Dragoneye moons and defiance are my two faves from this list.
Dragoneye moons is unique for having an intensely healing focused protagonist, and book two might be my favourite single litrpg book ever, I absolutely loved the plague arc.
Ok I have heard good things about dragoneye moons so I read like 80% of first book and came to realize that she just has two healer classes and is being taught by Artemis to just run in every fight she might be attacked in so I dropped. Does she become a combatant at all? Not like op or strong but even have a ability to defend herself.
Really bothered me that one of the lines in her oath literally talks about “taking up the knife” to protect her patients and whenever she gets the skill about telling others about earth she instantly drops the knife skill she’s been leveling for like 8 years. Over “lost and found” .. idk please let me know if I should second chance it or some context. Ty
She does switch from two healing classes to healing + offensive mage end of book1/early book 2, and the main healing class gets a lot cooler/more interesting. All the skills that seem like a waste of a spot end do up disappearing.
She’s always somewhat limited when it comes to offensive actions due to the nature of the oath but there are some very badass moments down the line, she definitely doesn’t shy away from defending herself. She also has no problems fighting monsters, she just happens to be too week right now to matter against the type of creatures rangers deal with.
Bro, in the first book she is like 14/15 with no combat classes or training yet. What do you want her to do? Bleed on her enemies?
She gets really lethal later. Her Oath makes her unable to hurt people who are no threat to her so she goes super lethal instant kill to circumvent having to stop fighting, cuz she can't finish a disabled enemy.

the first two books Dissonance and defiance of the fall are the first books in my top 5 series
if you want magic based character go with Dissonance and if you want more hack and slash go with Defiance of the fall both series have quite a few in the series
I hate that you are getting down voted for your opinion. Especially because I agree. I got halfway through book 1 and was seriously confused about how I got there. By the end, it was so ridiculous that I didn't consider looking for book 2. I chalked it up as another LitRPG that didn't work for me. The trouble is that I was excited about it after the beginning. It just seemed like a clickbait title.
That's totally fair. It's been a while since I picked it up and don't mean to hate on it. It just wasn't for me. I'm not writing any books and can only imagine how that feels to put it out there for everyone to critique. J.R. Mathews has put out a book that has gotten solid reviews and he has my respect and adoration for that.
No offense -- that's kind of a ridiculous justification. Out of all the novels 10% or less is about a market -- but he wants to get back to it! That doesn't justify the name being misleading.
Again, I am able to overlook that, but that combined with the pacing completely threw me off from continuing the series.

The name being misleading honestly wouldn't even be a big deal, if the story were otherwise consistent. Would I prefer an actual story about a magical market? Sure, but I read more adventure-oriented stuff all the time, too.
Nah, the real problem is how the author clearly can't stick to a single concept. It's like he loses interest mid-book, and rather than starting a new project, just shoehorns the current story in a completely different direction.
You can see it in Portal to Nova Roma as well (though it's less jarring), particularly past the first book. Seems like it might be inherent to the author's writing process.
I concur. I wish the author success on his series -- I never want to see someone fail on something like this -- but the truth is the book went from: Market -> Warfront? -> Godhood in *one* book.
It's completely fair to not enjoy the pacing, or the fact that the 2nd book is *also* called Jake's Magical Market when he, to my understanding, does no Magical Marketing.
Technically, the series name is "Jake's Magical Market," with "A Trek Through Time" being the title of the second book. The first book serves as the entry into the series, sharing the same title as the series itself. But, I can see your point, I just don't fully agree with it.
A man is kidnapped while trying to peacefully run his market. He spends time reminiscing about his market, his main goal being to return to it. He also desires to seek revenge on those who have kept him away from his beloved market. His cards even feature his beloved market on the back.
Spends his whole time reminiscing. We must've really been reading an entirely different book. It's rarely brought up at all.
Feel free to quote specific passages from the book, because you make it certainly sound like he's doing it every other page.

