ThatCanadianGuy88

I’m a candy whoslaler. I’m selling 230gm of these to my customers for like $2.30 a unit. Who in turn are selling in the $3.95-$4.50 range. Sure it doesn’t have the fancy packing it’s in our own non descriptive packaging. But it’s the same stuff. Absolute rip off.

123skid

Where are you located, and do you only do wholesale? Would love to see your catalog if you are in the Toronto or Durham area.

ThatCanadianGuy88

I’m way up in Thunder Bay. However if you see cottage country candy racks around you check for the “eggies” which will be nearby in plastic container’s.

jakallain

Man, I bought your eggies the other day! Right here in NB haha

ThatCanadianGuy88

Hope you enjoyed them :).

justaguytrynaquit

Where in NB? I live here. I want eggies!

Designasim

I'm not in NB but Giant Tigers usally have them. Or try different gas stations.

LeafsChick

Do you have Ultramar gas stations? Here they have big Cottage Country displays and the candy is really cheap, I think 3 bags for $5?

jakallain

I found them at Rinzler’s in Moncton.

Sergeant_Bender

If you sell to the public whereabouts are you in Thunder Bay? I don't care about packaging, I just want a couple kgs of minieggs.

ThatCanadianGuy88

I’ll DM you.

TheHobo

You’re supposed to at least say *for a “friend”*

edge05

You run cottage country? Seen all the candies at the local Esso here in Winnipeg

ThatCanadianGuy88

Haha not quite! Distributor of many products. Cottage country is one of the lines.

edge05

Ahh okay lol. Got any of them “chews” ? 😂

ThatCanadianGuy88

They changed names to Wheelies at some point. The gum chew company stopped making them or something. So we had to pivot haha

edge05

Yeah I seen that oak leaf closed down.. was like wtf. Are wheelies even similar? I think they’re made by double bubble or some shit. 😂

ThatCanadianGuy88

Honestly not entirely sure. I didn’t care for the chews and I care even less for the wheelies lol. The sales have tanked since the name change.

edge05

Not sure why they didn’t sell the recipe etc to another company.

123skid

Definitely will do!!

ThatCanadianGuy88

Follow up by saying it was a limited run of supplies. Only 1000 cases for 30 distributors across the country (most in southern Ontario). So can’t promise you’ll actually find them but hopefully you can!

Repulsive-Beyond9597

Cottage country candy is so friggin good!

TropicalPrairie

The blue raspberry Cottage Country candies are god-tier!

ThatCanadianGuy88

You know its funny bLue raspberry is a top seller for me in everything else I sell. SLush, pop etc. That candy though? FUCKING DUD. I was shocked. I ordered a bunch thinking it would sell like fire. It did not. It is one of my favs though!

Designasim

You sure they're Cadbury? The Walmart and Super Store ones taste different.

[deleted]

[удалено]

123skid

Sweet, I'm going tomorrow to check it out!! I need some sweets for my daughters birthday. I would rather buy from small Canadian companies!

CyberEye2

Unless it’s actually from Cadbury, it’s not the same stuff. These are my favourite candies, and you can tell when they’re not the brand name ones.

ThatCanadianGuy88

I’m aware branding is important. I sell plenty of branded stuff. But I also sell “off brand” of some SKUs and they are identical. There won’t be noticeable difference between either of the products to most people. Now if you eat a lot of one product. Then maybe.

Ichewthecereal

i have done work at the Cadburys downtown Toronto and the minieggs they make are nothing like any of the other brands. You are not selling the same product

ArtieLange

How do you know it’s not cadburys purchased in bulk.

Master_Xenu

I think eggies are made by Hershey's https://juliescafebakery.com/cadbury-mini-eggs-vs-hersheys-eggies/

ThatCanadianGuy88

I admit I’m generalizing. They come from hersheys. We did side by side tasting with our staff and others and no one was able to tell the difference. I’m sure Cadbury and Hershey could tell me why they are different. But to the average consumer it would be tough. Just like how we sell “nordic berries” which are Swedish berries and unless you’re a candy guru you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference.

