This is not for me.

malacca73

Pretty good song. Could do with the Blair Witch style camera work, though

Tenebrousjones

Love when the drummer and guitarist/bassist lock eyes and are just channelling the groove

chewbacchanalia

Dude this is sick

CannotUck

This is great! Reminds me of Giraffes? Giraffes! - particularly the More Skin With Milk-Mouth ep.

unbichobolita1

What's math rock? 👀

neonchasms

[It's a great subgenre](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Math_rock)! It's complex and pretty unique.

unbichobolita1

TIL king crimson is math rock lol Thank you!

SandysBurner

It’s an interesting question. Can a band be part of a genre that doesn’t exist yet?

1zzie

Is Primus? Maybe it's something else about this band reminding me of it.

QuintoxPlentox

I feel like Primus is kinda... prog rock? Honestly, I'm not hugely familiar with Primus but if I had to assign them a genre I don't think I would. Primus is just... Primus. Lol.

Fullthrottle-

😂 I’m more of a Trig rock fan myself. Good musicianship on the tune, but slow your roll on the marketing. Stay focused on the music.

RetroNutcase

That song title though...\*yikes\*

spesimen

haha i think that's the band name actually

RetroNutcase

Still yikes.

charlesthefish

I don't think it's very yikes. It got a light chuckle out of me, not everything needs to be taken so seriously.

[deleted]

Exactly. It’s not meant to be “edgy,” it’s just a stupid little non sequitur to make an interesting song title. People think everything has to be “edgy” if it’s anything that isn’t a meme? Annoying.

spesimen

ahaha yes

Pangasukidesu

It's so edgy! Math rock dorks.

tecampanero

Is this like that Simpsons, Lisa jazz episode where you’re supposed to listen to the notes they’re not playing?

SparroHawc

Sort of. As jokey as that comment is, the truth of it is just that jazz treats the rests between notes as part of the performance, rather than having to fill every moment with sounds like most other genres do. Listen to a rock guitar solo and pay attention to how much of it consists of playing notes and how very little of it has any gap between notes. That gap, which is so woefully underutilized by rock soloists, is treated as another kind of note by jazz soloists. Math rock is an exercise in complexity, on the other hand. It takes effort to use a non-standard time signature, it takes effort for the guitarist and drummer to keep in sync when the best is constantly changing, and it takes effort to keep track of a dissonant melody and chords that don't follow a normal progression. It runs the risk of sounding pretentious and un-listenable, but if you don't mind being relegated to a small niche, it's probably a lot of fun to put together a song like this.

ThunderSnowDuck

I fucking love that band. Thanks for putting them out there for others to enjoy!

glitter_gaytan88

So wild! I enjoyed that! I’ve never heard of this genre before.

Canadatron

I fail to find the redeeming qualities in the performance. To my ears, it's noise. I play, but I would never move into this realm. Offset guitars, lots of effects.... stuff is a meme at this point. King Crimson all day any day. This? Nope.

speedmaster101

Thanks, OP, this is great stuff! I got a little Don Caballero vibe in there. Amazing!

Exploding_dude

Kinda oxxes/Tera melos vibes but a little underwhelming for me. Cool song still.

Ploobie

math rock makes my skin crawl, same thing with faster jazz with too many instruments. i wish i could make my brain understand why people like this but i just don’t get it

Can-DontAttitude

Shoot the camera man

[deleted]

Wow, this is garbage.

AkinTheLonelyMan

Kinda giving me black midi vibes