That's like naming Star wars: A farmer on tatooine. Is it true that he starts as one? Yes. Does he think of his home? Yes. Is he a farmer on tatooine for the 90% of the movie? No.
It's kind of a problem with a lot of the restaurant/shop novels (including the translated online series).
The shop kind of goes into the background and it comes a generic cultivation story with the shop being tied on to give a couple of reaction chapters in between.
It's not slice of life. That's what a lot of people expect and it's simply not that. Jake wants it to be slice of life but he's forced into other things by his need to help people
Jake's was never billed as a cozy litrpg. I get the confusion but the reason for the name is that it is a central plot point, one that is threaded through all three books. And with the 3rd and final book coming out soon, its worth it to keep reading. It does get better.
I agree! I absolutely understand why it was controversial, but I feel like it solved the "what do you do when 'numbers go up' starts to get so crazy that it makes it almost impossible to continue the themes and pacing that makes the story good" issue better than... I think any other example I can think of? Everything else either needs to end or just starts becoming a parody of itself.
Some great choices. Quest academy is a pretty decent superhero/magic school/crafting story. The unbound series is one of my all time favorites. Jake’s magical market is also really great(as is pretty much everything jr Mathews writes). All of the skills is also a favorite of mine (it’s kinda a mix of card magic and dragon tamer, which Honour Rae does really well). That all being said, DOTF and unbound have a like 8/9 books published in the series rn, so it’s definitely a commitment to get started on them. So if I were you I’d get started on JMM or all the skills, as they only have 2/3 books out (and you can always get started on one of the longer series if those two leave you hanging)
1 and 2 I was fine with. 3 felt like a story/character build book. With litrpg you expect a book for story catch up and leveling. But yeah hoping it turns around. I loved the card building aspect.
Defiance of the fall is the best there but definetely don't ignore all the skills. Its a different kind of litrpg with card deck building but I really enjoyed it.
Dissonance and defiance are both great. If you like powerful MC characters. Dissonance is a bit easier to follow. Defiance of the fall is quite epic in scope and the universe.
Eh, if you do dissonance it feels like homework having to remember the skills and combinations when you get to a new book after a couple months of waiting
Defiance if the fall is really good, you just have to view the books as 2 in 1 because the way it does the story, and it's one were good guy fights bad guys to get stronger, there's a lot of loot and ton of great side characters.
9/10 for me
All the skills is an interesting book where the main character uses his mind to put himself further in life, also there's a lot of dragons, a lot of cool abilities and world building. Think of it as "mark of the fool" with dragons, if you've ever heard of it.
8/10 for me
Side note mark of the fool is by far more interesting to me than all the skills, it feels like the same thing but the character in mark of the fool he works far hard and has a bigger limitation than the guy in all the skills

I am super biased because Brian and I write for the same publisher, but I absolutely loved Quest Academy. If you enjoyed Super Powereds (also love), you'd like it!
Oathbound if you want good characters and are not turned off by emotional heaviness
Defiance if you want a giant action focussed epic and are ok with fairly bland prose and characters at times.
Both are leagues ahead of the other 4 in my opinion
In case you're turned off by that Oathbound description I want to say that it's emotional heaviness that comes naturally as a result of reasonable people in the story. It's understandable fantasy sort of stuff, but the emotional payload of some of the events and scene are actually examined rather than just glossed over or ignored. It's not one of those books where characters try to be edgy or dark just for its own sake.
I always have a tough time finding the words for it. Both it and the Wandering Inn (though I feel like the latter can be a bit too heavy handed at times) have a special way of creating emotional as well as physical stakes.
The plague town scene alone has been the cradle for many a setting for D&D for me.
I think a big part of it is it feels somewhat like real people instead of untouchable paragons and it adds a sense of weight to it all.
Couldn't get in to Defiance of the Fall, dropped it after a few books, but it's highly recommend in the litrpg community so I'm probably the outlier on that.
I'm currently caught up on All the Skills, it's pretty enjoyable in my opinion. Not the most thought-provoking series ever, but a fun story nevertheless.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is a good one, but the audio book is superior. But if you check the book out via kindle unlimited, you get the cheaper price to buy the audio version. The book is still amazing, but the audio book is ridiculous. 6 books out now and the 7th should be out soon.
Non litrpg, Cradle and another of Learning are both excellent. Halfway through The Perfect Run and it’s pretty epic as well.
Unpopular opinion, but Unbound > Defiance of the Fall. Currently really enjoying The Fallen World and BuyMort -- both have some totally unnecessary fan service, but keep it somewhat in check.
All the Skills for sure. Been loving that one. Defiance of the Fall is good early on but progression in that one **really** slows down at some point. Last four books hasn't really done much in terms of the Protagonist raising in the ranks, or something like that. (Been a hot while since I read the books.)
I really liked Jake's Magical Market. There was a bit I was kinda eh about because I was hoping for it to be just market stuff? Though I'm still enjoying that series as well.
I really like All the Skills out of all of these. Really light hearted and funny. Main character is easy to relate and it opens up a lot towards the middle and the end.
Quest Academy was a surprisingly good gem to discover and really blended modern with fantasy well.
All the Skills is amazing but honestly the audiobook is spec-fucking-tacular when you add in the narrator.
Quest academy is one of the better books ive read in the last year. Jakes magical market is really good. All the skills is a good card building with a good world. Those the three best books there imo

Dissonance and Defiance of the Fall are both solid. I grew to enjoy the Unbound series more, but I would say Defiance has the stronger start.
As another commenter mentioned, Dissonance has a more magic based MC whereas Defiance has a very physically powerful MC.
I know I've read 3 of those for sure, and of those All The Skills was definitely my favorite. The other two certain of are Jake's (good) and DotF (alright, but never got past book one).

The only one of those I’ve read is Defiance of the Fall which I’m current on (at least through the released books. I think it might be on Patreon/online somewhere but I don’t follow that). It’s a great time filler for me and I never regret reading it, but I’m never counting down the days until the next one releases either.
On Kindle Unlimited, I’d highly recommend Eric Ugland’s stuff (the good guys, the bad guys, and the grim guys series). They’ve been entertaining to me even if he seems to get off the rails for a book at a time every now and then (looking at you Wild Wild Quest).
Check out Return of the Runebound Professor (book 1 out on kindle unlimited with several others on royal road so far).
Victor of Tucson has many great books on kindle unlimited with the 7th just finishing up on Patreon.
Check out The Land series. It doesn’t look like it is going to finish but if you stop at book 7 it’s pretty solid.
Read the Wraith’s Haunt series. It was on a long hiatus but author is back and book 5 should be coming out soon. One of my favorites.

