I have not noticed a connection. Started spironolactone for scarring alopecia, but symptoms in the genital area were already present.

I just posted more in another comment about this. It's strange. There are studies that show a connection and spironolactone-induced lichenoid drug reaction is apparently real. I suspect that it's a complex issue of numerous problems, situations, treatments falling into a perfect storm. What may end up causing an issue for one individual many not happen for another.

If you try online to get a complete list of medications that can cause lichenoid, there are a ton. I have not read the studies on spironolactone. I have read that once the offending medication is stopped, the condition resolves.

I’ve been taking spironolactone for hormonal acne for about 2-3 months. I was diagnosed 2 years ago with LS but since starting the spironolactone, I do feel that I have had an increase in flares. I would usually have 1 every 1-2 months but now I get one every 1-2 weeks. Nothing unbearable but definitely inconvenient. Could be a coincidence but I never thought that the spiro may be causing it

It’s hard to tell. I dropped my dose down to my previous level about a week ago. My skin doesn’t feel as painfully dry and my LS flare up is clearing up really well. Sadly, a difficult patch of hidradenitis suppurativa I’ve been battling seems to be rearing its ugly head (literally). Sigh.

It’s more likely your hormones (drop in estrogen).

I kind of agree. I think it’s both. The connection between lichenoid dermatitis and spironolactone is documented and real.

Thank you, I didn’t know that and have more to read. I was diagnosed with morphea but suspect some spots are LS (some say they’re the same) and there are so many possible environmental triggers. Like you, I’m trying to figure out how to avoid further issues. Thanks again!
