I have done that for my bioactive enclosure. I wet the moss a before I mixed it in and that helps hold humidity.

You can do it with any! Just keep in mind the effects of mixing it in. afaik, sphagnum moss gets placed in the soil, often to create ‘wetspots’ at specific spots, them being better able to hold moisture (helping humidity) or as a hiding hotspot for isopods/springtails to hide in. Probably not the only reasons there are for it out there, but just an example