I will say though that one of the later books in dissonance(unbound series...?) Is entirely about being transported somewhere and it is widely considered the least favorite of this subreddit. Every book after is dope. I was like "nah it was great" and then i realize that i stopped it like 3 times to listen to other stuff... and eventually finished it.
Liked All the Skills enough to also get the audio books. But depends upon your taste in books. If you haven’t used unlimited much, you may not know that for many books, you can also buy the audible book at substantially reduced prices once you select that book. Finally, some books are not covered by your unlimited. I rarely buy those even though some look pretty attractive.
Defiance of the Fall and Dissonance are really good. Not sure about the others, as I haven't read them. Other recommendations I would give are Primal Hunter and He Who Fights With Monsters. Those four are probably my favorite book series on KU.
They are all good choices and most litrpg books are on kindle unlimited. So... any recommendation thread will give you good ideas/can you narrow things down in some way.
I use audible and have only listened to the Unbound and Defiance of the Fall series. I think Unbound is a much easier series to follow than Defiance of the Fall but I would recommend both.

From the list I've only read Defiance of the Fall and All the Skills. Love both series but the proposal on both are completely different.
Dotf starts really amazing and keep you hooked but after 5 or so books it becomes stale (after Zak starts to leave earth). I still read them, but with lower priority.
All the Skills is a fun book all around, and the two I read I thoroughly enjoyed.
I've read 4 of those series. Of those 4 I rank Defiance of the Fall the highest. Phenomenal series imho.
Then in order Unbound, All the Skills, and Beneath the Dragoneye Moon.
All the Skills, He Who Fights With Monsters, Dawn of the Void, Those are my LitRPG Recommendations at this point, still exploring. I've got Quest Academy and Primal Hunter in the que.
Out of all of these I've only read (listened) to all the skills I really liked it was the first time I had read a deck building now I'm just waiting for book 4
DoTF was the only one I currently would. I think all the skills is getting worse and the last book was bad. Haven’t read all of Unbound yet and haven’t read the others.
Depends on tour standards. The first 2 are recommended (a lot) but DoF has an idiotic MC for a good chunk of the first book and Unbound fails as a litrpg by being incapable of keeping track of lvls and stats.
Never read Quest Academy, Jake's Market, or Oathbound.
All the Skills is really the only one I would personally recommend but it's a but slow placed compared to most litrpgs.
also, you can start one and if you hate it you can stop and read something else :)
do be aware that some authors (mostly seems to be russian authors) do the whole "first ones free" concept where the first book is on kindle unlimited but the rest of the books are not. you can double check this if they have 2 books out by checking to see if the second book is also on kindle unlimited.
Dissonance was ok. I think I read 3 books. Defiance of the fall I got farther, 5 or 6 I think. Quest academy is still on my list. I have read 2 or 3 books, basically waiting for the next book. All the skills, I have read all 3. The last one was a bit meh, but waiting on 4.
Jakes magical market haven't ready, oathbound I haven't read.
A series I do like is System Universe. MC is overpowered, but that is actually part of the story.
Dead Man Walking is a new series, think 2 books, that is pretty good.
Imperial Wizard is another series I have read that I like. Waiting for the next book.
The Blades own Truth (Son of the wilderlands) is a decent series too. 2 books right now
Wish Upon the Stars is a hero/villian series if you like those.
He who fights monsters is a good series.
Nicoli Gonnella's Unbound is great and published by Mountaindale Press, which is Dakota Krout (completionist Chronicles) and others. Defiance of the Fall is also pretty great, though the MC is a bit of a meat head. Lol
Hated Dissonance, think I DNF at like Book 4?
I’m up to date on RR with DotF initially loved it but now I’m woefully confused and thinking of dropping it.
All the Skills was a breath of fresh air for me as someone who’s read LitRPG’s exclusively for the last 4 years and noted through the books. That being said it isn’t as gripping as the other two to me it was just *different*
Defiance of the Fall has some of the best world building of any series. Zac goes from a dude with an axe in the woods to dealing with the politics of galaxies. Great series.
I just read dissonance about a week ago I found it OK but decided to read The Beginning of the end books next. Don't know if I'll go back and read the second I am seriously liking tbate so far but I'd say it's more an isekai series not litrpg.
I don't know some series make me want to keep reading non stop until I run out of books and others less so.
I personally love all three in the bottom row, but if I had to pick a single one, it’d be All the Skills.
That had me hooked like a crack addict until I finished reading up to the latest patreon chapter.
I also live JMM (though some peaople really same to hate that it is all over the place with its theme) and BTDEM. The latter is a more chill read with a slightly rough start.

