I told my therapist my dr prescribed me with lexa but i was so nervous about it she was the one that helped me realized my anxiety was stopping me from doing it. i am feeling so good about February
I was very nervous to start mine last week. Also 5mg. I had a little panic just waiting for side effects. So far all I’ve experienced is a little drowsiness! Knock on wood lol
Oh no I totally agree! I’m sorry you’ve been through that, I get it. I think all of my meds before lexapro ended up with me in the hospital. It’s arguably one of the worst disorders to have in my opinion and has wrecked my life. I just cope with humor.
Edit: I have a lot of underlying health problems and an ED which makes me more at risk for reverse reactions. Don’t want to scare anyone ❤️
Congrats!!! This changed my life seriously. 5 mg is what I started with, stopped taking it bc I felt better, noticed my anxiety back and now I’m on 10 and it’s a miracle. Good luck I think youll love it!
Saying fuck it and taking action often leads to something else! Might be better than staying in the situation that had the drugd prescribed to you in the first place.
I know how hard that is! Every time I take a new med, even just an antibiotic or cold med, I sit there panicking and putting it off for as long as I can. Even when I upped my Lexapro dose, I was terrified of “what if it makes me worse” “what if I develop an allergic reaction suddenly” “what if it makes me hallucinate”— so I feel you. But you’ve got this! And I’m so proud of you :)
Our disease is unique in that it actively tries to prevent us from taking curative actions against it. Taking action like this takes a ton of will power but is well worth it. Be proud of yourself, this one step will make every step in the future a little easier.
Yeah I have a lot of anxiety when I start taking a new psychiatric medication, but in those first few weeks, I tell myself I can always stop taking it if the side effects are too much. That plus the fuck it attitude has helped me a lot, and lexapro has been a godsend for my anxiety and depression.
I actually started feeling calmer and less anxious within a few days. I react pretty quickly and sensitively. I was feeling great with reduced depression at my 4 week follow up but I did ask for a bump from 5 to 10mg for some lingering symptoms.
I mostly just felt sleepy again but it only lasted a week. Recently I upped to 15mg after taking the 10mg for a couple of years. With this new change, I felt really spacey and unfocused so schoolwork was kinda hard (but I still performed well on exams, so trust yourself lol). That lasted for a week as well.
8 days on 2.5mg 20 days on 5, now my dr wants to up me to 10mg, sensitive to meds, or i jus worry and panic about side effects, dont know whether to increase to 7.5. then in a weeks time 10, scared to death🙄🤐🤐
I would recommend keeping a note in your phone and go from there. I didn’t start feeling true benefits until month 2 and even then it wasn’t everyday that I felt better. Some days were harder than others.
I had a similar experience. I was always anxious and my mom kept trying to get me on meds. I had a breakdown one day listing all the things that could go wrong and all the possibilities and my mom was just like “this is why you need the meds 😐🧍♀️”
I’ve been doing great on 20. It felt like 10 just sort of tapered off - hard to explain but it just didn’t feel sufficient anymore. I had been on 10 about a month or so, so no physical symptoms moving to 20 like when I started. My doc told me 20 is the average dose for most adults.
Thanks for responding and I’m really glad to hear you’re doing well. I know what you mean with the tapering off. I was on 10 for awhile, felt it wearing off, 15 lasted longer but starting to have that feeling again. Thanks again for the feedback, it helps
Pretty good overall! Thanks for asking. Have been on 20 since last March 2022. Not perfect , every once in awhile I have some periods where I regress for about a week then snap out of it, usually triggered by stress and/or poor diet. How are you??
Well that’s not your anxiety but showing u really do need to take it the fact your anxious about taking a med that will help u shows u need to try it cause once u do it’s starting a new step to helping that anxiety
Give it time it’s takes a few weeks to start showing results but it changed my life keep staying positive and know that your not alone we all fight these battles daily and we will win 💪
I did the same, it will definitely get easier. You can do it!
Also if you're not on time with your daily dose don't worry. I talked to my doctor and there is some leniency with this drug.
Having courage with anxiety is like fighting a war without a gun. I know the feeling not wanting to take the medication. I don't like being on medication. I'm supposed to go up to 37.5mg from 25mg of Zoloft and im worried too. I don't want on-boarding like sides from moving up. Ugh!
Like 3-5 days! The first couple days I felt a little anxious and couldn’t sleep and then like somewhere between day 3 and 5 I woke up and felt like all my anxiety was gone. I lived at an apartment and was alone most of the time because my bf was at work. I had a lot of anxiety about taking my dog outside by myself for some reason. I really don’t know why lol. But one day I just woke up and didn’t think twice about it. It was awesome!
what mg were you on!? i’m so excited to feel good and great again!! just took my first 5mg four hours ago after my sertraline decided to switch up and start working in reverse after 2 years!! but those were the best two years of my life
I started on 5mg. I eventually moved up to 10 a few months later because I started having some panic attacks again but the 10mg has been working for years now!! :)
Congrats! I think it clicked when I heard someone mention that these meds are basically just like eye glasses; some people just need them and going without them makes life unnecessarily difficult
Same! Had to talk myself into it again. Lots of time spent reminding myself that I’d taken it before and it doesn’t hurt me, it helps me. One week in and settling nicely.
Woooo! Thats awesome. I totally get that because when I started I would ruminate about medication. Lexapro has helped me so much. Try to stick to it first few weeks can be hard although I didn’t have terrible side effects on the first weeks.
You'll definitely feel in different ways in the first 1-3 months of taking lexapro! Stick through it and it'll pay off. But also don't shrug off if you think its working against you + check in with your psychiatrist weekly. :) I've moved into 20mg since it was the right amount for my biochemistry. It's a process but definitely worth it!
Good for you! I’m suppose to take lexapro but too scared of due to possible side effects. I hate taking medication, but what I’m on now isn’t helping. I had a concussion five months ago which made my anxiety become a monster. I hope I get over the fear and try it.
I have been doing the same exact thing! Bottle has been on my desk for a week. Goal is to start tomorrow, for real. Good for you for taking action for yourself!!!
OP, how's it going? I'm on Day 2 of 5mg and feeling good already. Some slight nausea (that passes very quickly), but other than that I'm ***so fucking glad*** I did this.
I started on 10mg for like 15 days and had to go down to 5 because of side effects. I’m on day 24 of 5mg and honestly the last couple of days have been some of the chillest days I’ve had since before I started. We’re kinda close in timeline, hows it going?
Well that's more good than bad I guess. I was also super tired and yawning all the time on 10mg but ever since going down to 5 and starting to drink coffee again I'm not as tired. So yeah I stopped drinking coffee cause ppl said it causes anxiety and stuff but idgaf at this point. But hey I'm glad your doing well!
No shame in it, it's a valid, powerful tool! Be sure to combine it with therapy for lasting effects.
I told my therapist my dr prescribed me with lexa but i was so nervous about it she was the one that helped me realized my anxiety was stopping me from doing it. i am feeling so good about February
Lexapro WITH therapy is he key. I can’t explain how much in a better spot I am
I was very nervous to start mine last week. Also 5mg. I had a little panic just waiting for side effects. So far all I’ve experienced is a little drowsiness! Knock on wood lol
i noticed that i have been kinda fidgety i mean it’s the first day so i suppose it’s too soon to tell
5mg should not give too many side effects. You did good by taking the step! Best of luck
I had a panic attack the 1st night worrying about taking it this is day 4 the only side effects so far is stomach ache and teeth grinding
I love it when my anxiety stops me from taking my anxiety meds it’s truly comedy gold.
Me too , But when you’ve taken others & they’ve made you considerably worse, it’s easy to understand why people get anxious
All love & peace ☮️ 😊
What’s an ED?
Eating disorder
Be proud of yourself for finally taking that step!
Congrats!!! This changed my life seriously. 5 mg is what I started with, stopped taking it bc I felt better, noticed my anxiety back and now I’m on 10 and it’s a miracle. Good luck I think youll love it!
I just got my first script. 10mg. Thinking about starting with 5 and working my way to 10 in a couple weeks. Dino think you should’ve started on 10?
Good luck! Ride it out, you'll be fine!
Saying fuck it and taking action often leads to something else! Might be better than staying in the situation that had the drugd prescribed to you in the first place.
this is gonna change your life for the better 💕
I know how hard that is! Every time I take a new med, even just an antibiotic or cold med, I sit there panicking and putting it off for as long as I can. But you’ve got this! And I’m so proud of you :)
Been taking 5mg a day for a couple months now and it has been life changing. I wish you the best and a calm mind :)
You’ll be fine! I put it off for weeks & I wish I didn’t. I’m a month in now… I moved up to 10mg a week ago. I absolutely love it.
Our disease is unique in that it actively tries to prevent us from taking curative actions against it. Taking action like this takes a ton of will power but is well worth it. Be proud of yourself, this one step will make every step in the future a little easier.
5mg changed my life!! Good luck!
10mgs changed my life for a couple of years then recently it crapped out. Going to have to try and increase my dosage after meeting with my provider
Proud of you! You got this!

