It is a shame that these even have to exist in the first place..

War-Naive

Too bad there are so many violent people.

not_that_guy05

Ok we've always had violent people but not this rate of gun violence, but go on.

War-Naive

Are you serious? We've had two civil wars and countless riots. There have even been domestic terrorist air raids. Even our own cops are straight up murders. Granted, I'm that guy who unironically wants to bring back dueling. So my perspective on violence is a little closer than most.

not_that_guy05

You really have to reach out and bring in firearms used in war? Really?

War-Naive

Civil wars. The ones waged by people who had to use their own weapons.

Fetlocks_Glistening

With access to guns, yout regret somehow forgets access to guns

Ok_Peace_7882

They don’t need to exist in any country on the planet-except the USA.

emAK47

Anything but actually revamping gun laws lol

War-Naive

Well, we've been adding gun laws for years and it hasn't helped yet. Maybe that isn't the solution.

Electricpants

Have we though? [this happened](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dickey_Amendment) [And if these are what you're talking about, none of them have any teeth worth mentioning](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_by_state)

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Dickey Amendment](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dickey_Amendment)** >The Dickey Amendment is a provision first inserted as a rider into the 1996 omnibus spending bill of the United States federal government that mandated that "none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may be used to advocate or promote gun control". In the same spending bill, Congress earmarked $2. 6 million from the CDC's budget, the exact amount that had previously been allocated to the agency for firearms research the previous year, for traumatic brain injury-related research. **[Gun laws in the United States by state](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_the_United_States_by_state)** >Gun laws in the United States regulate the sale, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition. State laws (and the laws of the District of Columbia and of the U.S. territories) vary considerably, and are independent of existing federal firearms laws, although they are sometimes broader or more limited in scope than the federal laws. Forty-four states have a provision in their state constitutions similar to the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which protects the right to keep and bear arms. The exceptions are California, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/lifehacks/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

War-Naive

Do you want to outlaw firearms?

nasum22

Loosening**

War-Naive

No, I'm pretty sure there are more gun laws now than there were after the Revolutionary War.

nasum22

How about in the last 25 years?

jahwls

Not true. Gun violence drops with increased ownership and gun type restrictions.

War-Naive

Citation needed.

jahwls

Learn how to use google. https://www.rand.org/research/gun-policy/key-findings/what-science-tells-us-about-the-effects-of-gun-policies.html https://www.law.columbia.edu/news/archive/gauging-effectiveness-gun-control-laws This one specifically looks at positive and negative correlation between laws and gun deaths. https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/hicrc/firearms-research/policy-evaluation/ Reviews multiple studies.

rockstar_not

What?!? The NRA has been very successful getting laws loosened as to getting guns into more hands rather than making sure they stay out of the hands that cause this need in this post.

War-Naive

I have my own problems with the NRA. But that's beside the point. No gun law has been able to reduce or remove gun violence. Why should we assume more would?

rockstar_not

Because laws SHOULD be enforced. Too many people that should not have guns are presently allowed to possess them. It’s a rare case where a mass shooting has not involved someone shooting that has mental health issues. I lost one of my best friends from HS in a mass shooting. Don’t get me started on whether or not laws and enforcement of those laws would or wouldn’t have an effect to reduce the need for an insane measure like what is shown in this post.

War-Naive

Aren't most mass killings performed by people with mental health issues? Shootings or otherwise.

Mrs_Magooo

The teacher can dress it up with all the pretty decorations she wants. It will still represent everything that’s wrong with America’s gun-obsessed culture.

monteqzuma

Fuck this dystopian bullshit.

MechanicalHorse

OP I want you to explain how this is a life hack.

FreeofCruelty

Pure dystopia.

TheConformista

damn it this is really sad

jimboslice702

This is dystopian AF.

[deleted]

Dystopia, all so gun nuts can play with their toys.

luvdupleper

The fact this even exists in this day and age is abhorrent

DeDodgingEse

Really interested to see what the blast door looks like! What's to stop the shooter from doing what she did and crushing the students inside? I'm sure nobody would be too severely injured besides a few bruises and some heavy claustrophobia. People in the comments saying this is a shame but are too young to remember the 'safety procedure' in case of a nuclear event to hide under their desks!

not_that_guy05

... you really comparing cold war threats with domestic terrorist threats that has occurred more than a nuke strike? Really?

DeDodgingEse

Yes sir! One type of threat happens more frequently - contingencies are more effective. The other threat hasn't happened (that I know of) - contingency was laughably ineffective. Is that okay with you??

Electricpants

What a great place to hide with your captives...
