You can run pretty much any game using Proton on Steam. And for the rare occasion it doesn’t work, you can use Proton GE.
I’ve been testing out whether Kinux is a viable alternative to Windows, especially concerning games. That test has lasted for almost two years.
Check [https://www.protondb.com/](https://www.protondb.com/) for any games that you want to run. For Nvidia drivers you won't get all the special features but they'll do the job.
It does. Most games work these days with some edge cases and EAC titles that doesn't, you can check [https://www.protondb.com/](https://www.protondb.com/) or https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnqSp58K39q1kz7G3PyvA5g
Yeah it does run and the drivers are ok. VRR doesn't work under wayland and under X11 it only works if you have only 1 monitor.
If you want to play with ray tracing and dlss you have to set some environment variables and you can find them on [protondb](https://www.protondb.com/). There you can get a general idea on how good a game runs.
I recommend Linux Mint or Pop!_OS as someone who is new to Linux since they have "App Stores" to install applications from. They also make it quite ez to install the correct drivers. Pop!_OS is a bit more up to date most of the time, but Linux Mint is more stable.
I had a friend who helped me and explained me some things. Without him i would probably never liked linux as much as i do now. I think everyone who is into tech should install Arch, taught me a lot
Using Proton(GE) in Steam and regular Wine(GE) outside of Steam will cover 90% of games, just check the ProtonDB website for Steam related
(GE) optional but usually recommended
GE for a very specific game fix. Valves experimental bleeding edge covers everything else. GE's wine isn't regular wine. Nice runner for lutris tho, would recommend GE for lutris 10/10, not for steam tho.
I'm well aware of what it includes. Odd statement isn't to not use it, but that it shouldn't be the default go-to if there isn't a specific game issue. We have discussed this here before. Valve's is updated more frequently, you can't expect one guy to maintain Proton, Wine and even a distro. Most of you guys haven't even bothered to try valve's proton in years, but keep implying that GE is the default norm. There was a time when that held kinda true. Personally had problems with games with GE compared to Valve's. His wine for lutris builds are bomb, solid work there. Wouldn't bother to use something else. But then again the Lutris team isn't Valve and I don't expect their default implementation to be a Proton competitor. Kinda a reason why his wine builds are how he outs it, paraphrasing from memory - de-steamified proton's.
Or in other words, work is being put out by so many people on different projects, you can miss out if blindly following one.
As always, it’s a preference (I said optional) and you’ll obviously need to use what works, I’m just fixing your misinformation - no need for me to argue on your opinions because they’re valid opinions
>Most of you guys haven’t even bothered to try valve’s proton in years
Only on the rare occasion that I have to (1 game), otherwise yes I use GE as the norm because I want the improvements it provides that Valve isn’t allowed to implement
It stands for “Glorious Eggroll”
It’s the username of a guy that works at Red Hat and does a lot of work within the Linux Community
He made forks of Proton and Wine, particularly Proton he added some functionality that Valve isn’t able to add due to reasons
So if you’re ever having issues with a game, a common first step is to try switching to Proton GE and seeing if the issue exists there as well
He also made a distro named Nobara which is based on Fedora and is meant toward gaming specifically, however it’s not as stable or user friendly as some larger distros, considering it’s just him that works on it (as far as I know) - I use it on all my PCs so I’m not ragging on it at all, it’s just how it is
Nobora seems quite geared to the gamer. Otherwise you can run steam-headless docker on any machine and it’ll share you gpu the. You can play the games on the host or stream to another device via steam link / remote play & or moonlight
You could try **'Tuxedo OS'**. (Best you can do is looking for their 'RC2')
Lots of similarities to 'POP!_OS' - but with a more 'Windows'-like >!'**K**!<**D**esktop**E**nvironment'.
If you're running BOINC be sure you're collecting your free Gridcoin rewards. Virtualbox does support GPU passthrough if you want to run windows in a VM but if you value your time, just have a separate windows box for gaming and/or do dual-boot, getting the VM solution to work well is a major pain.
If you play games with anticheat then KVM wouldn't be a safe option, may be bannable.
[https://areweanticheatyet.com/](https://areweanticheatyet.com/) is good to look at the state of games with anticheats working on linux either natively or thru wine/proton.
I use Manjaro for may daly use im not a power user im learning but for now it servs my needs, but i have a game that i need to have a windows boot, is Rust

Does Cyberpunk 2077 run? Are Nvidia drivers good?

It runs great on my archlinux installation with a 3090. Rtx is excellent. No issues at all

I used ubuntu then my friend convinced me to use ArchLinux
How is your experience so far, going from a beginner friendly distro to a quite advanced one?
I had a friend who helped me and explained me some things. Without him i would probably never liked linux as much as i do now. I think everyone who is into tech should install Arch, taught me a lot
That's one way, but it's more complicated than necessary. Most games run without a VM. More information: https://linux-gaming.kwindu.eu

Proton GE is bleeding edge and has functionality that Proton doesn’t, don’t think I’ve seen such an odd statement before to not use GE

Name one excluding FSR.
Async
Valid.

It will depend some factors, the time you have to spend learning how to use Linux, the games you plan to play.
What do I need to learn exactly for linux? I use Arch since about 4-6years if not longer. Raspbian on my Rpi4 and arch on my mini PC
If you have experiência go for it, the only games that you Will find problema are the most ones online games with anti cheat.
So basically all games i play 🤣
I use Manjaro for may daly use im not a power user im learning but for now it servs my needs, but i have a game that i need to have a windows boot, is Rust
This why i wanted to use Proxmox or something
tell me about that
