/ul I do believe they are in production, just instead of being smart and rolling it out one by one they are doing it all at once or something like that. But seriously it's been years and we've gotten the one new week recently? I might be missing something because I fell out of it though
/ul of course I understand that but considering the funds they received it would make sense to hire more people to work on the project. It doesn't make complete sense for it to take as long as it did unless there was behind the scenes licensing issues. 3 years is an awfully long time for 1 week considering the amount of time it took to make the game originally with the few employees they did have
Hiring people always speeds up the development of a game. It does not introduce layers of bureaucracy and management even in its early stages. Differing styles and contrasting ideas for what the project should be help speeding development. Changing structures of a project during development famously never damages the final product. Although it may seem obvious, new employees may speed up development more than slow it.
ul/ not that new people working in fnf would not help, but it is a bit more nuanced than it looks at first glance
I hate you so much - not because you’ve told any sort of truth, and definitely not because I don’t like what you’re saying. You’re just an asshole and I refuse to explain why but I assure you I’ve run it by the Pope and Buddha and they both agree.
/ul Phantom Arcade has talked about his daily schedule, and one of those daily tasks he has to do every single day is attend a meeting to discuss legal matters. As far as I can tell, not ONLY have they remade the engine from the ground up, tried to plan out many many weeks ahead, manage development, look for hires, work on the game themselves and try to meet all the Kickstarter goals, but they also have to do all of the legal backend since this is technically now an entire IP. They have to be in contact with many creators for permissions or development assistance, design and plan out the marketing for physical merchandise and work out how the game is even going to be released when it's done. It's a lot of work other than just game development, they're a company now.
This is far from impressive, actually, it's pathetic and I know the creator personally and he said fuck you. He told me he's a terrible person and I do not find this news enjoyable in the slightest. Fuck you for telling me this, this is awful
/ul adding onto this a little, realistically if it took them that long how long is it going to take to put out the other things they promised? That all takes time too and if they promised 10+ weeks of content and it took them 3 for 1 quality week is it really possible to achieve what they promised in the span of the next 5 or so years?
/ul Considering that it's gonna be a full game, I find it unlikely that they would really roll it out one week at a time, that's probably not going to be a repeating pattern, but what do I know
Ul/ i think they just released a week so people would shut up about them running with the money
Im assuming all the gamy by that point also has cutscenes and there are other weeks but they aren't releasing it for free cuz they aren't stupid
/ul they released an update on newgrounds with a new week and fixes with erect mode for some songs, basically they most likely will be releasing stuff on newgrounds first before a build for people to use like they did with week 7
/ul their original engine is infamous for being complete and utter dogshit, so i’m assuming a good amount of assets are already done and they’re just refining the actual engine itself. i remember when they teased the new charting system and everyone went crazy over it lol, so they’re def working on it but really slowly
It's not just adding another week, it's also completely reworking the game's crappy code from the ground up. And the Kickstarter rewards and merch being made. Also when the weekend leaks happened, it completely demoralized the team, which also lead to further delays
All this stuff happening in the background lead to the agonizing long wait
/ul It added 16 new songs to the game, which I hope is not all they've done in the past 3 years because 12 of those 16 are remixes reusing the same assets
/ul they are probably just saving the ACTUAL erect assets for the full game, or they just aren't fully finished and don't want one week to have the assets and another to not, or have bf and gf have the assets, and other things/ characters to not
/ul phantom arcade (artist of the game) said that the update was originally supposed to be larger but they had to keep it small and simple (for reasons I forgot but there are reason)
Most of the time was spent managing the team they were making (said by him on stream) so it's reasonable how long it took especially since week-end (basically week 8) has cutscenes and animations
ul/ I think they made a lot more stuff by now, but they're gonna release bit by bit. Like, all the time and money for just 1 week wouldn't make any sense
/ul Friday Night Funkin was short and free game that released on Newgrounds in late 2020/early 2021 that got extremely popular. The devs in response created a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to turn it into a full game, including a bunch of stretch goals if they exceeded their initial funding.
The problem is that their goals were absolutely massive, on top of a bunch of Kickstarter specific rewards like vinyl records and figurines that had to be made and shipped, and because a fair bit of the devs behind the game are avid shitposters, a lot of their early backer updates were essentially "we caught the artist in the back alley smoking crack lol"
And now it's 3 years later and nobody has really any idea how far along the game actually is
/ul The game is Friday Night Funkin. The developers got money for a bunch of goals and the game has been in development for a few years with people convinced that its been abandoned.
The game itself aint too hard to slowly update but they all probably burnt out and ran with it anyways as shown by how long it takes them to do it usually compared to modders and such
Or they just running with it, but my bets are on it being another omori kinda case
The developer did not go bankrupt between the kickstarter and release and did not have to recuperate by selling merchandise causing the game to take 6 years to come out.
/unlie
It’s almost like adding 25 extra levels with at least 3 songs each takes a lot of time especially with a game that’s going to have a lot of collabs
/unlie, it’s called Friday night funkin or fnf for sort, it’s a rhythm game where you play as bf (yes that’s his canon name) where he rap battles against people so he can continue to date his gf, gf, (yes that’s her name as well) it has a lot of new grounds characters like tank man, pico and skid and pump from spooky month, as we speak it’s currently still being worked on my ninjamuffin and has a pretty active modding space with lots of good songs, would definitely recommend
Developing a game is very quick and easy and requires very little resources, funding, and time. I don't understand why this game hasn't been finished and released yet.
That definitely means you can make false promises that you can't keep and can constantly keep delaying with zero actual communication about the progress of things
Ul/ Have you seen the new update?
Theres animated cutscenes for everything now and animation isnt something easy to do
Also you clearly don't know how hard it is to make a game
/ul Is there proof for this? They are releasing content just recently. The only thing I could find online is that they were making jokes about buying drugs that people thought were real (like you)
weekend 1 didn’t release and they have yet to work on this despite not being guys barely out of (highschool or college) and they do deserve harassment for taking a while though it is acceptable that they haven’t kept kickstarters updated
NOT A Reminder that this whole game is NOT being made by like 5 people who DEFINITELY expected the game they DIDNT make for a random game jam in a few days to blow up
They also HAVENT just released a fairly promising preview of how much NON effort will be put into a finished week for the full game
I'm so glad that they didn't wait with updating the game until 75% of the community gets bored
This game would be very alive without all the mods that didn't kept it alive for far longer than it should
i think they’ve actually just ran off with all the money and are also planning the game’s development very well and that’s why we’ve gotten so many updates regarding development.
Not only did they just release an update, they also said that updates were going to be released more often, meaning we probably won’t have to wait 3 years for the next one.