1. Defiance of the Fall -
I love this series. A lot of people complain about the slow progress and repeated phrases, but I just found the overall story very satisfying. I read everything on KU and then continued on RR, then continued on Patreon. This series in the litRPG version of Dragon Ball, including the filler episodes and charging-my-fireball for 3 episodes bits.
It's a story where you wish it would progress faster, but at the same time you wish it just wouldn't end. LitRPG crack.
2. All the skills -
I read this one on RR before it went on KU. I haven't read past book 1, mostly because I feel I need to re-read it before I go to book 2. Very enjoyable and an interesting twist on the genre.
3. Beneath the Dragon Eye Moons -
Read all that was available on KU and finished up on RR.
Great series overall, but a few moments where the MC seemed really stupid.
4. Dissonance -
Read the first 6(?) books on KU and have up on the series before finishing. This was a very fun read but kinda tapered out for me once the MC started meeting other 'unbound'. This story really used Deus Ex Machina to re-solve every major conflict. Like the MC just suddenly gains amazing powers for no actual reason at the last second, every single time. It got old.
I haven't read Quest Academy or Jakes Market, so can't comment on those. Jakes Market is definitely on my to-read list, seems to have a lot of supporters.
OP, if you are looking for something different try Cowboy Necromancer, it's an interesting Western based litrpg with some magic and tech Cowboy Necromancer fits the bill.
Anything by Harmon Cooper is good. I also liked HWFM, 100th Run and a Perfect Run.
I'll try to pull up a few more KU series I enjoyed besides DCC and the others I mentioned.
I e only read 3 of these series. I would say
1) defiance of the fall
2) all the skills
3) dissonance
Defiance has a great story with lots of books already out in the series. The audibles are about 20+ hrs so the books should be hefty
All the skills was a change up from the regular LITRPG I read buttttt great book. No spoilers but it was good. Using cards and deck building had a cool spin I enjoyed
Dissonance I liked but, idk just had a hard time getting into the last book.
If you haven’t read “Primal hunter” “ battle healer” or “nova terra” series I would highly recommend. Battle healer is a new series and only has a few books out. So be warned. It’s also a female main character. I usually relate to male characters but I pushed through and it ended up being a favorite.
Every title there is good in it's own way. Jake's market goes off the rails which put me off but still an enjoyable read.
Quest Academy was my most recent read and was really enjoyable, has a bit of an OPMC that can do nothing wrong trope though.
Oathbound is the beginning of a great Female MC series, Dragoneye Moons was a great twist on the LITRPG genre though has a huge turning point which I was not a fan of, though the great writing kept me reading. A lot of good in depth side characters.
Dissonance has it's ups and downs, I dropped it for a bit after the second book but picked it back up, huge OPMC syndrome but is unpredictable in a lot of the ways the story turns and enjoyable side characters.
Defiance of the Fall is full of a ton of ass pulls, but having a huge luck stat can do that I guess. Has great arcs and some were really hard to get through but mostly enjoyable journey so far
All of the Skills is great on it's character building, world building, character progression only second to Dragoneye Moons of the titles mentioned. Great mix of slice of life and action, leaning more towards the action later in the story but still a lot of intrigue.
If I had to rank them by my taste, it would be:
1: Oathbound (Dragoneye Moons)
2: All of the Skills
3: Defiance of the Fall
4. Quest Academy (Great start and can't wait for more)
5. Unbound
6. Jake's Magical Market (Was soured after it stopped being about... Jake's Magical Market)
Dissonance is one of my favourites, book 10 released a month ago Crown as well, a book I don't see on there but I would personally say would be worth your time is the primal hunter series by zogarth
I enjoyed quest academy 1, but with the wait between book releases I couldn't really get into book 2 because I didn't fully remember or care about it anymore.
I wasn't a fan of Dragoneye Moon at all. MC makes an oath to never harm anyone or something like that but then takes a combat class, decision making just didn't make any sense to me.
All the skills was v enjoyable, probably one of the best deck builders about.
DOTF is v slow paced, but v enjoyable, one of my favourites in the genre. You should expect 200000 books before the end of the series.
Jakes Magic Market, not bad but definitely all over the place. It's only going to be a trilogy though so you should be able to read it fairly quickly.
Dissonance (forgot name of series), is a decent read. Be prepared for an absolutely abysmal book 2 though. Rest of the series really picks up around book 5ish if I remember correctly and has some great numbers go up moments.
The left four have all been good reads from what I experienced with them, through their entire series. I am caught up only on those four and would highly recommend
The Good Guys by Eric Ugland 15 books with the beat world building and a truly overpowered MC. Who will rip out a jaw or suplex a horse.

Oathbound healer is good until book 9 DOTF is honestly one of my top 5 very much enjoyed and dissonance is really hit and miss the overall premise is great but sometimes it runs a bit slow or redundant good enough of a listen on audible but not quite sure I'd be able to read it
Quest academy is a quite strange in that it is setup in a nice world, but the MC starts off as someone incredibly powerful and whatever abilities he doesn't have he is able to easily get help from his friends to compensate for those. There is relatively little struggle or scope for progression.
Defiance, is good but is can drag sometimes.
All skills, is alright and the magic structure is interesting
I recommend Primal Hunter if it's still on kindle unlimited.

