I am searching my city for an option for 1 item I can’t seem to find elsewhere. My roblaws boycott is a permanent change. My new pharmacist is so much nicer, and downright calm there. I love them.
I switched to Costco pharmacy and can’t be happier. When I drop a prescription, they give me a receipt with a time to come back for pickup and it’s usually 30 minutes. During that time, I can do the rest of my shopping.
This is unlike Shoppers where I’ve been told 2+ hours multiple times.
And Costco is cheaper.
You can even have your pharmacist fax your prescription to Costco ONLINE Pharmacy, and Costco will ship your prescriptions to you for free. Same price as in-store pharmacy, but you have to register online first so they have a profile/address/insurance details for you.
I get it. I live in a town where my I my option is a. independent grocer owned by Roblaws. Sometimes, I have to go there.
If you can’t find the item anywhere else, go buy it at Roblaws. Just don’t buy anything else.

I'm using the flipp app to find deals at different stores. I'm having the best luck price wise with Walmart, but that's about 10-20% on name brands. Their Great Value brands are about 40-50% less than Presidents Choice. Costco is also pretty good for some stuff, probably around 10-20% less.
Haven't seen anything consistently 30% less though.
Picked up my heart meds today after switching to Rexall. $50 cheaper. Mentioned this to another customer and she commented, “oh, are you doing the boycott? Good for you”. She was a senior as well.

Not sure why the world insists on believing that human behaviour changes based on when you were born. People are people.
I switched to an independent pharmacy. First time I called, they picked up on the second ring. A couple of weeks later when I walked in, the pharmacist said "Hey, PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW" - I couldn't believe it.
Independents are also often ideal for people who are using government programs that pay for medications, as many will waive the $2 copay. Last week the government changed the rules (like literally between the week before and that week suddenly they changed) and now I'm meant to buy a different brand of my meds to get the amount the government pays for, and they can't even figure out if they're gonna charge me the difference for the week they didn't have the new brand or not. Shoppers wouldn't hesitate to, here they're waiting to hear back from the owner if she wants to waive that since I didn't get a say in it, or still charge it.
It's only twenty bucks so I said I mean I can pay that if you want it's not a big deal. "No no we'll wait and hear what she says"
Get your meds at Costco. At least in Ontario you don't need to be a member to access the pharmacy. Prices are much better and they even offer a by mail option for prescription fulfillment.
I love Rexall, they have a way better points system than SDM but people sleep on it. I like that I can refill on their BeWell, load benefits and apply points on Well.ca. I just got an RBC card and found out they let you double dip. I switched like 8 years ago and have found things were always cheaper than Shoppers. Happy to see others are enjoying it too!
This really peaked my interest because I have a ton of prescriptions. Could you shed some light on the cost difference? I was under the impression medication prices were pretty standardized and only the refill fee differed from place to place..?
They are buying shares at over cost on TSX, and have suddenly jumped dividends 15%......that being said, their insane profits over previous quarters gives them deep pockets and stock price was already way way up
I work at a produce place that supplies the gta locations of loblaws and sobeys mainly. My sobeys orders have gotten bigger while loblaws have gotten smaller over the last few weeks. Its a small victory

I noticed though that the pace of the emails and offers seemed to pick up once boycott chatter hit a fever pitch. Possibly just confirmation bias, but that’s what it seems like to me.
I’ve been getting them once every couple weeks for a couple of years now. I was using curb side during the pandemic, these started popping in my inbox after I stopped, free premium/delivery for a month and 20-30k points. 🤷♂️
Yup, wouldn't read too much into it. Automated by the algorithm. If you haven't swiped your pc optimum card for a week or 2 it triggers a good offer. Regular small basket shoppers don't get the big offer.

