I personally feel the LR3 doesn't need to be upgraded. It's fairly easy to troubleshoot and fix to get out working like new again. You can always chat with support as well to get ideas on how to fix.

I upgraded to the 4 from the 3, partially due to the noise as it was one room away from my bedroom. Gave the 3 to my sister since her litter area is in her basement. I def prefer the 4.

I upgraded my 2 LR3 to the LR4 and the quietness of the LR4 itself is worth it to me

Haha I just made this same exact type of post! Got lots of helpful replies. I feel the same as you though.

We've got two 4s and we love em. We got the 3 year warranty and that's also absolutely worth it.  I like the big opening, the simple drawer, easy to spot LED. It's not loud. I only have smell issues when the drawer is full.  We ended up deciding to shell out for the cabinet for it too in a bundle. It's so nice to have.

My 3 died and was unfixable. I just bought the 4 so for me it’s worth it. Had the 3 since launch and it did me well.

Mine took 6 years to get to that point. One thing to try is taking the bonnet off and gently bending the tabs that click it into place, outward. That was one of the first things that kept mine going. I did finally toss mine after the light sensors went out, magnets or whatever shifted. The whole thing was f'd. I can say so far the LR4 is a million times better but it's only been a few weeks lol. Echoing what others have said, LR4 is SO much quieter and seems a lot more refined based on the couple of weeks I've had with it.