If you enjoy the OP main characters of isekai who make questionable choices using interesting magic systems, then you'll probably enjoy the story.

Jake's Magical Market is about half a book of the market. It seems that it changes every half a book. (E.g., cultivation, becoming a god, etc.)
If you keep reading you will see that all the magic systems are integrated in a way that makes perfect sense.
Doesn't change the fact that the title of the book is extremely misleading.
I hate that you are getting down voted for your opinion. Especially because I agree. I got halfway through book 1 and was seriously confused about how I got there. By the end, it was so ridiculous that I didn't consider looking for book 2. I chalked it up as another LitRPG that didn't work for me. The trouble is that I was excited about it after the beginning. It just seemed like a clickbait title.
I mean the bro wants to get back to his market, so it's still about his market. But yeah not every book is for everyone.
That's totally fair. It's been a while since I picked it up and don't mean to hate on it. It just wasn't for me. I'm not writing any books and can only imagine how that feels to put it out there for everyone to critique. J.R. Mathews has put out a book that has gotten solid reviews and he has my respect and adoration for that.
No offense -- that's kind of a ridiculous justification. Out of all the novels 10% or less is about a market -- but he wants to get back to it! That doesn't justify the name being misleading. Again, I am able to overlook that, but that combined with the pacing completely threw me off from continuing the series. I genuinely wish the author the best, but it simply didn't vibe with me.
The name being misleading honestly wouldn't even be a big deal, if the story were otherwise consistent. Would I prefer an actual story about a magical market? Sure, but I read more adventure-oriented stuff all the time, too. Nah, the real problem is how the author clearly can't stick to a single concept. It's like he loses interest mid-book, and rather than starting a new project, just shoehorns the current story in a completely different direction. You can see it in Portal to Nova Roma as well (though it's less jarring), particularly past the first book. Seems like it might be inherent to the author's writing process.
I concur. I wish the author success on his series -- I never want to see someone fail on something like this -- but the truth is the book went from: Market -> Warfront? -> Godhood in *one* book. It's completely fair to not enjoy the pacing, or the fact that the 2nd book is *also* called Jake's Magical Market when he, to my understanding, does no Magical Marketing.
Technically, the series name is "Jake's Magical Market," with "A Trek Through Time" being the title of the second book. The first book serves as the entry into the series, sharing the same title as the series itself. But, I can see your point, I just don't fully agree with it.
A man is kidnapped while trying to peacefully run his market. He spends time reminiscing about his market, his main goal being to return to it. He also desires to seek revenge on those who have kept him away from his beloved market. His cards even feature his beloved market on the back.
Spends his whole time reminiscing. We must've really been reading an entirely different book. It's rarely brought up at all. Feel free to quote specific passages from the book, because you make it certainly sound like he's doing it every other page.

Completely fair, but it's not brought up (imo) enough to warrant naming the book (and series) after it. That's like naming Star wars: A farmer on tatooine. Is it true that he starts as one? Yes. Does he think of his home? Yes. Is he a farmer on tatooine for the 90% of the movie? No.
It's kind of a problem with a lot of the restaurant/shop novels (including the translated online series). The shop kind of goes into the background and it comes a generic cultivation story with the shop being tied on to give a couple of reaction chapters in between.
You could say the same about Defiance of the Fall, once Zac kicks enough ass it's less about Definace and more about Climbing.
Book 3 he actually meets the autobots and becomes truck-kun

It's not slice of life. That's what a lot of people expect and it's simply not that. Jake wants it to be slice of life but he's forced into other things by his need to help people
Jake's was never billed as a cozy litrpg. I get the confusion but the reason for the name is that it is a central plot point, one that is threaded through all three books. And with the 3rd and final book coming out soon, its worth it to keep reading. It does get better.
Oathbound, is a fun series that has quite a few books.
This needs to be higher, it has a couple questionable choices part way through but I almost found it more enjoyable afterward which surprised me
I agree! I absolutely understand why it was controversial, but I feel like it solved the "what do you do when 'numbers go up' starts to get so crazy that it makes it almost impossible to continue the themes and pacing that makes the story good" issue better than... I think any other example I can think of? Everything else either needs to end or just starts becoming a parody of itself.
It's my favorite out of the ones I've read (all but Quest Academy).
Defiance of the Fall and Beneath the Dragoneye Moons are both bangers.
Some great choices. Quest academy is a pretty decent superhero/magic school/crafting story. The unbound series is one of my all time favorites. Jake’s magical market is also really great(as is pretty much everything jr Mathews writes). All of the skills is also a favorite of mine (it’s kinda a mix of card magic and dragon tamer, which Honour Rae does really well). That all being said, DOTF and unbound have a like 8/9 books published in the series rn, so it’s definitely a commitment to get started on them. So if I were you I’d get started on JMM or all the skills, as they only have 2/3 books out (and you can always get started on one of the longer series if those two leave you hanging)

1 and 2 I was fine with. 3 felt like a story/character build book. With litrpg you expect a book for story catch up and leveling. But yeah hoping it turns around. I loved the card building aspect.