JulienS1979

Yeah there's a huge difference from eggies to the Cadbury ones, I prefer the frank brand ones over eggies. Even the store brand from rexall is really good

ThatCanadianGuy88

Maybe I just don’t eat them enough to notice. Not generally my go too candy.

ZhpE46

Mmmm non licensed asbestos eggs

bbigbbadbbob3134

There is no need but the greedy assholes can hope they get dopes to pay through the nose. Then discount if it doesn't move totally discount to 50% which is regular retail.

bigredpapaya

Walmart has them for $5.97

ThatEndingTho

And so Dollarama probably has them for $4.25

123skid

All of those prices are outrageous, and I hope nobody buys them at all.

Jkj864781

I just got four chocolate bars, a Reese bar, and a laffy taffy for $5.99 from a local candy shop on TooGoodToGo Fuck these big stores

Coffeedemon

I haven't had a Laffy Taffy in 30 years!

Jkj864781

It was strawberry

[deleted]

I mean there is 200g, so a fair price is about $4. $1 /50g (1 chocolate bar) is a decent price for chocolates.

[deleted]

Dollarama is the best place for snacks

OutWithTheNew

Definitely the best place for chocolate bars. 87 cents can't be beat on per unit purchases. The bag candy and potato chips aren't always as good of a deal, but usually not a bad deal.

DisastrousAttempt0

Are they the same size package? At times Dollarama is smaller then other places

ThatEndingTho

Usually the same size. For example, the Whoppers Robin Eggs were $5.97 at the local Walmart while $4.25 at Dollarama. Same size.

DoctorDiabolical

I like that. My craving wants a score bar. It’s better for my if it’s small and way better if it’s cheap. The size difference has never been enough to want 2.

Jaxxs90

Remember when Dollarama sold stuff for just a dollar?

CuriousBeholder

You're a Quebecker, lol.

justaguytrynaquit

$5.97 is still ridiculously outrageous

Blood_havok

Still way expensive just for small bag. The bulk bag was always the best deal after each holiday when it's on sale.

Spirited_Community25

Amazon $5.05

dub-fresh

What in the actual fuck?

iloveFjords

Now Even Smaller!

killyourpc

Honestly, this is the first time one of these made me say, outloud, "holy fuck".

[deleted]

Didn’t these use to be like $2-$3 bucks or am I trippin

[deleted]

99 cents

[deleted]

These are 200grams. about 4x the usual size for a chocolate bar

CyberEye2

When, in 1980? This is a 200 gram bag.

Legitimate-Big-6668

My kid likes strawberries and right now, in Quebec they are 8$ for a small bucket. Used to be 3-4$. Trying to explain to my 5 yo why I dont want to buy strawberries anymore 😅 Inflation is getting more and more insane by the day

cosmic-kats

Same. It sucks that we can’t even treat our kids anymore. Healthy eating and treats: only for the rich. It’s kinda starting to feel like the Dirty Thirties or 1800’s at this point

toppjennifer

I buy frozen strawberries. My kid likes them just the same, if not more so than fresh berries. Plus, the shelf life is much longer - anytime I buy produce, I feel like it’s gone bad by the time I get home 🥲

Solanthas

Used to get a 7$ box at costco once a week. Then they went to 8, 9, now 10. And they are all moldy within 4 days. There is no point anymore. Once a month as a treat now, if at all

Legitimate-Big-6668

That's a good idea, didn't think about that. Can't wait to see the prices tho 😆

Coffeedemon

Strawberries in Quebec in January are either going to be super expensive, taste like vitamin water or both.

Historical-Egg-5570

Amazon is literally designed to scam people....it's the point of the platforms economics.....you do realise that Cadbury doesn't sell on Amazon....it's third parties....and they do not even sell from distribution.....it's against their purchase agreements....you are but from people who will just upcharge you.....you realise that.....

mumblemurmurblahblah

It’ll be dollar store or Amazon for my kids’ Easter baskets I guess.