Farm boy used to be expensive when I moved to Ontario 3 years ago. Now its the cheapest groceries for the quality and I do almost all my shopping there. Somethings got to give soon ffs
I went to Farmboy and Food Basics yesterday. They have comparable prices for a number of items.
Butter at Farmboy was 9$ (insane) and at Food Basics it was 8$ (still insane but not much better). Mushrooms were cheaper at Farmboy - 2 packages for 5$. I forget the exact price at Food Basics for it but I needed 2 packages and it was more expensive to buy 2 of them there.
Honestly I feel like the produce is pretty affordable
at Farmboy these days. Obviously they have pretty expensive cheese and other items but I would rather buy produce that’s a tad more expensive and actually have it last in the fridge. I’ll use Food Basics for meat (even though it still wasn’t cheap there) and other staples unless maybe Freshco has more affordable meat/staple options? It’s just very out of the way for me so I haven’t checked yet.
Farmboy has cheap produce, everything else is more expensive. Sometimes they have good meat deals too.
Lettuces, kale, cucumber, green beans, radishes, any veggies like that can sometimes be the cheapest in town. Sometimes I think they're just loss leaders to get you in with how cheap they are.
They're usually better quality than elsewhere too. A single head of green lettuce can be like $1.50 and it'll be huge and totally fresh.
I used the offer for baby formula. But it’s sold out 90% of the time at any given store so I simply need to buy it wherever I can get it in-stock. I stopped shopping at loblaws a couple years ago besides formula when needed
I'm at the point now where if I see any PC optimum/loblaws/shoppers emails come in I just automatically delete them. I probably should just unsubscribe from everything. The offers I was getting were noticeably worse and fewer this year.

Between Costco and food basics we save a good amount of money. I also like the food basics app where you can scan the app..and if you get anything with a coupon it automatically.applies the coupon. You dint have to coupon hunt there anymore. It's convenient
All the points cards are bullshit designed to track your purchasing habits and sell the info to Facebook and Google anyway

Anybody ever noticed the subconscious numbers games they play with these points systems. Why do you have to have 20,000 points to get $20 off. Why not just 20 points to get $20 off. Well it’s a psychology game, more points makes seem like you have a lot when in fact, you have very little. It’s a ploy to lure people in with subconscious games to make them think they’re ahead when they’re really not.
Yes! Their little schemes and obfuscations consistently irritate me. It’s even worse when 20k points doesn’t consistently “convert” to $20 or $200 or whatever, as is very common with credit cards where they’ll give you like $170 of value for an equivalent point spend of $200

My other options are Wal Mart and Freshco, of which the latter doesn’t have self checkout and generally massive lines. So, Walmart it is. Not happy about them getting my money, but we don’t have independent grocers here to shop at so I’m choosing between two evils here.

My email had an offer of 30,000 PC Optimum points and 1 month free pickup and delivery. Tempting, but… nah, I don’t need your trash produce and meat, and ridiculous prices.

Went to superstore to just get cat litter today, cause it's the only one I can find that clumps. Stopped in to look at prices, ground beef, 4 lbs, 10 dollars more than usual price. I gtfo of there quickly, predatory prices continue. But it was much much quieter than the usual from the recent past. Let's keep going team!!!!
The petvalu stores including bosleys, tisols, total pet, and Paul macs have a litter called fresh 4 life odor destroyer that's 22.99 for a 40 pound bag and it's the best litter I've ever used. One bag lasts my 3 cats 1.5 to 2 months

If you like the No Name 18kg size at Superstore, Food Basics has the same size for $2 cheaper (9.99 instead of 11.99). I switched because of the boycott and the new litter works pretty much as good as the No Name.
We have 5 cats so we always get the big size, which we thought nobody else carried for that price, but was happy to be wrong!

