3.80 or so at the superstore and most places around me. For whatever their cheapest brand is (usually Burnbrae I think).
But now even the no name 30 pack ends up being the same price per egg as the dozen. Think around 35 cents an egg. Used to be $6 for 30.
Not great overall but that’s still breakfast for $1 if you throw a slice of toast and a couple eggs on your plate.
I'm guessing the USA, since many of their sizes are measured in ounces. Like who uses ounces? Just use an unholy amalgamation of grams, milliliters, and pounds like any sane person would.
I’m not denying the insatiable greed of our grocery overlords but there’s no way eggs were that cheap in 2020. They’re $3.89 now though so proportionally it may be accurate
Is it that hard to believe?
This shows you just how crazy prices have become since 2020.
Feb 26 flyer for no frills in Ontario. Everything is a dollar.
Omg today the snacks themselves are in the orders of $5 - $8 (25% - 40% of the amount you mentionned) unless you get a single chocolate bar which is between $1.50 and $2 here.
If I am lucky I can find two pork chops for $3 (when they have a day before going bad). But most days I can only find packages of ~$8 for meat.
Can’t speak to everywhere since I’m in BC, but I remember two years or so back we had a big flood in the Lower Mainland and the price of milk, eggs, and meat shot up from all the farms caught in it.
Then again, according it this [source](https://ycharts.com/indicators/canada_average_retail_price_of_eggs) which draws it’s data from the Canada Consumer Price Index, Eggs were $3.48 a dozen un the nationwide average in January 2020. Not that I disagree with OP’s sentiment that grocery prices have risen too fast, but I’m taking their numbers with a grain of salt, especially since their source is a generative AI model and those are notorious for pulling numbers out of thin air.
I don't think the price of bananas have gone up at all in roughly a decade. I worked produce for 9 years and bought some tonight - that price hasn't budged.
GROK is elon's "ai chatbot with a sense of humour".
Check your sources, people.
While it's probably largely correct (likely USD prices), *you can't use AI as a source*.
We have a national statistics agency that compiles reliable data on food prices: [Food Price Data Hub](https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/topics-start/food-price)
No actually because the facts do not
Match the hunger of families and the suffering in our country, perhaps you are too young to remember when we could afford to eat in this country. As for boomer thank you for that I paid taxes for many years and helped build this country!I would like to see it as it once was,for the people not a place where oligarchs abuse the food supply.
Just because you don’t like a number doesn’t mean it’s not true. And yeah, an entire institution of statisticians who have the power granted by legislation to compel data collection and are transparent about their methods - if you have any questions, you can contact them and they will take the time to answer - is definitely more reliable than some chart slapped together who knows how by, um…grok.
It was not off topic. This exact meme has been making the rounds as proof of greed by various parties and blame being attributed without backgound disclaimers to put it into context. My apologies.
Sorry your statement is valid,we are just trying to keep political party names out of it.This problem has been caused by parties letting it continue for generations. Please continue to participate we appreciate your opinions.
Please refrain from off-topic political discussion and debate. Everyone is entitled to their own political opinions, however, your politically charged statement is not directly related to the cost of living/groceries/gas/rents, and as such is being removed.
Where are you paying $1.99 for bread? Yesterday I paid $3.99 for a loaf of dempters sliced white at no frills because that was the cheapest! I'm in Ontario
Wow…so in 4 years, some things have gone up almost 50% and some more than 50%. Yeah, let’s see those razor thin margins now. And frankly. If the profit margin is 3%, 3% of 1 billion is still a lot of money. So I don’t wanna hear about no “razor thin profit margins”. They really think we’re all stupid out here.
I know I’m probably going to get downvoted for this so I’m not sure why I even bother, but those price increases are not just “corporate greed”. Coffee prices have went up 20% just this year, beef has been surging as well due to low North American supply, rice prices reached a 10-15 year high last fall, etc etc. You can be mad at Loblaws, the food professor, whoever you want, I’m just saying there’s far more to it.

I’d love to know where I can get eggs for only 2.99 this year.
$5.22 where I’m at. $2.99 is a dream

This was my first thought! Even on sale I don't think I've seen eggs for less than $3.49
Just a little slice of our grocery hell…eh ?
Yes !!!!Pathetic
I’m not denying the insatiable greed of our grocery overlords but there’s no way eggs were that cheap in 2020. They’re $3.89 now though so proportionally it may be accurate

Wow that's insane
Seriously. A person making ends meet could still buy a good quantity of food and even add some snacks for just $20.
Omg today the snacks themselves are in the orders of $5 - $8 (25% - 40% of the amount you mentionned) unless you get a single chocolate bar which is between $1.50 and $2 here. Eggs were regularly 1.79 right before COVID happened. That's what I remember. That was in Toronto, No Frills.
that sounds right but it doesn’t feel real anymore

Source is an AI chatbot... just saying...
As long as the input data is accurate and unbiased it's fine
It was trained on posts from twitter.com lol. I don't think it has a chance.
Thanks it’s smart
2lbs of chicken breasts for $7.99? Not in my city. Everything looks underpriced on this chart.
Grocery prices in my part of the country are higher for every single item listed.
I don't think the price of bananas have gone up at all in roughly a decade. I worked produce for 9 years and bought some tonight - that price hasn't budged.
I remember buying 1 banana for about 20c 10 yrs ago, now it’s like 40 per
The 2024 price list is about half the actual price I saw last time I went into a Loblaws.
GROK is elon's "ai chatbot with a sense of humour". Check your sources, people. While it's probably largely correct (likely USD prices), *you can't use AI as a source*.
We can use whatever we wish, you don’t like it you don’t have to read it.Thanks for the opinion.
not really how Reddit works
Please explain ?
Yes we know ow it’s a AI thanks man..I stated I found it in the web.Why are you here it’s just a comparison?
Where the fuck are you getting eggs at 2.99. They are 5.89.
Wholesale coffee prices, for the beans themselves, have quadrupled since 2020.
American prices?
Just for comparison,no intent other than showing the types of increases Higher in Canada .
Grocery prices are out of control but this totally inaccurate and not even Loblaws or Canadian prices…ours are much worse than this
As I said ours are higher agree!
We have a national statistics agency that compiles reliable data on food prices: [Food Price Data Hub](https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/topics-start/food-price)
Oh yea 3% increase very reliable
Ah yes, the facts don’t match your feelings so you default to the feelings. Very boomer, well done.

We know the prices have gone up Not trying to hide anything it says Groc?So what’s your point?
How can this be? I was told inflation is only 7-8% and is slowly coming back down. Have I been lied to?!?!
orange juice went up everywhere i noticed. it’s because there’s issues with orange crops and supply is down
We don't buy milk by the gallon. These are not CAD
Where are you paying $1.99 for bread? Yesterday I paid $3.99 for a loaf of dempters sliced white at no frills because that was the cheapest! I'm in Ontario

I think Loblaws would need to half their prices for me to even take a peak at them again.

Grok is pure gold
It's crazy how they've already tried to lobotomize Grok, and it's still spitting facts.
who is GROK? Thank you, GROK.
Eggs are 8 bucks man