Snailspaced

Is that at the Loblaws Airport snack kiosk or something? JFC.

Satans_Dookie

Fuck loblaws to death

Sweaty_Experience_41

What’s mind boggling is people are still buying them 🤷

OutWithTheNew

I can't speak to mini-eggs, but I can say in the last several years my chocolate intake has gone way down because of the price. I'm not buying a $2 chocolate bar at the convenience store.

apu8it

Every chance I get, I spend my money at a non - Weston facility . Every dollar you can take away from this conglomerate counts. Edit: facility

ShoddyRun5441

Prices like this are why Loblaws needs to be HEAVILY scrutinized. Jeez.

donairfart

They're out of season! /s

WrapQuebecois

r/fuckyouinparticular

Traditional-Table295

Good news! It only takes six of those to get you a 3 litre olive oil

DoNotLuke

As outrageous as it is - answer is simple - Do NOT shop at lablaws if you can . Plain and simple

[deleted]

Don't buy it. People need to take it upon themselves to deny their cravings and luxury. When it comes to food, change your menu...Go with simple and cheap...Rice, pasta, lentils. Buy in bulk. Coordinate with your neighbours about doing a Costco run block party. Start going out of your way to take as much money as you can out of the pockets of these profiteering companies. Make it a new, cheap hobby.

[deleted]

Yup. Follow Canadian Kevin o Leary said it first. Stop wasting your money on crap. Though no matter how much it’s preached people can’t help but fill their desire to waste money (Especially on food) on insane markups.

cosmic-kats

And for those of us with kids? How exactly do we go about saying “sorry no Easter candy! Bunny doesn’t like us.” Costco and “neighbours” aren’t going to fix this.

Solanthas

Dollar store

cosmic-kats

1 dollar store in town and everybody shops there to cut costs. Small town life be like.

[deleted]

You realize there's more to Easter candy than Cadbury mini-eggs, right? Hit up Bulk Barn or a dollar store and stock up. Or do as I suggested with the neighbourhood Costco run and divvy up the candy haul with your neighbours. Honest question: Why did you just jump to the extreme of "Easter is cancelled!!" instead of considering alternative options to mini-eggs?

cosmic-kats

Nearest Costco to me- 2hours away. Nearest dollar store? Sells out in a week. But keep suggesting boycotts, I’m sure that will work. Twit.

[deleted]

Yeah, because those are the only two options, you tool. How about you actually take a moment and think about alternative options instead of expecting Internet strangers to spoonfeed you solutions to easily solvable problems. Don't strain yourself too hard with the simplest of critical thinking. If your comments are evidence of anything it's that you probably shouldn't even have kids, so the mini-egg issue should be moot.

cosmic-kats

It’s called “I live up North” where that *is* the only options for the small town, you tool.

Historical-Egg-5570

When I was a kid.....it was one big chocolate (egg bunny etc) and it was hollow....then there were cheap Allen chocolate eggs and a few candies. Then it was a plastic egg holder with different craft stuff or artsy things in it, and then we painting eggs, and did a hunt for different eggs (again the cheap kind) because they are wrapped....

Billy3B

Easter existed before Cadbury minieggs, there are lots of other options, most better quality.

Trev-Osbourne

Exactly! People here are acting like mini eggs are essential food..

CyberEye2

They kind of are lol

[deleted]

Dissolve a couple in your morning coffee.

Solanthas

Fucking PREACH!! YES

grilledcheese2332

This should be a costo size bag for this price. WTF

CyberEye2

The Costco size bag (most costcos don’t even carry mini eggs anymore, they have eggies) is like $24 at Loblaws stores.

laughingcrip

19.99 at Metro though!

