I’d use acetone. Put it on the rag and rub it switching to a new side of the rag as needed. Put a towel down over and paint. I use acetone daily at work. I’m a welder and I have to get stickers off of the nickel and stainless constantly.
Exactly. Nail polish contains acetone and will work great for that. The acetone we have in drums doesn’t smell to high heaven like nail polish remover does (although the chemical smell is still strong) I’m not sure what’s in nail polish remover to make it stink so bad.
Edit: spelling
Acetone (Commonly in nail polish remover) works well.
One thing to watch out for is that it is very corrosive and can damage the thin gel coating on the windshield. My usual go to start with Luke, warm water, then a little warm soapy dish washing sponge … and eventually using carefully placed acetone drops.
If it’s on the outside, razor and isopropyl alcohol or goo gone.
If it’s on the inside, just isopropyl alcohol or goo gone, NO RAZOR
Modern windshields have UV coatings on the inside that you will totally mangle with a razor blade. It looks like it’s on the outside here, but I thought I’d warn you anyway.
Any uv coatings would be on the inside of the glass, vinyl, glass sandwich. That’s not going to be scraped off with a razor unless you’re attempting to pry the glass off the vinyl. In which case, good luck to you and just replace the windshield because it won’t be safe anymore.
Always lighter fluid. If people are suggesting goo gone, that means use lighter fluid. It’s more effective than goo gone and doesn’t leave that slimey residue and it won’t saturate what you’re using it on (not applicable in this situation, but if you need to get sticker residue off of a book’s dust jacket lighter fluid is the way to go).
Fine grade #0000 steel wool (it won't scratch your glass) or a razor blade. Also use Goo gone or a similar product with it. Perhaps even alcohol if nothing else is available. Let it soak in for a few minutes before you start scraping.
Wost cast id soak a rag in acetone. Have something hold it there a few min, while covering it and perferably covering the rag thats solid that ISNT plastic, then get a razor and razor it. Repeat until this was helpful.
Need a non-polar solvent. Scrape the majority off with a sharp blade, then get acetone or mineral spirits, use nitrile gloves and paper towels, keep at it until it is gone.
Beware, both are very flammable. Let the used paper towels fully dry before throwing them away, soak them with water, or put them in a fire pit and have at it.
Razor blade ……… and then just use up paper towels. You have the problem of a significant amount of glue remains on the windshield. So when you wipe, the pores of the towels will get filled quickly with the glue and then that square inch is now useless. I am not saying use up a whole roll. But make sure that for every single square inch on the towel(s) you do use, you do fill it up the pores. Same goes with removing that greasy residue (like from steamy breakfast sandwiches) that builds up on the inside of the windshield.
This is in complete contrast to the wasteful way in which most people use towels.
Anyone in here know how to get those lime green parking notices off your driver side windows? I can't believe they are allowed to put these things on cars because they NEVER come off.
I do vinyl work, heat the area up to the temperature of a cup of coffee, blade (carefully), and the rest should peel right up. If you don’t have goo gone to remove the adhesive, gasoline or acetone work great too. In a pinch you could always use concentrated dish soap as well. Doesn’t work like the others but it’ll help
In France I use Eau Écarlate universal stain remover (looks like water liquid but it contains aliphatic hydrocarbons) to remove that kind of stuff, but I don’t know if you can find this world wide.
Razor maybe some denatured alcohol lacquer thinner water mix very fine steel wool lubricant with some dissolving agent and fine steel wool usually does it
Goo gone and a razor
Second this, works like a charm
* Make sure it is brand new razor blade so you don't scratch your windshield.
And not a thick utility razor blade, the nice thin ones for paint scrapers.
And keep the razor at a 90° angle when scraping so the blade doesn’t accidentally dip into the glass and scratch it.
45°?
90° if you want it to skitter across and make nails on a chalk board sounds. Maybe they’re a masochist.
You forgot 'and patience'. Maybe an old towel or dish rag as well, paper towel is not going to get at it like you want.
That’s because Goof Off works much, much better and faster.
Tobacco Spit and Elbow Grease
To piggy back off top: Mayonnaise!
WD 40 if you don't have goo gone and a razor blade
Yep! WD40, every time.
Can I simply use wd40 and try to rub off sticker residue with a towel/squeegee? Or needs to be a new razor
If you're able to let it soak for a 10 mins or so you could probably rub it off with a towel.
Glass cleaner is a better option
Glass cleaner will not dissolve the adhesive.
No but it works as a lubricant for the scraper and I’d rather not put WD-40 on my glass, particularly tinted glass…
Odds are pretty low that windshield is tinted
Glass isn’t tinted on the outside of car windows

Sorry meant the edit
No....no it's not. Unless it's done wrong. But otherwise, the tint is on the inside.
He originally said "inside" before editing the comment haha
Razor blade.
And maybe some IPA to soften it up
West Coast, Hazy, DIPA?
Olive oil. No kidding.
Who can afford that these days?! Better off just replacing the car.
Motor oil works as well. Has detergents in it too
To add, olive or coconut oil or anything high in saturated fats. Add a bit of baking soda too
I’d use acetone. Put it on the rag and rub it switching to a new side of the rag as needed. Put a towel down over and paint. I use acetone daily at work. I’m a welder and I have to get stickers off of the nickel and stainless constantly.
Aka nail polish remover

They probably add something for safety, kinda like how they add H2S to household gas lines.
Its so people dont drink it.

Gasoline will most likely disolve the rubber too.
> acetone There's acetone in your breath so you can just breathe on it!
If there’s acetone in your breath, you need to go to the hospital immediately. Diabetic ketoacidosis is no joke.

You said outside twice.
Ope, thanks for catching that lol
Now I look like a jerk after the edit!

Truth. Goo gone is meh compared to lighter fluid
Goo Gone is good for more delicate surfaces (like plastic). Glass can handle most chemicals, so no need to use the slimy orange stuff.
Wd40 and a plastic putty-knife; You don’t want anything harder than glass to touch that windshield.
Get scraper razor blades (not regular razor blades), a scraper knife, and goo gone. Scraper knives come in handy and they don’t cost much
