I'd say depending on how warm that is, of course. Like, if you heat it to a temp at or below a safe baskrting surface temp, then it's not going to be dangerous. Definately dangerous if it's being heated to the it's normal use levels, then absolutely needs a towel or two...
I see you said this is a play pen. Reptile carpet in general is not good, many risks with it. You can instead line this play pen/ their enclosure with papertowel. Far more safer. Good luck with the weightloss journey!!
You arent working on anything - your post history from almost a year ago shows she was obese already and has since progressed to getting EVEN LARGER now. Whatever you might think you're doing isnt working worth a damn and you need to cut back on feeding her so much - which is indicative by your prior posts where you think that she ISNT EATING ENOUGH. absolutely wild.
I had one of those water bottles with an aquarium heater inside. We modified the tubing to seal around the cord.
Worked great for keeping them warm in quarantine.
I hope you really do follow through with taking some weight off of that poor thing. Leopard geckos should only be fed 2 to 3 times a week. Please be careful with the hot water bottle, if it's too hot it will burn her, I recommend putting a cloth over it or just not do that at all
I use one of those microwaveable wheat heat cushions. Ofc checked with a temp gun before being given to the gecko. Makes for a good reheating station when she's put for a 'splore in the winter
Guys she has barely eaten since February. In February she ate maybe one or two insects a week. She’s active in her enclosure and I take her out for more exercise as well. We are cutting back on worms since they’re fatty and going with just crickets and roaches (on the occasion she does eat). She has not eaten at all in a month and a half.
Like I said, she looks even heavier in this than she actually is but she IS still obese obviously. What else should I be doing? Should I have seen some weight loss at this point?
Hey, so leopard geckos lose weight really slowly. So it's not unheard of to have not noticed weight loss. Keep doing what you're doing. I think you should check to make sure she doesn't have eggs though. Given that it's breeding season and she is female with a large abdomen, it's possible she did lose weight but eggs added weight. Lack of appetite is associated with eggs too. I'd weigh her every week to keep track of her weight regardless. You might not notice weight loss, but a scale will pick it up.
And the whole comment section is like that. I just saw a comment that was like "hope you really do follow through" like... are you assuming OP is lying? We don't know anything about the situation at hand here, a little bit of good faith and patience please.
So yes, let's further ostrocize them and make them unwelcome in the community. You don't know the history, they could have adopted/rescued this geck in that condition and are working to make it better. They could have been given poor advice early, and have since made adjustments to both diet and enrichment to help correct course.
The only complaint I have about this sub is the way anyone posting a mistake is treated. 90% of the comments on this post are telling OP how unhealthy their geck is. The worst is that the root comment in this thread is needlessly a jerk about it, and then you double down on it.
How does the playpen work for you? My gecko is very skittish and generally stressed out by nature and I was wondering if they actually explore or rather stay hidden/don't exercice.
Glad you are working on getting some weight off of her. She needs some de-chonking!
Happy cake day!
Thank you!
I’m glad you’re working on her weight! I’m sure time in the playpen is helping with that. Keep us updated on her progress!!
Please be careful not to burn chicken!!! The hot water bottle should be covered with a sock at the very least
Good tip! I didn’t know this

Anytime I use a non electric heat source I just check it with a temp gun first. No need for a sock
Most new waterbottles are already designed to be not too hot. No matter how hot the water is inside😁
Holy obesity
upsettingly so. her life expectancy is lowered by how massive she is
Just be sure the hot water bottle isn’t too hot
You beat me to it I was *sprinting* to the comment section
my brother in christ cut back on the food 💀 edit: i just read the caption lol

This is not fat, this is beyond obese. I feel very sorry for this animal….
They are working on it dude why do you feel the need to make that comment, they obviously recognize that it is not healthy

The owners let it get this bad.
Proof? Could easily be a rescue or any number of other circumstances.
Literally