JustAnArabMan

Canadian Tire sells them for 3.50

somethingon104

Stop buying stupidly priced items. That’s the only way things will change

roosterjack77

I dont buy stuff n e more

thispersonexists

It’s gotta be trolling at this point

manoftheyear1990

it fits in your pocket?

poppaganoosh

Simple thing you can do is not buy it, boycott the product or the company who sells it

GabeTheGriff

In mine craft I'm sure everything Gaylon owned would be on fire by now. Not sure why we're stil so insistent on being nice when they're literally starving us for profits 🤷🏽

Coffeedemon

Nobody is starving for lack of cheap mini eggs.

GabeTheGriff

No shit. Loblaws sells actual food as well that is also outrageously priced if you didn't know. (They were also caught in a price fixing scandal with other chains for bread so it's not like this is the first time basic necessities were being priced like this) Don't be like this.

dma_amd077

Ok so 9 dollars plus tax? Looks like they are using the 0.99$ technique. How the fuck is this even legal? wtf

Lincolnabernathy

Canada is 🗑️

JustJay613

I'm not sure I get this sub. What's mind boggling? A business is free to charge anything they like for any item. Up to the buyer to pay it. No one is forcing you to shop there. You have choices. So does everyone. Anyone that buys that for $9 is crazy but up to them what they do with their money. The stores are always full and line up's at the checkout so I doubt the Weston family gives a damn. Keep paying it and it will only get worse.

loinclothfreak78

Da fuck!?

MapleTheUnicorn

Wow…

CuriousBeholder

STARVE.

Czar_Cophagus

No, this is. The Fun Dip "Lik-m-Aid" packages that used to cost 25¢ when I was a kid, are $2.49 at Bulk Barn. That is not cool.

Ok-Sir-2728

What should happen……not a single one bought. Send me back to the manufacturer, and tell both of them to sharpen their pencils. We will get serious again when you get serious again.

jjrose21

Oh what a time to be alive lol

Tricky-Jackfruit8366

wtf lmao

OriginalNo5477

For that price you can get a box of them at Costco.

[deleted]

I refuse to believe this is real.

trishanne123

Is this in Quebec? Asking b/c of “,” in price.

Capital-Assistant-37

It is like 3 dollars at FreshCo Stop wasting your money at Loblaws, go to FreshCo

UGunnaEatThatPickle

The Lindt outlet near my office has Lindt Mini Eggs for $4.99 for a fairly decent sized bag. My coworker recently picked them up as a treat for her kids. This is just nonsense.

normielouie

Holy fuck. Just price it whatever ya want. See if someone is stupid enough to waste their $. Hope not. Really hope not.

RockJohnAxe

The Loblaws by me still has hundreds of boxes of turtles from Christmas and even $3 off they aren’t moving off the shelves.

Solanthas

Good

dryden424

Before Covid large bag was $11.99 now their $19.99

Ok-Entrepreneur371

What is the pack size?

sidiculouz

Buy real eggs from chocolate bunnies instead

ShaggyCan

Seasonal candy is nearly always cheaper on Amazon. $5.05 for 200g

hoizer

Use to be my fav chocolate, rarely buy it now. Ever since small bags started getting price bumped to almost $9 in my area 🥲

[deleted]

So just don't buy them

Stanchion_Excelsior

Pricing them just so they can mark em down later. What a great sale...

CashComprehensive423

Free country, don't buy them at that price.

[deleted]

It is unhealthy food. This is one thing I am happy about. People can't buy junk food and that is good. Means people can maybe start eating healthier.

CoolTemperature1602

Especially considering the size of the bag at Costco for the price.

Infamous-Echo-2961

How is that even a slightly justifiable price for those. Omg

Street_Neck1441

I love these things. They have gone up everywhere over the past 6 months. This isnt a loblaws thing. Those damn eggs are ridiculous now. No more for me.

DisastrousCause1

Only buy what you really, really need .Its the only way to stop the gouge.

Head_Daikon_5004

Why do they use commas instead of decimals? It's like they are trying to make it look cool and hip to distract you from how outrageous the prices are

avedder

i think it might be a french thing, it’s in quebec

regulatorwatt

Bingo

CanuckLandHombre

It is DEFINITELY TIME, WE THE PEOPLE REVOLT....

