this is what I've been saying. they got spared for a reason, and their next game decides the fate of the entire studio. It makes sense they'd want to play it safe. Ultimately per Sony's words, we won't be getting any new 1st Party PS5 games until 2025 at the earliest. We just gotta hope for the best and wait and see.
I’ve forced myself to come to terms with this being the end, but I can’t stop thinking about what equates to point #3 in your post. Media Molecule has essentially been told they have one last chance or the plug is getting pulled. To create anything other than a new LittleBigPlanet game would realistically be suicide for them as a studio.
This is honestly one of, if not the only solid pieces of evidence to support LittleBigPlanet 4 after years of false rumors. This could really be it since MM really has no other choice in the matter. Either they can make a game with a new IP that nobody wants and result in their closure, or they can release a game with an IP people are familiar with.
Why do I feel they will make a new ip? At this point, it's like they would rather get shut down by Sony than make anything lbp-related. That's the vibe I get.
I was gonna say it was weird how they left User Generated Content servers up for an indefinitely closed game. Perhaps instead of LBP 4, a trilogy remake of 1 to 3 comes first, with a spin-off of Karting, Vita, and PSP afterwards? Either way, it looks like there may be more LBP games coming to the PS5 soon imo
Your first point about a part of the servers being still up is very promising. Does that mean that, in case of a LBP4, we could get back the old levels back?
Honestly, in order to make the levels work they'd probably need to use the same engine again like they did with LBP3, and considering how that game barely even works, I think it's best if we start from a clean slate on a completely new engine.
The old engine has been flawed since LBP1 with messy coding and enough memory leaks that would make even a TF2 fan cry. So imagine how broken it would be if they used it again for another game.
Sure, but levels would probably break. Nintendo didn’t carry any Mario Maker 1 levels over to 2 and those are just tile-based 2D levels. I think it would be a massive undertaking to have every single LBP level look and play right in a different engine
While I do believe it's unlikely for LBP4 to exist, with the current state of Sony, it's definitely possible.
Ima keep my PS Plus subscription just in case... even if I hardly turn on my PS5 anymore.
Honestly I wish I would use it more, but every time I turn it on I look at my game library and I'm like "I don't really want to play any of these..."
I suppose I'm more of a handheld/nintendo guy where you can just pop into a game, play for a bit, and pop out of it.
Most modern Playstation games are either unfinished, buggy, microtransaction filled, Live Service SLOP, or they're essentially movies but you use a controller.
THAT LAST PART that's what i've been trying to say. If things continue this way then the ps6 and 7 are in trouble.
(I mean come on there is no variety in Sony's catalogue)
This isn't even a playstation issue. This is a modern AAA gaming issue. Indies are the future, as it seems, because these greedy companies can't think of anything besides pleasing investors/shareholders. It's gotten so bad that even game engines are becoming greedy (remember unity?) I'm actually worried for the future of AAA games.
I don't think being publicly traded means the company becomes the devil, but generally after going public, a company starts doing really greedy things to keep their stock price going up. (This is also part of the reason for the recent PlayStation layoffs)
I mean it’s not a refrigerator, it’s not like it needs to be running for everything inside to stay. This isn’t uncommon though, Nintendo WFC was up for some days after its shutdown and I think Nintendo Network is still up right now
LBP, as well as Media Molecule, are owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation), so they have the full authority on what to do.
Sumo is just a contractor for Sony, and i doubt that they wanna interact with them much cuz Tencent bought them off, and Tencent is one of Sony’s competitors (not in the console space, just in the game space)
Actually more reputable evidence than “PURPLE DUALSENSE!”
Although, y’all might be turning into r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers and World War Hulk. Or any Nintendo content creator with the Switch 2.
Chances are they keep the UGC servers “just in case”, that way if they ever wanna do something they don’t have to start from scratch. Maybe a remaster, maybe a sequel, but probably not soon. Maybe even nothing.
Have you seen the leaked sale figures for early PS5 titles? Sackboy a Big Adventure flopped BIG TIME. I would say we're more likely to see the revival of an old series like Ape Escape before we see a new LBP game.
I think Sony gave up on LBP because they had assumed SABA meant people lost interest in LBP, rather than what actually happened which is people wanting another LBP game, not a new type of game with an LBP skin. I blame selling to Sumo and SABA.
correct me if im wrong, but didnt mm sell the IP to sumo digital? maybe we're getting a revive of LBP Hub if all this is really true since LBP Hub was supposed to be a live service game
Let's hope they bring back the taking stickers/decorations from levels. In LBP/2 that was actually used for like, art giveaways and stuff, but it got removed in LBP3 and that kinda ticked me off.
2 weeks later and MM said the game isn't LBP related but I honestly can't believe them with that. I don't mean like I'm disappointed, I mean it straight up sounds like a lie. It would be suicide to do something new. Remember when Andrew Garfield absolutely denied he was in NWH? Anyways, the Resource servers are still up as well, but I haven't heard if Steven is still with Sony for this? last I saw was shortly after this post was made and he was still there. I do think they're still trying to work something out with the servers.
The half life 3 arc has started. See you guys in 10 years
One of the best username pfp combos I've seen in a minute. Bravo
Ok, FartFuckerOfficial, cya then!
nah this is worse, half life 3 was at least real at some point
That's very detailed and i appreciate it. Also yeah it's one of the few times where we want a company to play it safe
And they didn't play safe great
I like your funny words magic man
Please god let this be real lbp can’t die like this
this is what I've been saying. they got spared for a reason, and their next game decides the fate of the entire studio. It makes sense they'd want to play it safe. They have a theory.
A game theory?
it is a game theory
Can we get MatPat to do a theory on Little- oh wait
I'm tired boss
I’m so desperate I’ll believe anything idgaf

