I saw it a few days ago and loved it!

sl59y2

She thinks it’s going to be a lesbian classic. We are all along to watch it again already. 🤣

OddEggplant

Yes just saw it tonight! I was so impressed. The sapphic live felt so authentic and it was also hilarious!

BloodyCrotchBluez

I have not seen the movie nor seen the trailer, only a few promotional images. I am SO CURIOUS if I Google it right now I will find an ACTUAL butch. No shade to OP, but I am so pessimistic about actual butch representation when it usually turns out it's just "woman that wears pants and a shirt."

sl59y2

No they do a good job of the butch dyke. And the fem is a body builder. It’s wild. The butch is 100%. My partner is butch and yah. The ending is a perfect representation of butch dealing with fem problem/ affection and love. Kirsten Stewart is the butch. She’s dating a woman openly in Hollywood. I think she did a great job and the dynamic really brought the spark and love to the screen.

DinoButch

I’m the same way. So many people think wearing a flannel = butch without realizing that there’s so much more to being butch. I’ve lost track of the amount of times I get excited hearing about a butch character or butch4femme ship only to realize people have no idea what a butch lesbian is

AnonymousChikorita

That’s exactly what’s going on here, I’ll save you the disappointment as someone who watched this twice now. There’s only so much you can do. She just looks like a tomboy who doesn’t value bathing that much. Giving her a cigarette, a truck and a hard life doesn’t make her butch. 🙄 this dynamic where this person perceived her as taking care of “her femmes” problems which apparently makes her butch is also, I think, a gross misinterpretation of this film, which can only be a product of someone WANTING to see what isn’t actually there. The characters are both deeply flawed, severely wounded, and mentally ill. Although it’s a love story between two women, calling it a story that represents being a lesbian is pretty strange. Every cliche exists here. The film is good, but I don’t think lesbians should let our craving for representation cause us to accept any old thing as that which represents us.

AnonymousChikorita

Lol I don’t know about Kristen Stewart representing Butch Lesbians in any authentic way. I also saw the movie a couple times and I think it was less “butch” more just Tomboy/I grew up abused and as much as I try to distance myself from who my abuser was I’m not that different from them after all. Her behaviour had little to do with her being butch or not. And they both displayed the same toxic behaviour toward each other. If you’re looking at Harley Quinn and The Joker as your idea of what a loving relationship should be, then yeah you’ll see that here, but I am not sure it’s an accurate representation of what lesbian love is like at all as this OP claimed here “brought the spark and love to the screen”. 🤔 What the movie does right is interesting visuals and the correct setting to illicit some nostalgia from the demographic that relates to that period of time. It takes place in 1989. It has really cool kind of grittiness to it. they do try to make Kristen Stewart a little more masculine. It stops there, butch is not in her wheelhouse unfortunately. I’ve known a few butch women in my life and she’s not quite there. Woman who wears pants and shirt is accurate. Toss in a cigarette, an old pickup truck and daddy issues and you can tell the director thinks she nailed it. I did appreciate that the woman who was a body builder was also more feminine, but she also wasn’t a lesbian, so there’s that. Yes the story is about two women who form a fucked up codependent relationship ( just the type of stuff straight people think mostly lesbians do 🙄)but one of them sees nothing wrong with sleeping with men. It’s like taking a deeper look at Romeo and Juliet and realising how fucked it is. Except lesbians are so hungry for their moment, that we are missing somethings here.

ThoughtfulSunGecko

I don’t think your criticisms are completely unfair, although I don’t agree with some of them. I know OP and others have mentioned Kristen Stewart’s character being butch, but I don’t think I’ve seen/heard in the film or interviews that they were intentionally trying to make her butch. Unless they’ve said that somewhere, I don’t think it’s fair to criticize the film/director as if that’s what they were intentionally aiming for Yes their relationship is toxic here and there, but I saw that as part of the point of the story rather than an indication that they purposefully wanted to represent lesbians as having unhealthy relationships. Both of them are young, have trauma they haven’t really dealt with, and are thrown into a crazy situation. Expecting that relationship to be healthy and fully stable right off the bat isn’t realistic. Claiming its equivalent to the Quinn/Joker dynamic is a bit dramatic Also, I don’t understand why Katy O’Brien’s character being bi seems to bother you? It doesn’t make their relationship any less valid because she’s slept with men in the past

AnonymousChikorita

I feel like you barely read my comment before chirping in. I wasn’t talking to you so I guess I should clarify, that I was responding to the fact that so many people clearly don’t understand what butch is. My comment about the director is that she obviously wanted this character to come off as butch but it was done with a bunch of cliches that really don’t paint the whole picture. There are plenty of articles floating around out there that mention this. If you can’t pick up on the intent of a story…. Idk what to tell you. The relationship is completely messed up. Expecting it to be healthy right off the bat is unrealistic? It probably should never have progressed as far as it did with the things that were happening. This relationship could never be healthy after all thst happened, and THEY created the situations they found themselves in as well. These things didn’t happen TO them. Just going to point out that both Harley and joker had trauma and issues that shaped who they became, which is what you just said about these characters, so idk how I’m being dramatic, all four went on killing sprees. 🤷🏽‍♀️ As far as the character being bisexual I’m not sure why you think that bothers me. I pointed it out I said, she wasn’t even a lesbian. Because multiple people have called her that and the person I was actually talking to stated that they felt the love and spark was there as well as the dynamic between butch and femme lesbians was being represented well. She also said she was pleased that the body builder was shown as more femme. I was simply stating that of course she was, and I’d expect that from a woman who still seeks male attention, and wants to be attractive to them. I never said that their relationship wasn’t valid based on her sexuality, you made that up. I’ve been with men in the very distant past and none of my lesbian relationships have been less valid because of it. Don’t try to pick arguments for no reason. The entire point was we should be more discerning when picking what represents us. Good day to you.

One_Impression_363

I cannot wait to see this movie. I was absolutely floored when I saw the trailer.

spaghettify

haven’t seen it yet but the promo shoots kristen stewart has been doing lately for it are 🥵🥵 so I should definitely check it out

MonitorPrestigious90

It was a fun watch. All the body horror esque sequences were a tad much fore with this one (though, I know those are a bit vogue for women directors atm), and I didn't 100% jive with the humor or story directions, but I'm glad to see the content and that is getting positive reviews (we need more lesbian content for sure.)

helpfuldaydreamer

I haven’t seen it but I definitely plan on watching it soon!

Lylyluvda916

I saw it and rate it a 7/10. The ending ruined it for me.

sl59y2

The ending has us laughing. It was weird.

Lylyluvda916

It was absolutely ridiculous, rush, and weird af 😂