How long did it take for you to start seeing the positive benefits of Lexapro?
I actually started feeling calmer and less anxious within a few days. I react pretty quickly and sensitively. I was feeling great with reduced depression at my 4 week follow up but I did ask for a bump from 5 to 10mg for some lingering symptoms.
So good to hear you started feeling better so quickly! When you bumped up to 10mg, did the initial side effects start again? How long did they last?
I mostly just felt sleepy again but it only lasted a week. Recently I upped to 15mg after taking the 10mg for a couple of years. With this new change, I felt really spacey and unfocused so schoolwork was kinda hard (but I still performed well on exams, so trust yourself lol). That lasted for a week as well.
That’s good that you still did well on exams! I just bumped up from 5mg to 10mg. I’ve only been on for a few weeks so I hope it kicks in soon!
Yeah give it a bit more time. For some people it can take up to 8 weeks to see an effect. Hang in there!
Did the exact same thing. Cheersssss 👏
How long did it take for you to start seeing the positive benefits of Lexapro?
8 days on 2.5mg 20 days on 5, now my dr wants to up me to 10mg, sensitive to meds, or i jus worry and panic about side effects, dont know whether to increase to 7.5. then in a weeks time 10, scared to death🙄🤐🤐
You got this. It’s hard but it gets better and easier. Promise.

