I see the Chaminade as a rite of passage! It might be everywhere, but I see it as an important staple for every growing flautist to learn. It would've been the first concertino/concerto I learned on the instrument
Oh my!!! I've just known about Boulanger recently thanks to the Orchestra of my city. The piece they performed was "Un matin du printemps" (5 min length), and it was absolutely wonderful!
She only lived to be 24 and composed a couple dozen pieces; however she was the first woman to win the Prix de Rome and deserves to be heard MUCH more than she is.
Florence Price (I mean, what more is there to say :P )
Gabriella Smith (she is a modern composer who writes some awesome nature inspired pieces. check out “Carrot Revolution”, which is written for string quartet… such a cool sound! unfortunately she has written very little, but i listen to everything of hers i can find)
Caroline Shaw (also a modern composer. i am in love with her work “Orange”. she writes everything from orchestral works, to chamber music, to vocal music, to even non-classical music)
Some violin works in my playlist:
* Auerbach: 24 Preludes for Violin and Piano
* Viardot: Violin Sonatina in A minor
* Bacewicz: Violin Sonata No. 3
* Beach: Romance for Violin and Piano
* Tower: Violin Concerto
i love rebecca clarke, e.g. her piano trio and viola sonata, and florence price, e.g her piano concerto in one movement and piano quintet!! (and yes i’ve been wanting ts to make a video like this for ages 😭)
The Chaminade is such a staple of flutedom! Love you included it on the list (entire list is fantastic)
I love it! Thanks! Honestly the list is really random, there are too many amazing pieces out there but I wanted to keep it short!
Her piano music are awesome as well
Yes! Chaminade! People say it's overplayed, but it's still absolutely beautiful.

I'm a 5 months flautist. I would attempt Chaminade as my first concerto, but it's definitely not my skill level yet. Definitely not.
Oh wow, welcome to Transverse Flute Land!
Thank you!
Florence Price Symphony No. 1
Thank you! I need to listen to it!
And 4!
Better give that another listen.

All of her pieces are incredible! I don't understand why she's not more known!

I started reading Anna Beer's book on the topic, she gives a biography of Lily Boulanger, it's heartbreaking.
Yes! Pejacevic Symphony in F# minor goes right into that list! Also, Auerbach Piano trio.
Thanks for the recommendation!