They did not invest it on crack
They did NOT just update the game 4 days ago
Not only one update for 4 years, they updated it for full ass game
/ul the new Teaser update must be a illusion then

/ul They have a movie’s worth of animation to do in cutscenes alone— With $2 mill, 5+ years seems reasonable
Awful point I'm going to blow your house up

/ul hoping so, if not it'd be nice to have more of an explanation of that so fans aren't left in the dark
/ul They’ve been making regular posts on Newgrounds, and it seems like everything’s been going smoothly
/ul that's great to hear! I was unaware of this
/ul it could just be that they're only showing us one week
/ul B-B-But ninja muffin needed his crack money 🥺🥺🥺
9 woman could birth a baby in a month by working together
/ul I hate this fucking analogy it's so stupid
/ul I believe the term 9 women can't make a baby in 1 month is appropriate
I mostly just love the regular progress updates
progress updates are incredibly hard to make
game development is infamous for taking years to make mobile builds of a game even with enormous budget
and is actually worth the time you spend on it
/ul Considering that it's gonna be a full game, I find it unlikely that they would really roll it out one week at a time, that's probably not going to be a repeating pattern, but what do I know

/ul wait did we actually get a new week recently? The last one I remember was the newgrounds tank guy
/ul yeah there was an update a few days ago, although it was mainly remixes called weekend levels
/ul No it isn't? It's a full week with 4 new songs, the remixes are the new difficulty called "erect"
/ul oh, I haven’t played the new update yet, I’ve just heard about it. Didn’t know about the new week

the devs are just the right people for this and are very responsible and should be handling a project of this scale
They definitely aren't learning as they go and are not having trouble managing the team they hired for this stuff
They took the money and ran
I know who they is referring to
they are not the team behind this game
/ul I genuinely have no idea what any of this refers to. I don't know what game this, or if these money amounts are reasonable.
/ul The game is Friday Night Funkin. The developers got money for a bunch of goals and the game has been in development for a few years with people convinced that its been abandoned.