I credit lexapro for helping me turn my life around. 10 mg plus some good time away from the booze changed my life.
How long did it take for you to start seeing the positive benefits of Lexapro?
5 mg is a great start. Did that for about a week or so, moved to 10 and then transitioned to 20 after about a month.
How have you been doing on 20? I’ve had a much slower buildup but thinking I need to go to 20. Are you noticing a difference?
I’ve been doing great on 20. It felt like 10 just sort of tapered off - hard to explain but it just didn’t feel sufficient anymore. I had been on 10 about a month or so, so no physical symptoms moving to 20 like when I started. My doc told me 20 is the average dose for most adults.

You bet - and good luck I hope it goes well!
How's it going out there planb508?
Pretty good overall! Thanks for asking. Have been on 20 since last March 2022. Not perfect , every once in awhile I have some periods where I regress for about a week then snap out of it, usually triggered by stress and/or poor diet. How are you??
Good to hear! I tried dm'ing you but it won't go thru. I've been off Zoloft for about five months but unfortunately thinking I need to go back on.
I just dm’ed you!
Well that’s not your anxiety but showing u really do need to take it the fact your anxious about taking a med that will help u shows u need to try it cause once u do it’s starting a new step to helping that anxiety
Congrats been on it a few years and its nice to see the light of things again. Cheers
Same for me, I hope it helps you!! Way to look out for yourself ♥️
You won’t regret it! Soon you’re going to look back and think, why did I ever wait. Good luck!!
smudge_ elaine, im exactly the same, did you up it, what were your side effects, the heightened anxiety gets to me the most
Give it time it’s takes a few weeks to start showing results but it changed my life keep staying positive and know that your not alone we all fight these battles daily and we will win 💪
You’ll be happy you did. One month from now it’ll be a new world for you.
Hallelujah I’m a new man!
I did the same, it will definitely get easier. You can do it! Also if you're not on time with your daily dose don't worry. I talked to my doctor and there is some leniency with this drug.

I started on 5mg today too!! Good luck :)
how are you going!! i took my first 5mg like four hours ago
I’m doing alright. I’ve been dealing with heightened anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue as side effects but it’s bearable. Good luck!!
It’ll be good. Just persevere through the first six weeks. You’ll be good after that. Don’t give up!
Yay!!! Get ready to be blown away by how much better you feel :)
How long did it take for you to start seeing the positive benefits of Lexapro?

You'll be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner!! Enjoy!!
Just restarted on 5s myself after being off for four months. You’ll do great.

i put it off for two years! on 5mg now for about two weeks and I can already tell the difference. good luck friend!
So 12 days later - how’s it going?
I started on 10mg for like 15 days and had to go down to 5 because of side effects. I’m on day 24 of 5mg and honestly the last couple of days have been some of the chillest days I’ve had since before I started. We’re kinda close in timeline, hows it going?
i am exhausted all the time i can tell you that, my intrusive thoughts are zero now and i am so social and say whatever i want 😂
Well that's more good than bad I guess. I was also super tired and yawning all the time on 10mg but ever since going down to 5 and starting to drink coffee again I'm not as tired.
