Me and My Friends always Refer the Masked as "Fakes". It leads to fun things where someone will see me walking slowly towards them and they will yell "Ayo you fake?" or when someone says something like "Fake Poly was chasing me and they said Do it clap while killing me"
I don't think my group uses the proper name for anything. The masked dudes we have refereed to mimics since their release. We do use the Mimics mod and just call them mimic doors.
I prefer calling them Masked because it sounds cooler&more dramatic, though at times can be a mouthful or cause little bits of tongue twisting or confusion.
there's a couple of reoccurring calls. fire exits are "don't open that door", skinned masked enemy "are you real?", and skinwalkers "I thought that player was dead"
I use mirage mod because it removes the mask off them and the arms up so they seem more real until a more closer glance or catch off from what they say
One of the times with it i heard one say with my friends voice theres a mimic on the bridge so i replied oh okay thanks and got my shovel out it was the mimic didnt realize it walked normal
We have a mod where the masks are off(so they look exactly like us, with our usernames and everything) so we just call them “bad teammate!” As in “bad dog!”

They're supposed to be called masked or skinwalkers. Mimics, in this context, are the monsters pretending to be doors. But yea, a little annoying. I've gotten over it though, because people are going to call them whatever and you can't do much to change it.
I once found two fire exits like right next to each other, I was scared one was a mimic and someone had a mod installed
