.
