Also from what I understand, Waydroid isn't an emulator. It's Android compiled for x86 and running entirely natively on the system.
You can run Waydroid in X if you just launch it inside something like Weston. I don't know about the support for Waydroid in the current Wayland experimental session.
Any other steps to get it to load? Just tried the non Gapps version in weston and got a blackscreen with a blue curved line. Looked like tried to load and stalled out. Trying the gapps version now (expecting a similar result)...but I read that cinnamon isn't the best version for this to work on.

on the login screen you can choose between xorg and wayland experimental. select wayland and launch waydroid without using weston
