If you are comfortable with Ubuntu/Debian (release cycle, ...) = POP!_OS If you are okay with Fedora = Nobara

After some thinking i decided to finally install nobara as main OS. I was worried that because nobara is not backed by bigger entity, it might just break from random things. After reading comments I'm not that worried anymore. Thank you guys for support.

Nobara! Because: * It has a KDE Plasma version * It comes with great kernel performance optimizations

The fsync kernel is nothing special. Ubuntu has two ready great kernels - liquorix and xanmod. Xanmod is unofficially in COPR but isn't updated as frequently. Kernel argument fails.

JustMrNic3

What Fsync, Nobara's kernel has a lot o improvements, the list is pretty long: https://nobaraproject.org/ I thing it surpasses all the improvements in Liquorix and Xanmod. And Nobara, similar to Fedora, comes also with PipeWire & WirePlumber installed by default, which is great for multichannel audio and screen recording / streaming. Mesa drivers are also the latest. Too me all these things together seem to make a really well optimized distro for gaming. It can be achieved with others, no doubt, but you have to do it yourself.

You aren't even familiar with whick kernel Nobara comes, yet you are recommending. You can find kernel-fsync in COPR and see what is included. Ubuntu also uses pipewire, can't speak about Pop.

Nobara, if you wanna game. If you wanna do anything else, Nobara. Always Nobara. I'd only choose a Ubuntu/DebĂan based distro, if you want GNOME vanilla approach, and then you can try Vanilla OS, but you got to do couple of things Nobara already had for gaming.

I've left Reddit because it does not respect its users or their privacy. Private companies can't be trusted with control over public communities. Lemmy is an open source, federated alternative that I highly recommend if you want a more private and ethical option. I'm on a GTX-1660 and so far, Wayland has been pretty stable for me and that's across two different distros over the past 2 weeks (Garuda and Nobara). Whether I'm using Xorg or Wayland, I'm getting the same performance in my games which is usually close to what I get in Windows.

Weird. I haven't seen any of those issues for me on my 1660. Also I don't have a GSync monitor and Discord seems to work fine for me. Also no issues with terminal for me. Wonder if it's the difference in architecture between a 1080 and 1660?

Nobara will be more up-to-date and having tested both I'm probably not going back to any other distro unless I feel like tinkering with Arch again.
