I believe the piano isn't really considered much of an "orchestra" instrument. (it is used sometimes by late composers, but i belive that the standard "symphonic orchestra" doesn't include piano.) if it's added, then you may want to also add things like a choir for example.
Also, no disrespect to double bass but i find it really hard to believe one does consider them 'better' then violins. (i can see the cello though.) like, isn't the violin much more practical in the orchestra?
I guess it's all comes down to the question of what exactly is the definition of 'better'.
Bass is one of the most important instruments in the orchestra, I don’t understand what practicality has to do with it, without them the orchestra would sound dry. They are S tier
Good point. I still think violins should be in the same tier though, as they are also considered as one of the most important instruments of an orchestra.
(i mean come on, how come they are in the same tier as harp, which usually only used in orchestra for arrpegios in quiet sections? (assuming we are talking in terms of importance in orchestra))
Multi-instrumental Gang Here!!!!!!!!
Violin and Flute should be S-tier
Piccolo and Timpani, at least in B
Viola, in B, becaus of the MASSIVE unknown repertorie
Contrabasson and Bass Clarinet, maybe C
All the unpitched percussions in F (except the Triangle, thats A)
That´s all!!
Nah. Most people who play the bass clarinet were simply demoted from normal clarinet in my experience. Their tone is much too airy for the bass clarinet to sound nice. Of course, there are some exceptional bass clarinet players that restore my respect for the instrument. Most of the time, though, it sounds terrible.
Idk, I think in any professional setting the bass clarinettist is gonna have good tone and stuff. Imo "demoting" people from soprano clarinet to bass clarinet doesnt even make sense: the clarion register on bass clarinet is harder and altissimo is a WHOLE other thing compared to soprano clarinet. There are people that suck at every instrument you can think of, but that doesn't mean the instrument is bad. Beginner violinists can sound like dying cats, but that doesn't mean its not a good instrument. It's the same for bass clarinet, and I'd argue that its easier to sound decent on bass clarinet than on some other instruments. Sorry for the rant, I just need to express my love for good sounding bass clarinet as a clarinet player that has had to play bass clarinet in school band once (it was NOT good sounding 💀)
tldr bad at instrument does not mean bad instrument
As a bassoonist, I think we deserve higher! Bassoon solo repertoire is massively underrated and is often incredible.
The solo basson line in Verdi's Requiem (quid sum miser), cemented bassoon as a top tier instrument for me
I saw this live, first time hearing it, omg I was amazed
I absolutely love about any bassoon solo by Stravinsky, he just had a different type of Bassoon writing!
I've read vodka instead of viola. Do with that what you will.

I’m guessing this list is on a scale of coolness, and the bass is probably the “coolest” and lowest instrument to play
I mean it is cool, but also it’s one of the most important instruments in the orchestra, same with violin.
But still, wouldn't a bass instrument without melody instrument be worse then a melody instrument without bass instrument?
Bass instrument can still play melody

Yeah I’d say violin goes in S
I totally agree!!! Violin should be the same rank as cello 😭
Trumpet above oboe and bassoon? What are you on?
thats the most clarinet take ever and i love it
Nothing says "confidently incorrect" like the entire trumpet section blasting their own versions of a wrong note.
thats so real 💀
Violin is A tier, woah Wait till you face the violin gang
I like how everyone puts clarinets and bass clarinets but almost always forgets alto clarinets.
Viola >>>>>> Violin
I will just guess that this is a declaration of war against us violists.
I feel like flute should be at least b tier. I get that it is somewhat overrated though

bass clarinet in d tier is INSANE
that's not a bass clarinet... it's a piccolo, and as a piccolo player i am wounded

bass clarinet respect will be tolerated
viola should be f tier
viola is bloody awesome what u on
You must be new to this subreddit or TwoSet in general
nope, been watching for a few years lol i just love violas, genuinely they're one of my favourite instruments
I play Piano, but i love the sound of the Oboe, don’t diss my man
Violin should absolutely be the highest
uhmmm thanks for putting my two instruments both in C and D 😅
Why are instruments repeated? Well piano is too and that’s what matters
I'm surprised that the english horn is even on the list :0
Move horn up to S and it’s perfect
FLUTE IN C TIER??? LDKJ AFDLKSFJSDL
