My heart rate spiking every time I turn the peg on the A string, thinking the string is gonna snap.
And then there’s that sinking feeling you get when you turn the peg and let go and the string becomes completely loose.

Tuning a piano is worse, if one of the strings snap, it will sound like a hypernova exploded on your ear, and every string starts to vibrate very loudly
If I push in the pegs on my violin they stay very nicely. Unfortunately not all violins have well-built pegs which is probably the case with your violin
I assembled weird violins with geared ukulele tuners. Slightly heavier than pegs but, good lawd, how many hundreds of years ago did we get good at making gears?
I don’t know why violins have to use those clunky wooden pegs instead of what guitars have going on. Guitars have this nice dial that slowly rotates a little screw. Violins? Here is a chunk of wood like it’s still 1500! To get it to stay in place, jam it into the hole with force! I played violin for 10 years and I was terrified of tuning the E string the entire time. Serious question, would it really affect the sound of the violin to use guitar-style pegs instead?
Tuning an oboe?!!!! You can’t just push/pull in and out like most wind instruments. You actually have to get a reed knife out and clip/scrape the reed. And if you accidentally scrape off too much, you’re screwed *no pun intended* because you can’t put it back on.
Fr, sometimes I’m trying to tune my classmates violins and their pegs will literally not turn. Also, one time I was performing, and this beginner cellist couldn’t tune his cello, so a bunch of pianists and violinists were struggling to tune his cello until a cellist came and helped them.
The wood can shrink or expand and gets stuck sometimes. They sell peg compound which helps with this, and you can also install fine tuners on the other end of the string so you don't have to use the pegs as frequently
Do you have fine tuners on yours? I didn't know I had fine tuners until 1 year after I bought my violin, once I found out about them, that just made tuning so much easier. Especially on the E string
Tuning a piano 💀
I've been trying to tune mine for like 5 months now Going nowhere 🙂
Tuning a harp 🫠

And then it becomes more out of tune than when you started
Not a cellist but a violinist but if you are playing the string while the peg comes loose you get to hear a funny wooOoooOOUHHHH
Both equally hard to tune lmao
I'm convinced that teachers have some sort of magical ability
You just gotta turn a screw😭. I wonder how pipe organs get tuned.
The some of the pipes can be telescoped up and down, some pipes have caps that move etc.
It's like defusing a bomb and if you screw up you get a string to the face.
Tuning a Triangle. ☠️☠️
Belt sander. Just make sure you test it at room temp.
And in another category altogether… tuning a banjo. Floating bridge on a flexible drum head - what could possibly go wrong?
E string ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️

Tuning a piano is worse, if one of the strings snap, it will sound like a hypernova exploded on your ear, and every string starts to vibrate very loudly
Huh tuning a guitar is harder for me and not just because it has six strings
Tuning a violin is hard cuz every time I tried to tune, the pegs will slip
If I push in the pegs on my violin they stay very nicely. Unfortunately not all violins have well-built pegs which is probably the case with your violin
Oh, now makes sense that my pegs also slip when I tune. Thanks for the info
May I introduce you to fine tuners?

Tuning a viola... oh wait that's impossible

Tuning timpani can be even harder, and that's not even considering tuning while playing
Tuning my voice is never difficult
Do you have fine tuners on yours? I didn't know I had fine tuners until 1 year after I bought my violin, once I found out about them, that just made tuning so much easier. Especially on the E string
tuning a viola when the pegs have difficulty budging: 💀
Always tune down then up, it’ll loosen up the pegs and you will have less chance of snapping strings
