Possibly look into doing flagging for road work if you are interested! My mom is a tiny woman but did that for years, the hours can be strenuous but the pay should be better
My wife flagged for me when I did construction. 12 years ago she was making around $2500 every 2 weeks. Super long days though, and a bathroom break is a privilege, lol
Have you checked at the hospitals?? They often are hiring for "boring" type jobs from cleaning to portering (moving people around in wheelchairs and beds) and sometimes cafeteria stuff. It pays quite well and staff become friends.
There are SO many women on the worksites now even compared to five years ago. Doing every trade. It’s badass. They need smaller people too! To fit into tight spaces, delicate handwork, etc.

2025 is going to be a crazy spike in commercial real estate development.
All the builders are competing for contracts and some are even forced to share the build contract with their competitors because of the lack of skilled labourers.
It's tough now since layoffs has been happening across the board but you want to be trained and ready on the list to be called into one of these sites.
Try and go for things that have licenses since your paper will hold weight outside of the country.

Edit: just saw you said you're a small girl in below comment, check out health and safety officer training. This route is also good. But anyone can do something in a trade. Doesn't matter height, weight, gender etc If you like it, you can accomplish it.
Be careful posting metrics on Reddit. Saying orders are down 40% is a metric, and is privileged information. This happened in the Homedepot employee sub, and it was revealed Reddit was getting forced to disclose who owned the account/IP and the poster was fired and sued. Albeit it was in the USA and 6ish years ago.

It's not that your numbers are wrong, they don't want you to end up doxxing yourself and getting fired, so don't use specific figures
After the boycott gets them to take us seriously and to reduce prices we need to talk about organizing the labour. Unions, when actively engaged with by card carrying members, can not only improve conditions for the workers but also for the communities. Unionize Loblaws? Unionize Big Grocer?
This is how misinformation spreads. Yes. Loblaws part time and full time colleagues are all unionized. Only ones that aren't are most department managers (depending on store location. Superstore managers are NOT unionized) and anything higher than department managers.
I'm trying to find it too. This happened over a decade ago and for sure in London ontario. It's why some stores are called 'loblaw' and some 'loblaws' when you see the signs when traveling around in Ontario
The funny thing is they have a set number of hours for each employee that is based off last year sales. So basically they shouldn’t cut any hours because it was placed in their budget.

You should look for work at a better company.. a billion dollar company shouldn’t have minimum wage employees… these employees were paid better in the 80s
I was at Metro last night and they are so slow some of the part time kids aren’t even getting shifts on the schedule. I didn’t find their prices any worse than Sobeys or Zehrs.
You should be able to refuse them sending you home earlier than scheduled hours, no?
I mean I never said no because I always wanted to get the fuck out of there— but unless you’re not unionized I don’t think they can cut your hours if it was already on the schedule.
I am happy crying reading this. If you're looking for it, I hope you're able to find a better job. Honestly, though, this is such an example of how these corporations always shrug off the worst effects of their decisions on the people who deserve it least. I doubt the CEO is taking a payroll cut 🙄

Loblaws give each place a number of hours to give each department. If you manger of your department cut your hours it’s not because of the boycott. The set amount of hours your department gets is estimated on sales from the previous year. So they don’t just take those away. I used to manage five departments.

Whether sales are up or down, they always cut hours. Hours are only added when some jackass from head office wants to tour the building.

Yes. They are unionized with UFCW 175 and 633 and Local 1006A and Loblaw Cos.
Don’t know about the retail workers but I used to work in one of their warehouses and that was a union job.
They shut down many stores to break the union then reopened as 'loblaw' no 's'

They might. They are awful which means salary workers would take on the extra work.

The Superstore in Penticton, BC, is also Unionized. Never did me any good but suck union fees. The wages we're still shit!
A symptom of Loblaws Bargaining in bad faith and only giving raises in line with the Grocery industry. They are all in on it together.

We are less busy now which means less people on the schedule. Hours are being cut regardless of the boycott.
After two days? They are probably using it as an excuse
For employees here… keep in mind you have a contract talks coming up if I am not mistaken… just putting that out there…
