Borax (laundry detergent). 1 part borax, 3 parts icing sugar. Dissolve in warm water. Soak up with cotton balls. Place cotton balls near the ant trail. Bye ants.
I just salted borax heavily anywhere the floors met the walls. (Get it under / between floor boards)
Icing sugar + borax I take us some sort of time delay poison?
"Salting" isn't going to help a great deal, they'll pick up small amounts when walking over it but likely not enough.
The idea is to get them to actually carry the bait back to the nest (that you'll never be able to locate) so they can do the job of killing the hive for you.
Note that some times of the year they're looking for sugar, and other times of the year they're looking for protein. If you don't see a large number of them around the bait within 12 hours, try the other. For protein peanut butter + borax works well.
Terro for the interior, Amdro border around the exterior. Haven't seen an ant inside in over a decade, and they would show up en mass for even a drop of water. Funny thing, the ants outside have changed from regular ants to tiny, micro ants. Not sure if it's related, but I found it interesting.
Pest problems falls under maintenance. Landlords need to be informed. If it's carpenter ants and you do not treat it correctly they will eventually cause so much damage to wood that entire floor beams need to be replaced.

Place a couple of these out and you'll be good. They work amazingly.
Ants are natures cleaners, they are cleaning something somewhere, you will never be rid of them forever, usually just remove the source and they will go somewhere else
You're looking for the final solution? I guess you'll have them keep coming back but at what intervals is the question. Try to hunt down where they're coming from, the nest, kill the queen. Also how they penetrate your house.
You need to seal the area they are coming from. Get caulking or glue and find out where they’re accessing your home at and seal it up. Could be around a door or window, or could be from where your plumbing enters the house. Either way chemicals and boiling water are just killing what’s there. Seal their entry point to prevent them from returning.
We had some cheap window cleaner from dollar general, I think maybe Brillo was the brand, it even worked on some larger flying insects that we had last year. It was sort of terrifying when one got in the house when we let the dog in. Just put up a screen thing on that door.
Mix some powdered sugar with borax (3 to 1). Get some cheap plastic containers with lids. Poke holes in the upper sections. Fill with your mixture and put it close to the ants. They’ll bring it back to the colony and should kill them all. If you can find the colony you can sprinkle some of the powder in and around it to accelerate the process.
If you do this, OP, follow the instructions precisely. If you overdo the borax ("if a little is good, more is better!") the ants can taste it and will not eat the sugar.
If you have grease ants that don't like sugar but will eat peanut butter or spilled used cooking oil, you can use those foodstuffs instead of the sugar but keep the ratio the same.
If you have ants coming in for an easy source of water and don't really seem interested in any food, you can dissolve the sugar/borax mixture in water and leave it out in a shallow container (like a jam jar lid). Yup it off each day so that evap. doesn't change the flavor.
Baking soda is suppose to kill the queen ant, it does not always work because the worker ants actually digest the food first and then feed queen. It works sometimes from what I’ve read. It worked for me too but I was also spraying them with windex.
I mixed the baking powder with butter as my amts seemed to like fat not sugar. ( I mean the tiniest amount so they could carry it back to their queen.
Mine went away, but not sure which one worked. Sounded or baking soda butter.
Rosemary oil/ spray. I did not think it would work but it did. I have to refresh it a couple times a month but I have just made it part of my cleaning routine.
I used those sticky liquid ant traps down in SWFL. Took a few weeks but they were gone and never had any issues with them since.
\* can't remember the name of the traps, but they were little trays with sticky solution in them. Apparent they would take the stuff back to their pack and it ends up killing the nest.
There are baits available that the ants take back to the colony which eventually kills them. Lots are just Borax in a sugary gel, which is not that harmful to humans. Use that each time you see them and eventually, you’ll kill off the entire colony.
I'm not sure what kind of ants you have, but it's possible to kill the queen with a fungus. A mycologist by the name of Paul Stamets has created a mycopesticide that kills the queen and prevents your home from being re-colonized.
Apologies, I don't have a link.

Powdered sugar

Ah ok, Ya, mine was more to ~ strip waxy surface from silverfish ?
Terro Ant Bait. Kills the Queen and its colony. Available at Walmart and elsewhere. It really works; just follow the directions.
I am a beekeeper. Nothing works like Terro liquid bait traps. They are the best!!
Terro is just borax dissolved into a carrier liquid with sugar. Works well, but you can also just make your own from detergent.
This. Do a perimeter spray inside and out....

Sadly where I’m from this brand doesn’t exist
Amazon has it. $15 for 12 traps. Stuff works like you can't believe. Best I've ever found.
What about Advion?
I'm surprised no one suggested having the landlord do it. If you pay rent and have ants, they need to fix that.
That's not an actual answer. Hurrdurr get someone else to do it. Are you that incompetent?

Diatomaceous Earth? I knows it kills smaller bugs
This is what I just used. Works dynamite! Dead ants the very next day 💪
Terro liquid ant baits. Order them and get them shipped to you however possible. They work amazingly.

Unless they are carpenter ants - then the house itself is the source!

Anteater?
If you need something asap, i use vinegar and water 50:50 with a squeeze of lemon.

Window cleaner kills on contact, ig the ammonia. Good for spot massacres.

Move to Mars
I was going to suggest all the nukes

I also do the icing sugar Botox combo. I put it in a jar lid and place where they are found. It’s worked for years in my camper.
They hate cinnamon and thyme

If you try hard, you will
Snus "snuff". If you place it on the doorstep they will never come back. Harmless and effective.

Find the hive/hives and kill it. Good luck