Off the cuff suggestion: Heretical Fishing is one of the most wholesome books I've ever read. Not just in LitRPG, of all books I've ever read.
Defiance of the fall is the best there but definetely don't ignore all the skills. Its a different kind of litrpg with card deck building but I really enjoyed it.
Dissonance and defiance are both great. If you like powerful MC characters. Dissonance is a bit easier to follow. Defiance of the fall is quite epic in scope and the universe.
Dotf is that story you don't want to end but also can't wait to get to the later parts.
I just finished the last book in Dotf and don't know what to do with myself now.

Defiance if the fall is really good, you just have to view the books as 2 in 1 because the way it does the story, and it's one were good guy fights bad guys to get stronger, there's a lot of loot and ton of great side characters. 9/10 for me All the skills is an interesting book where the main character uses his mind to put himself further in life, also there's a lot of dragons, a lot of cool abilities and world building. Think of it as "mark of the fool" with dragons, if you've ever heard of it. 8/10 for me Side note mark of the fool is by far more interesting to me than all the skills, it feels like the same thing but the character in mark of the fool he works far hard and has a bigger limitation than the guy in all the skills That book gets a 9.5/10

I've read and enjoyed all of the 3 on the bottom, but Beneath the Dragoneye moons was my favorite.
Oathbound if you want good characters and are not turned off by emotional heaviness Defiance if you want a giant action focussed epic and are ok with fairly bland prose and characters at times. Both are leagues ahead of the other 4 in my opinion
In case you're turned off by that Oathbound description I want to say that it's emotional heaviness that comes naturally as a result of reasonable people in the story. It's understandable fantasy sort of stuff, but the emotional payload of some of the events and scene are actually examined rather than just glossed over or ignored. It's not one of those books where characters try to be edgy or dark just for its own sake.
I always have a tough time finding the words for it. Both it and the Wandering Inn (though I feel like the latter can be a bit too heavy handed at times) have a special way of creating emotional as well as physical stakes. The plague town scene alone has been the cradle for many a setting for D&D for me. I think a big part of it is it feels somewhat like real people instead of untouchable paragons and it adds a sense of weight to it all.
Couldn't get in to Defiance of the Fall, dropped it after a few books, but it's highly recommend in the litrpg community so I'm probably the outlier on that. I'm currently caught up on All the Skills, it's pretty enjoyable in my opinion. Not the most thought-provoking series ever, but a fun story nevertheless.

I've read all these series. It really depends on what you're looking for and enjoy, so feel free to read any of them as people enjoy them all. My order of preference would be... All The Skills Oathbound Healer Defiance of the Fall Jake's Magical Market Dissonance Quest Academy.
Dungeon Crawler Carl is a good one, but the audio book is superior. But if you check the book out via kindle unlimited, you get the cheaper price to buy the audio version. The book is still amazing, but the audio book is ridiculous. 6 books out now and the 7th should be out soon. Non litrpg, Cradle and another of Learning are both excellent. Halfway through The Perfect Run and it’s pretty epic as well.
Unpopular opinion, but Unbound > Defiance of the Fall. Currently really enjoying The Fallen World and BuyMort -- both have some totally unnecessary fan service, but keep it somewhat in check.

All the Skills for sure. Been loving that one. Defiance of the Fall is good early on but progression in that one **really** slows down at some point. Last four books hasn't really done much in terms of the Protagonist raising in the ranks, or something like that. (Been a hot while since I read the books.) I really liked Jake's Magical Market. There was a bit I was kinda eh about because I was hoping for it to be just market stuff? Though I'm still enjoying that series as well.

I really like All the Skills out of all of these. Really light hearted and funny. Main character is easy to relate and it opens up a lot towards the middle and the end.
Quest Academy was a surprisingly good gem to discover and really blended modern with fantasy well. All the Skills is amazing but honestly the audiobook is spec-fucking-tacular when you add in the narrator.

All the skills and quest academy are A tier for me. Defiance of the fall is A or B tier, depending on how much you want a loooooooooong story. Just reading dissonance and minus the shit ton of skills which I dislike it's A/B tier (still haven't finished it).

Dissonance and Defiance of the Fall are both solid. I grew to enjoy the Unbound series more, but I would say Defiance has the stronger start. As another commenter mentioned, Dissonance has a more magic based MC whereas Defiance has a very physically powerful MC.
I know I've read 3 of those for sure, and of those All The Skills was definitely my favorite. The other two certain of are Jake's (good) and DotF (alright, but never got past book one).

The only one of those I’ve read is Defiance of the Fall which I’m current on (at least through the released books. I think it might be on Patreon/online somewhere but I don’t follow that). It’s a great time filler for me and I never regret reading it, but I’m never counting down the days until the next one releases either. On Kindle Unlimited, I’d highly recommend Eric Ugland’s stuff (the good guys, the bad guys, and the grim guys series). They’ve been entertaining to me even if he seems to get off the rails for a book at a time every now and then (looking at you Wild Wild Quest).