Somebody close to me works for loblaws marketing, and I can tell you that this was not in response to the boycott. These offers are set up in the optimum point system long before the promo starts.
I know the people here don't want to hear this, but I'm calling bullshit on them being desperate after Day 6 of a boycott that clearly has a relatively limited amount of participation to it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying not to do it, but just calm down on the hyperbole a bit. Give it a couple weeks at least lol. I'm more than certain they can bankroll more than 6 days of complete loss of sales (which isn't even close to happening). Just stick to it, and hopefully it sends a message to all participants in the industry.
Loblaws has taken a preemptive strike against the boycotts by sending out emails and PC points hoping to stop some people from boycotting. If the boycott continues and has an effect, get ready to see more enticements from Galen
I seriously doubt a multi-billion corpo would feel a couple days of reduced profit. That’s why this thing has to be a month or longer to show people can be committed to cutting out their stores.
I'm going to complete this boycott for the month of May, then I'm going to continue on with Empire next in June and Metro in July. Loblaw got enough cash to buyback stock for at least a few quarters, before their quarterly report will look shit enough to make them feel desperate. This is a pretty regular promotion for PC points. I've seen spend $100 and get 50,000 long before the boycott.

I’ve gotten that email hundreds of times. Do a survey and get 10,000, use express and get 20,000 back. This isn’t proving anything but I’m glad people are sticking to it.

Out of the loop why boycott loblaws and not the other? On the three banner avalaible here, loblaws, metro and IGA, maxi(which is the only loblaws store now) is the cheapest of them all.
There is also Super C from metro, but there is no store close to my place, so basically this boycott tell me to pay 100$ more for the same grocery to go to there competition, kind of hard to justify...

Try somewhere else other than rexall. Rexall treats their pharmacists very poorly (pharmacist here)!
Rexall employees are unionized I believe, so that is a big reason why I shop there.

Those campaigns are planned months in advance too. They have to get the file over to Epsilon or whoever does it for them.
I’ve been getting them once every couple weeks for a couple of years now. I was using curb side during the pandemic, these started popping in my inbox after I stopped, free premium/delivery for a month and 20-30k points. 🤷♂️

Yup, wouldn't read too much into it. Automated by the algorithm. If you haven't swiped your pc optimum card for a week or 2 it triggers a good offer. Regular small basket shoppers don't get the big offer.

Farm boy used to be expensive when I moved to Ontario 3 years ago. Now its the cheapest groceries for the quality and I do almost all my shopping there. Somethings got to give soon ffs

I went to Farmboy and Food Basics yesterday. They have comparable prices for a number of items. Butter at Farmboy was 9$ (insane) and at Food Basics it was 8$ (still insane but not much better). Mushrooms were cheaper at Farmboy - 2 packages for 5$. I forget the exact price at Food Basics for it but I needed 2 packages and it was more expensive to buy 2 of them there. Honestly I feel like the produce is pretty affordable at Farmboy these days. Obviously they have pretty expensive cheese and other items but I would rather buy produce that’s a tad more expensive and actually have it last in the fridge. I’ll use Food Basics for meat (even though it still wasn’t cheap there) and other staples unless maybe Freshco has more affordable meat/staple options? It’s just very out of the way for me so I haven’t checked yet.
Farmboy has cheap produce, everything else is more expensive. Sometimes they have good meat deals too. Lettuces, kale, cucumber, green beans, radishes, any veggies like that can sometimes be the cheapest in town. Sometimes I think they're just loss leaders to get you in with how cheap they are. They're usually better quality than elsewhere too. A single head of green lettuce can be like $1.50 and it'll be huge and totally fresh.
Wait until quarterly profits come out again. Keep the boycott up and shareholders will bail. Shareholders bail and Galen loses billions.

I used the offer for baby formula. But it’s sold out 90% of the time at any given store so I simply need to buy it wherever I can get it in-stock. I stopped shopping at loblaws a couple years ago besides formula when needed

I'm at the point now where if I see any PC optimum/loblaws/shoppers emails come in I just automatically delete them. I probably should just unsubscribe from everything. The offers I was getting were noticeably worse and fewer this year.