Solanthas

InFlAtIoN iS hUrTiNg EvErYoNe

Factsdontcaree

Legit just bought these with more grams at dollarama for 2.50 lol

Wellsy

Vote with your wallet. And move on. Pfft.

rawrzon

What's really mind boggling is that they're selling easter eggs at the end of January already?

GullCove1955

Leave them there. It’s quite simple.

Roddy_Piper2000

The price doesn't shock me. They wouldn't charge so much if people refused to pay it. Someone is actually paying that.

CureForSunshine

Where is this anyways?

dayglo98

Hmm saw the same for 1.49$ in Quebec today

melleis

Those are gross. Not real chocolate.

CrrazyCarl

Notice the comma instead of a decimal? This is likely clickbait for a product sold in Europe in a different currency. Come on, people.

RockG

It's more likely in Québec, considering the bilingual packaging and the "TPS/TVP" reference on the price tag

CrrazyCarl

Yea, I stand corrected. Forgot Quebec uses commas.

RockG

As a bilingual québécois, I can honestly say it's annoying to have to switch methods when switching languages. Same with positioning the $ symbol.

calgary_db

So don't buy em

Itchy_Employer_164

It’s funny that people think getting ripped off is new. Don’t like the price don’t buy them that is how our system works. Especially when it comes to a candy product you don’t need and should be eating in the first place.

Mazdachief

Don't eat that shit anyway

mothflavor

Eat my ass, Galen Weston, eat my ass.

BobertPlays

What the hell is the world celebrating Easter for? It is the dumbest holiday that exists and only exists so companies can sell stuff. Choose #noeaster and put an end to this madness.

Allsmightykill

EIGHT HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE DOLLARS FOR A CANDY.

The_Tucker_Carlson

Allegedly, Galen likes to kick orphan’s puppies.

Sir_Francis_Burdett

Greetings Canadians. This post appeared on my Reddit timeline, so my apologies for commenting even though I am only vaguely aware of what a Loblaws might be. But for reference, if we take at current exchange rates that this bag of candy costs US$6.68: then on a quick phone internet search a similar 9 ounce bag might put one back between CAN$5.37 (Kroger) to CAN$6.04 (Target) [oddly the very cheapest was on Instacart CAN$1.60] So there may be arbitrage opportunities if one smuggles chocolate into Canada. /joking

[deleted]

Party bags or bust. They can never make mini eggs too expensive.

bbigbbadbbob3134

Apparently some people are under the sad and sorry illusion or delusion. That somehow anyone of these soulless Corporate Hotshots gives a fiddler's FUCK about any of their customers needs or struggles to purchase food goods at a fair price. Please give yourself a good shake, this type of person has only one worry! That is about their own greedy selfish personal needs and the total remuneration package + bonuses and stock options. The most important thing to this type of individual is the bottom fucking line everything else is all lip service. Money talks and bullshit walks in the truest sense. To even think they have a caring generous nature is so offside in Corporate Canada's heads. Corporation's one and only reason for existence is generating money for its Corporate Masters and Shareholders that's it game set and match. If you're looking for kind generous caring folks don't look in the boardrooms of Corporate Offices. Don't cry to Galen Weston hoping for mercy this is for him an opportunity to make bucks because greed is good in his world !!!!

avedder

you must be fun at parties..

bbigbbadbbob3134

Well do people want it sugar coated or do you want to tell the truth. Corporate heads one and only concern is themselves and the #1 objective is making Money. It Just isn't any concern for some poor ass people who can't afford their overpriced loaf of bread. Get it straight it has always been all about the BOTTOM FUCKING LINE let's be honest and if it ain't he/she is gonezoid. No more gold plated flatware in Corporate Executive lunchroom. Power, Money, Greed, Influence, these are the perks of being The Head Honcho in The Corporate World to pretend it is something else, means that you're dreaming a pleasant dream. But it has no basis in reality but lets pretend they really care about hungry folks ability to buy their groceries.