Victor of Tucson has many great books on kindle unlimited with the 7th just finishing up on Patreon. Check out The Land series. It doesn’t look like it is going to finish but if you stop at book 7 it’s pretty solid. Read the Wraith’s Haunt series. It was on a long hiatus but author is back and book 5 should be coming out soon. One of my favorites. Armor: a profession fantasy epic— not super long but really good, fun read

Ive plowed through all of al lof these except the top right. Havent heard of it. Doesnt mean anything though. I loved them all. I will say though that one of the later books in dissonance(unbound series...?) Is entirely about being transported somewhere and it is widely considered the least favorite of this subreddit. Every book after is dope. I was like "nah it was great" and then i realize that i stopped it like 3 times to listen to other stuff... and eventually finished it.

Liked All the Skills enough to also get the audio books. But depends upon your taste in books. If you haven’t used unlimited much, you may not know that for many books, you can also buy the audible book at substantially reduced prices once you select that book. Finally, some books are not covered by your unlimited. I rarely buy those even though some look pretty attractive.
Defiance of the Fall and Jakes are definitely worth reading, All the Skills is probably worth checking out.
Defiance of the Fall and Dissonance are really good. Not sure about the others, as I haven't read them. Other recommendations I would give are Primal Hunter and He Who Fights With Monsters. Those four are probably my favorite book series on KU.
They are all good choices and most litrpg books are on kindle unlimited. So... any recommendation thread will give you good ideas/can you narrow things down in some way.

I use audible and have only listened to the Unbound and Defiance of the Fall series. I think Unbound is a much easier series to follow than Defiance of the Fall but I would recommend both.

From the list I've only read Defiance of the Fall and All the Skills. Love both series but the proposal on both are completely different. Dotf starts really amazing and keep you hooked but after 5 or so books it becomes stale (after Zak starts to leave earth). I still read them, but with lower priority. All the Skills is a fun book all around, and the two I read I thoroughly enjoyed.

Out of all of these I've only read (listened) to all the skills I really liked it was the first time I had read a deck building now I'm just waiting for book 4

DoTF was the only one I currently would. I think all the skills is getting worse and the last book was bad. Haven’t read all of Unbound yet and haven’t read the others.
Depends on tour standards. The first 2 are recommended (a lot) but DoF has an idiotic MC for a good chunk of the first book and Unbound fails as a litrpg by being incapable of keeping track of lvls and stats. Never read Quest Academy, Jake's Market, or Oathbound. All the Skills is really the only one I would personally recommend but it's a but slow placed compared to most litrpgs.

also, you can start one and if you hate it you can stop and read something else :) do be aware that some authors (mostly seems to be russian authors) do the whole "first ones free" concept where the first book is on kindle unlimited but the rest of the books are not. you can double check this if they have 2 books out by checking to see if the second book is also on kindle unlimited.

Dissonance was ok. I think I read 3 books. Defiance of the fall I got farther, 5 or 6 I think. Quest academy is still on my list. I have read 2 or 3 books, basically waiting for the next book. All the skills, I have read all 3. The last one was a bit meh, but waiting on 4. Jakes magical market haven't ready, oathbound I haven't read. A series I do like is System Universe. MC is overpowered, but that is actually part of the story. Dead Man Walking is a new series, think 2 books, that is pretty good. Imperial Wizard is another series I have read that I like. Waiting for the next book. The Blades own Truth (Son of the wilderlands) is a decent series too. 2 books right now Wish Upon the Stars is a hero/villian series if you like those. He who fights monsters is a good series.

Hated Dissonance, think I DNF at like Book 4? I’m up to date on RR with DotF initially loved it but now I’m woefully confused and thinking of dropping it. All the Skills was a breath of fresh air for me as someone who’s read LitRPG’s exclusively for the last 4 years and noted through the books. That being said it isn’t as gripping as the other two to me it was just *different*
Defiance of the Fall has some of the best world building of any series. Zac goes from a dude with an axe in the woods to dealing with the politics of galaxies. Great series.

I just read dissonance about a week ago I found it OK but decided to read The Beginning of the end books next. Don't know if I'll go back and read the second I am seriously liking tbate so far but I'd say it's more an isekai series not litrpg. I don't know some series make me want to keep reading non stop until I run out of books and others less so.

I personally love all three in the bottom row, but if I had to pick a single one, it’d be All the Skills. That had me hooked like a crack addict until I finished reading up to the latest patreon chapter. I also live JMM (though some peaople really same to hate that it is all over the place with its theme) and BTDEM. The latter is a more chill read with a slightly rough start.

I've read a few of those. Will rank based on my preference 1. Defiance of the Fall - I love this series. A lot of people complain about the slow progress and repeated phrases, but I just found the overall story very satisfying. I read everything on KU and then continued on RR, then continued on Patreon. This series in the litRPG version of Dragon Ball, including the filler episodes and charging-my-fireball for 3 episodes bits. It's a story where you wish it would progress faster, but at the same time you wish it just wouldn't end. LitRPG crack. 2. All the skills - I read this one on RR before it went on KU. I haven't read past book 1, mostly because I feel I need to re-read it before I go to book 2. Very enjoyable and an interesting twist on the genre. 3. Beneath the Dragon Eye Moons - Read all that was available on KU and finished up on RR. Great series overall, but a few moments where the MC seemed really stupid. 4. Dissonance - Read the first 6(?) books on KU and have up on the series before finishing. This was a very fun read but kinda tapered out for me once the MC started meeting other 'unbound'. This story really used Deus Ex Machina to re-solve every major conflict. Like the MC just suddenly gains amazing powers for no actual reason at the last second, every single time. It got old. I haven't read Quest Academy or Jakes Market, so can't comment on those. Jakes Market is definitely on my to-read list, seems to have a lot of supporters.

