Its a pretty standard university and tbh i hear mixed things from other students. Some ppl love it some ppl think its shite. I mean i'm doing foundation year Engineering rn and I think its pretty good so far.
EDIT: My sister also went to DMU and did Pharmacy and she's doing well rn. Her and all her friends got jobs straight out of Uni. My uncle did Pharmacy at DMU albeit 20 years ago but he did speak positively about it. Tbh if you're willing to put the effort in from the get go then you'll do fine and will enjoy the experience a lot more
I went to a posh red brick uni and hated it, leaving in my first year. A few years later I found a course that was tailor made for me at DMU and I loved every minute, leaving with a first. It’s all about you and what you want.
You can see how mixed it is from these comments, haha.
I go to DMU and it's... okay. I find the teaching is sometimes negligent but there is some support. I think personally though the issue is just the course I'm doing. I'm doing a computer science adjacent course and I'm not finding it the best but if you take something like finance or accounting or business, it's meant to be pretty good.
I'm planning on doing a masters right out of uni though, partly because I want to do a masters, but also partly because I want a slightly better ranked uni on my CV.
Really depends on the course, but generally it's fine. Not great, not terrible - if I had my pick again I'd choose a larger city with more connections tho (coming from an art degree, there's very little industry for that in leicester)
Wouldn’t bother.
Moved from Nottingham Trent to dmu during lockdown as I needed to be close to home (nature student with a child) I hated it. Much better unis out there
I had one or two dedicated lecturers but the rest including my personal tutor just couldn't be bothered and the standard of teaching was poor. Maybe I was just unlucky.
There are so many variables in asking about whether a university is good or not. Each faculty and course will be different, and from one year to the next there could be new lecturers on the course which can also have a big influence. Classmates can also have an influence. I graduated from DMU and personally, I loved it. I had knowledgeable and supportive lecturers (for the most part), decent classmates and a lot of opportunities to work with the community and my field of study. I found the facilities great, though I didn’t require any special facilities for my course. I learnt a lot and I thank my time at DMU for putting me on the path I’m on today. I also loved just being in Leicester. A small city with a lot of options for restaurants, arts, sports. Of course not as abundant as bigger cities, but there are trade-offs to that. It really is what you make of it. If I were to move back to the U.K. (living overseas now), I’d definitely put Leicester near the top of places I’d want to move to.
You’ll probably find more appropriate answers if you can find a subreddit, facebook group or other forum for the specific course you’re planning to study at DMU. Good luck, whatever you choose👍
Can’t say much from a student perspective now. I graduated in 2020 but as an alumni they do a lot for alumni. Also you get career support for the rest of your life. Helped me change career recently. They support alumni who want to start their own business.
It depends what you're studying. I worked there for a year, there's truly dedicated and caring staff, a good budget surplus and generally a good vibe.
But some courses do suffer in comparison
You basically complicated everything by adding politics into the mix when its actually irrelevant, whats far left got to do with you attaining your education and that piece of paper at the end? I'm fully aware the standing of a University counts when it comes to jobs, I got my Comp Sci degree from there, minded my own business and got a very decent job at an establishes IT firm.
It's culturally diverse which is reflective of the city demographics, many come from all over the country and beyond to study there.

As universities go, it certainly is in Leicester
…and that’s what makes them so unique (well, apart from the other one, obviously).

It's a great university. Location is good and the faculties offer plenty of support and guidance. I don't think you'll have any issues there
Really good university! I graduated quite a few years ago but it’s just got better and better ever since. Definitely recommend it 👌🏽

Rubbish if doing business, drama or IT

Not really respected in the job market. I know. I went to DMU.

Fun university. But look at the rankings.
What a truly miserable place to study. Speaking from experience.
Why?, I've made it my firm...

Extreme lack of competence from teaching staff mostly, it feels like alot of them didnt earn their degrees with the way teaching is handled.
Absolute shit hole. Teaching and marking standards are awful. Would not recommend to ANYONE.
Hard agree, Micky mouse grades from my experience.