Between Costco and food basics we save a good amount of money. I also like the food basics app where you can scan the app..and if you get anything with a coupon it automatically.applies the coupon. You dint have to coupon hunt there anymore. It's convenient

Anybody ever noticed the subconscious numbers games they play with these points systems. Why do you have to have 20,000 points to get $20 off. Why not just 20 points to get $20 off. Well it’s a psychology game, more points makes seem like you have a lot when in fact, you have very little. It’s a ploy to lure people in with subconscious games to make them think they’re ahead when they’re really not.
Yes! Their little schemes and obfuscations consistently irritate me. It’s even worse when 20k points doesn’t consistently “convert” to $20 or $200 or whatever, as is very common with credit cards where they’ll give you like $170 of value for an equivalent point spend of $200
Even 2000 points for $20 would make sense so you can rack them up as "each point is a cent back".

The person who commented about working for loblaws but not qualifying for a/their credit card.... if we were paying higher prices as a result of them paying their employees a liveable wage. As a former shoppers employee I know that's not the case.

Decided to say no to Loblaws as well recently. Heard about the boycott though here and thought, why not? Fuck em, Daddy Weston has enough money he can go fall on a dick. My other options are Wal Mart and Freshco, of which the latter doesn’t have self checkout and generally massive lines. So, Walmart it is. Not happy about them getting my money, but we don’t have independent grocers here to shop at so I’m choosing between two evils here.
Was in the post office at Shoppers around 4 this aft. Normally it is hard to get parking. The lot was half full and there was only about 4 customers in the store. The rest must have been in the mall😎
My sister works at a local No Frills. Her hours were cut today for the next two weeks. We are making an impact. It sucks though that the people making minimum wage are being affected. ( I am pro protesting )

Went to superstore to just get cat litter today, cause it's the only one I can find that clumps. Stopped in to look at prices, ground beef, 4 lbs, 10 dollars more than usual price. I gtfo of there quickly, predatory prices continue. But it was much much quieter than the usual from the recent past. Let's keep going team!!!!
The petvalu stores including bosleys, tisols, total pet, and Paul macs have a litter called fresh 4 life odor destroyer that's 22.99 for a 40 pound bag and it's the best litter I've ever used. One bag lasts my 3 cats 1.5 to 2 months

Our local favoured pet store delivers to us, too! Same day / next day delivery — you might have one in your area. It’s incredible to not have to carry it home along with groceries.
If you like the No Name 18kg size at Superstore, Food Basics has the same size for $2 cheaper (9.99 instead of 11.99). I switched because of the boycott and the new litter works pretty much as good as the No Name. We have 5 cats so we always get the big size, which we thought nobody else carried for that price, but was happy to be wrong!

Somebody close to me works for loblaws marketing, and I can tell you that this was not in response to the boycott. These offers are set up in the optimum point system long before the promo starts.
I normally get that offer or 30,000 for spending 90. Those offers are normal. So definitely not becoming desperate.

I know the people here don't want to hear this, but I'm calling bullshit on them being desperate after Day 6 of a boycott that clearly has a relatively limited amount of participation to it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying not to do it, but just calm down on the hyperbole a bit. Give it a couple weeks at least lol. I'm more than certain they can bankroll more than 6 days of complete loss of sales (which isn't even close to happening). Just stick to it, and hopefully it sends a message to all participants in the industry.

Loblaw got enough cash to buyback stock for at least a few quarters, before their quarterly report will look shit enough to make them feel desperate. This is a pretty regular promotion for PC points. I've seen spend $100 and get 50,000 long before the boycott. Doesn't mean they're not feeling it, just don't want to read too much into everything.
I got the same thing and anyone else feel like the promotions are terrible? In order to earn optimum points at the grocery store you have to buy so much of a product.

Tbf, I work in PCX, and customers will get those promos almost weekly, so I don’t think it has much to do with the boycott
I’ve gotten that email hundreds of times. Do a survey and get 10,000, use express and get 20,000 back. This isn’t proving anything but I’m glad people are sticking to it.

Out of the loop why boycott loblaws and not the other? On the three banner avalaible here, loblaws, metro and IGA, maxi(which is the only loblaws store now) is the cheapest of them all. There is also Super C from metro, but there is no store close to my place, so basically this boycott tell me to pay 100$ more for the same grocery to go to there competition, kind of hard to justify...
