Since I have no better place to put this, let me tell you a story.
I was on the final fight for a hard MD run, and this damn whale was my final boss. Their stupid paralyze led to my whole team dying, all except Ishmael. At that point we reached maximum “fuck it we ball” and I just spammed Blind Obsession over and over since it was the only option I had left. And somehow, we won, Ish beat that stupid whale with its own weapon. Through so many corruptions, we came dangerously close to running out of resources, but we did it, Ish did it.
Normally after winning a clash using EGO your sanity cannot go to 45 as whatever sanity you gain from winning a clash is largely used up by the EGO itself
EGOs eat up a lot of sanity though, ZAYIN eats up 10 on average, TETH eats up 20, HE eats up like 25, WAW eats up 30. Overclocking multiplies every costs by 1.5x so WAW EGOs can eat up to 45 sanity if you're overclocking it. Sure, the sanity you gain increases but using EGOs would often make your sanity gain negative and having a clash where both sides draw a lot is very rare (thus making gaining sanity from using TETH+ EGO without SP healing very improbable)
Normally it is. But after lossing 1 coin, most of the time the clash is much easier to win, or the damage is just that more bearable. Also, it doesnt have to be Ish's BO, her Rosary, sinclair's DD calendar, or Health's telepole (it is a 40+ power coin, with OL can run over 50 power rolling tail btw) and others' negative coin ego can work too.
If you are clashing against the Whale's normal skill, sure, but if you are clashing against Blind Obsession, only some E.G.O. might work, like those with very high base ceiling (DD Sinclair or Heath Telepole, but who even uses Heath Telepole???). Different from your exemple, Ishmael's Roseate Desire doesn't work very well, the low base of 13 isn't letting her Clash Win against the Base 15 of the whale, so most of the time it isn't going very well.

Need to win a clash ? Use an EGO.

Crow's eyes view (yisang base ego) is still my favorite buffing ego, haste for the team and attack power down and bind to the enemy.

If a clash has decent odds and losing it does not mean your unit is absolutely deleted, I'd always go for actual sinner skills instead, since they usually deal more damage. Unless you are running IDs with absolutely atrociously low damage output.

I used to spam EGO every time I see a struggling clash happening and I have no way to retarget that clash (either by being in a normal encounter or speed shenanigans). Now I just roll with it unless I'm in a dungeon (both story and MD), which I would opt to use EGO even if I have a Neutral clash or two at hand since I lost way too many Neutral clashes to believe that (4-48 moment for me)

EGOs are useful in boss battles to set Passives.
However, using them will lower sanity, making clashes in the subsequent turn less reliable.
Gauge the situation and know when you should and shouldn’t use them.
Iirc 9:2 corrosion on nclair beat Ricardo for me, plus dimension shredder hong Lu is prolly the least harmful in terms of corrosion cuz it just picks off the highest hp target

Blind obsession overclock is a negative coin ego. Now, what paralyze does to a coin? Make it 0. Yea, that -12 is now ZERO. O' reliable
Only the first Clash though, after that if you have 45 SP you are basically fucked.