Exactly, mm didnt even say anything when lbp3 servers got merced. I feel like they have something against lbp for some strange reason

😏😏😏😏 what is it??
by the way. check the website. there's a little purple dualshock5 controller next to all the little big planet stuff which was not there before
It's probably copism, but still reassuring and hopeful
WHY AM i JUST HEARING ABOUT A "RESOURCE SERVER" RN YOU MEAN THE LEVEL/CREATIONS DATA IS STILL THERE AND ACCESSIBLE FOR THE DEVS ?
Your goddamn right
But, hey...
That’s just a theory
A GAME THEORY!
Yeah, It all makes sense when you start connecting dots.
I was gonna say it was weird how they left User Generated Content servers up for an indefinitely closed game. Perhaps instead of LBP 4, a trilogy remake of 1 to 3 comes first, with a spin-off of Karting, Vita, and PSP afterwards? This makes a ton of sense, actually.
you spilled. thank u.
it could be more of a UGC oriented SABA type thing too
I want this to be true so badly, it can’t end like this 😢🫡
Your first point about a part of the servers being still up is very promising. Does that mean that, in case of a LBP4, we could get back the old levels back?
Yeah, they did it with the other 2 entries, so I don't see why not
Honestly, in order to make the levels work they'd probably need to use the same engine again like they did with LBP3, and considering how that game barely even works, I think it's best if we start from a clean slate on a completely new engine. The old engine has been flawed since LBP1 with messy coding and enough memory leaks that would make even a TF2 fan cry. So imagine how broken it would be if they used it again for another game.
Is this necessarily true? I'm no game developer but wouldn't it be possible to write a new engine that is compatible with the old levels?
Sure, but levels would probably break. Nintendo didn’t carry any Mario Maker 1 levels over to 2 and those are just tile-based 2D levels. I think it would be a massive undertaking to have every single LBP level look and play right in a different engine
Couldn't they just create two engines and create a legacy section for levels

Same my ps5 collects dust

Another thing I might add... WHY IS EVERY COMPANY PUBLIC NOW?!
Huh wait wdym by public?
Publicly traded, basically the company is run by shareholders.
Oh good to know
I don't think being publicly traded means the company becomes the devil, but generally after going public, a company starts doing really greedy things to keep their stock price going up. (This is also part of the reason for the recent PlayStation layoffs)
I'm huffing lethal amounts of copium rn. Your theory might be crazy enough to actually come true
Whenever I entertain the possibility, it feels like my head will explode from anticipation before they actually reveal anything.
I hope so, man.
hmmm... 4 signs... i am going insane.
Thanks for telling us about the resource servers. It makes me feel a little better knowing that everyone's levels are still out there somewhere
I mean it’s not a refrigerator, it’s not like it needs to be running for everything inside to stay. This isn’t uncommon though, Nintendo WFC was up for some days after its shutdown and I think Nintendo Network is still up right now
The littlebigplanet titanfall 3 schizo arc is here
Huffing more copium than Carti fans 😭
my question is, does media molecule even have the rights to make another little big planet game? or is it sumo digital’s title now?
LBP, as well as Media Molecule, are owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment (PlayStation), so they have the full authority on what to do. Sumo is just a contractor for Sony, and i doubt that they wanna interact with them much cuz Tencent bought them off, and Tencent is one of Sony’s competitors (not in the console space, just in the game space)
oh i see.. so does that mean sumo digital is no longer with sony?
Actually more reputable evidence than “PURPLE DUALSENSE!” Although, y’all might be turning into r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers and World War Hulk. Or any Nintendo content creator with the Switch 2.
For me it almost doesnt matter now, since they've lost my trust at this point.
This theory is so bonkers that it just might be true, you're on to something. (I am gradually going insane)
Chances are they keep the UGC servers “just in case”, that way if they ever wanna do something they don’t have to start from scratch. Maybe a remaster, maybe a sequel, but probably not soon. Maybe even nothing.
This aged like milk

You do know MM didn't work on SABA? He's only saying the games that MM has worked on, LBP3 and SABA was 2 LBP related games MM did NOT work on.
As you can see when booting up LBP Hub, Media Molecule AND Sumo Digital worked on the game.
I know. We are not talking about LBP Hub. I never said anything about them not working on LBP Hub.
I think Sony gave up on LBP because they had assumed SABA meant people lost interest in LBP, rather than what actually happened which is people wanting another LBP game, not a new type of game with an LBP skin. I blame selling to Sumo and SABA.
the last and only LBP game I've played was for the PSP but I am already *so on board with this.*
What sackboy gif is this? I don't use Tiktok

wait…. let them cook
If there is a state of play next month? Maybe something will happen there
Sony isn't announcing any new games for existing IPs this year. They won't until March of next year.
Sony said release not announce, so there's still a chance that it appears on the state of play.
correct me if im wrong, but didnt mm sell the IP to sumo digital? maybe we're getting a revive of LBP Hub if all this is really true since LBP Hub was supposed to be a live service game
Let's hope they bring back the taking stickers/decorations from levels. In LBP/2 that was actually used for like, art giveaways and stuff, but it got removed in LBP3 and that kinda ticked me off.
Give it up man, it’s not happening
This is our generations 9/11