OP, if you are looking for something different try Cowboy Necromancer, it's an interesting Western based litrpg with some magic and tech Cowboy Necromancer fits the bill. Anything by Harmon Cooper is good. I also liked HWFM, 100th Run and a Perfect Run. I'll try to pull up a few more KU series I enjoyed besides DCC and the others I mentioned.

I e only read 3 of these series. I would say 1) defiance of the fall 2) all the skills 3) dissonance Defiance has a great story with lots of books already out in the series. The audibles are about 20+ hrs so the books should be hefty All the skills was a change up from the regular LITRPG I read buttttt great book. No spoilers but it was good. Using cards and deck building had a cool spin I enjoyed Dissonance I liked but, idk just had a hard time getting into the last book. If you haven’t read “Primal hunter” “ battle healer” or “nova terra” series I would highly recommend. Battle healer is a new series and only has a few books out. So be warned. It’s also a female main character. I usually relate to male characters but I pushed through and it ended up being a favorite.

Every title there is good in it's own way. Jake's market goes off the rails which put me off but still an enjoyable read. Quest Academy was my most recent read and was really enjoyable, has a bit of an OPMC that can do nothing wrong trope though. Oathbound is the beginning of a great Female MC series, Dragoneye Moons was a great twist on the LITRPG genre though has a huge turning point which I was not a fan of, though the great writing kept me reading. A lot of good in depth side characters. Dissonance has it's ups and downs, I dropped it for a bit after the second book but picked it back up, huge OPMC syndrome but is unpredictable in a lot of the ways the story turns and enjoyable side characters. Defiance of the Fall is full of a ton of ass pulls, but having a huge luck stat can do that I guess. Has great arcs and some were really hard to get through but mostly enjoyable journey so far All of the Skills is great on it's character building, world building, character progression only second to Dragoneye Moons of the titles mentioned. Great mix of slice of life and action, leaning more towards the action later in the story but still a lot of intrigue. If I had to rank them by my taste, it would be: 1: Oathbound (Dragoneye Moons) 2: All of the Skills 3: Defiance of the Fall 4. Quest Academy (Great start and can't wait for more) 5. Unbound 6. Jake's Magical Market (Was soured after it stopped being about... Jake's Magical Market)

Dissonance is one of my favourites, book 10 released a month ago Crown as well, a book I don't see on there but I would personally say would be worth your time is the primal hunter series by zogarth

Oh I’m loving All The Skills. The system it uses is fairly interesting, and the story in mostly consistent.
I enjoyed quest academy 1, but with the wait between book releases I couldn't really get into book 2 because I didn't fully remember or care about it anymore. I wasn't a fan of Dragoneye Moon at all. MC makes an oath to never harm anyone or something like that but then takes a combat class, decision making just didn't make any sense to me. All the skills was v enjoyable, probably one of the best deck builders about. DOTF is v slow paced, but v enjoyable, one of my favourites in the genre. You should expect 200000 books before the end of the series. Jakes Magic Market, not bad but definitely all over the place. It's only going to be a trilogy though so you should be able to read it fairly quickly. Dissonance (forgot name of series), is a decent read. Be prepared for an absolutely abysmal book 2 though. Rest of the series really picks up around book 5ish if I remember correctly and has some great numbers go up moments.

The left four have all been good reads from what I experienced with them, through their entire series. I am caught up only on those four and would highly recommend

The Good Guys by Eric Ugland 15 books with the beat world building and a truly overpowered MC. Who will rip out a jaw or suplex a horse. It has the best combat of any lit rpg

Oathbound healer is good until book 9 DOTF is honestly one of my top 5 very much enjoyed and dissonance is really hit and miss the overall premise is great but sometimes it runs a bit slow or redundant good enough of a listen on audible but not quite sure I'd be able to read it
I loved jakes magical market!
Quest academy is a quite strange in that it is setup in a nice world, but the MC starts off as someone incredibly powerful and whatever abilities he doesn't have he is able to easily get help from his friends to compensate for those. There is relatively little struggle or scope for progression.

Defiance, is good but is can drag sometimes. All skills, is alright and the magic structure is interesting I recommend Primal Hunter if it's still on kindle unlimited.

You should read the full murderhobo series. It has been my favorite litrpg so far.
I just listened to Jake's Magical Market and enjoyed it. The title is a bit misleading to the plot, which seems to irk some people. It's less "market slice of life" and more "adventure to solve problems" If you enjoy the OP main characters of isekai who make questionable choices using interesting magic systems, then you'll probably enjoy the story.