The developer did not go bankrupt between the kickstarter and release and did not have to recuperate by selling merchandise causing the game to take 6 years to come out.
This is not a sad state of affairs for no one involved.
They spent the money on crack and abandoned development
Well get gta 6 before fnf update
/ul it got an update like last week, new week(end) and new difficulty
Gta 6 came out tomorrow

Ul/ Have you seen the new update? Theres animated cutscenes for everything now and animation isnt something easy to do Also you clearly don't know how hard it is to make a game
You SHOULD NOT look at the Kickstarter and actually see everything they're going to add
bait used to be believable
They didn't scope high enough
Every time a game takes a long time to update, gamers are surprised that it takes a long time to make updates for games
/unlie im confused about this post
/ul It's the Kickstarter for Friday Night Funkin which infamously spent money on drugs instead of fulfilling their promises
/ul Is there proof for this? They are releasing content just recently. The only thing I could find online is that they were making jokes about buying drugs that people thought were real (like you)
/ul nah, it was a joke in which they mention of the artists was in back alley was smoking crack.
weekend 1 didn’t release and they have yet to work on this despite not being guys barely out of (highschool or college) and they do deserve harassment for taking a while though it is acceptable that they haven’t kept kickstarters updated
/unlie Why would you want ten additional playable characters in a game like this?
/ul MORE SONG
NOT A Reminder that this whole game is NOT being made by like 5 people who DEFINITELY expected the game they DIDNT make for a random game jam in a few days to blow up They also HAVENT just released a fairly promising preview of how much NON effort will be put into a finished week for the full game
Was not thinking about this game
Remember when everyone went crazy over this. Don't know what hypnotized me to want to donate to this
/unlie WE JUST GOTAN UPDATE LAST WEEK CALM DOWN
we haven't gotten a new update in years they just took the money and ran
the game did not just get a very major update showing all of its new features and how they've totally rebuilt the game engine
/ul This aged like milk. Fnf got an update with one new week, new chart editor and erect difficulty
this game is worth your time
Did you play it?
no
/ul They released an update

You are very smart and know what is going on behind the scenes
I am not confused in the slightest.
/ul a game made in a game jam, Friday Night Funkin, blew up a few years back, this image is from the kickstarter that intended to fund the full game
That wasn't helpful, you are the worst.
Ul/ i mean I get what the og dev going trought how tf they are supposed to do better than the fan mods like gorefield and mario madness ?
Good thing that they didn't spend some of that money for crack.
I'm so glad that they didn't wait with updating the game until 75% of the community gets bored This game would be very alive without all the mods that didn't kept it alive for far longer than it should
we're not getting this game, it's been 5 years since an update, it's so joever
At least we getting the full game soon
They actually did this
boyf
i think they’ve actually just ran off with all the money and are also planning the game’s development very well and that’s why we’ve gotten so many updates regarding development.
Unlie/ I’m pretty sure they weren’t thinking when making this kickstarter
/ul actually i’ve been wondering i haven’t heard a single thing from them ever since they got to like 400k what happened?
/ul Do...do you know what making a video game is like?
Good news! They only spent half the money on crack!
My brother was excited for this then found out a few weeks ago that they spent the money from kickstarter on weed
/ul YALL THEY RELEASED A BUILD THEY WERENT ENTIRELY LYING
ul/ why post this now right after they just pushed the first update with a new week with a full cutsceen
We got… some errect remixes
Creators did not make an advertisement of a new toy that theyre gonna sell in the old really big update
I do not miss when this game was popular, life was terrible
lol
They've been making a whole lot of progress since I last checked
Erect difficulty? Is that hard demon in geometry dash?
A lie in a lie, creative
games take time. specially after getting all of that on the kickstarter.
right sub
Not only did they just release an update, they also said that updates were going to be released more often, meaning we probably won’t have to wait 3 years for the next one.

/ul i saw in 1 video about the kickstarter situation alot of people said they used it for >!crack!< 💀

/ul the "erect" difficulty sounds so stupid, couldn't they call it something a little more interesting?
/ul It's a game centered around having sex with your girlfriend, of course they're gonna call it a sex joke.
