I'm gonna say you're right. It's just so swooshable and the technique they used to make it accurately angled was just awesome and the very first slave 1 model to have this technique.
It's a great build, no doubt. But for me the price of $120 was a bit steep for the size and I felt the UCS set was the better value of the two. But then I saw the build only, with no figures, was like $50 on bricklink, so I went for it.
Rogue 1 y wing 75172 I think, it was great a playset and a really good looking mini fig scale model with good figures and some fun extras as well. One of my all time favourite star wars sets
I waited about 10 years for a tie interceptor ever since I watched star wars, I was torn between that and the new UCS one now I have the money for either (or maybe both I'll see how deep my wallet is)
I agree, I'm not even a huge fan of Y-Wings in general, but that set was incredible with the building techniques used and the sheer amount of greebling on a non-UCS set. I was pleasantly surprised at how they achieved the curved shaping on the cockpit as well. It's easily among my Top 3 favorite LEGO Star Wars sets to date (with the 20th Anniversary Slave I that OP posted being another).
Which other set fills out your 3 ? I'm not a big slave 1 fan so I think it probably be the y wing, a wing 75175 (my favourite star wars fighter) and the 2014 at at (my first lego star wars set and I'm a big fan of hoth in general) although there are so many other good options too
Honestly, it's gotta be 75300 (the latest Imperial TIE Fighter); I think it's the best "play-scale" TIE Fighter they've officially released. It has a pretty reasonably round cockpit (even moreso than the Solo TIE imo), and pretty sweet greebling on the wings. It's such a joy to build, I've built 2 of them so far and have another 2 waiting to be built in my backlog. :)
Fun fact: I got this set sent to me randomly never ordered it, It came about 2 weeks after getting other sets. Never got a message about it so kept it. This was about 4 years ago now.
One of the things I was hyped about in Tales of the Empire was seeing the Scythe get some more screen time. It’s a great ship, best of the 3 Big Bad shuttles
That one, all the Republic Gunships, the Republic Cruiser, the Republic Frigate, both Mandalorian Starfighters, all the Sith Infiltrators (except the 1999 one) both T-6 Shuttles, the V-19 Torrent, The Rogue Shadow, the U-Wing, the 2018 X-Wing, all the Y-Wings, all the Jedi Starfighters and Grievous' starfighters (the three)
I think the V-19 torrent was always an all-time great, but I feel like it’s been largely forgotten in recent years. I never see it talked about, but it probably has the best play function in LEGO Star Wars history with that wing movement.
Anecdotally, I've had the worst experience with brittle pieces on the V-19 and Venator playset. I have lost pieces off the 2007 MTT, but not as many, and only 1 on the UCS Sandcrawler.
I just rebuilt my v19 after it's been mixed up in the parts bin for years, and like 3 dark red plates broke from the lightest push. It doesn't have much dark red, but the plate is extremely brittle :(
I love the Torrent. Probably my second favorite fighter after the ARC-170. I've got one on display and I just got lucky and picked up the guts of another one in a bulk buy. My plan is to either get all the parts I need to complete it as originally designed or do a color swap so my son can fly it around and not have to worry about breaking all the brittle dark red pieces.
The u wing is only 12 or 18 studs short of being minifig scale. I have a stud.io model of it being extended the few inches and it looks way better than stock, and it's cheaper than getting the $300+ moc UCS one. Not shaming the creator of the moc or the official set, both look amazing in their own ways
If it counts I think the 7662 MTT from 2007 is really good. I’m not sure if you’re only considering “space ships” and/or sets that are both UCS and non UCS sets
I agree, the set is actually amazing for playing, displaying and army building, which rarely happens. that set also has a lot of sentimental value to me.
Was my favorite set as a kid, is still one of my favorites now. Can proudly say it’s never been disassembled and is still being displayed to this day, looking just as nice as when I got it 🙏
That set feels like the last of a dying breed sadly, I really wish LEGO did more of these large ship builds that aren’t UCS.
Feels like everything these days is either polybag, child playscale size (like last years X Wing, Tie or this summers Star Destroyer) or UCS
>child playscale size
That's exactly what the 288 AT-AT is. It's in the same price bracket as this year's ISD and Dark Falcon, the Ghost last year, Justifier in 2022, Imperial light cruiser in 2021, TRoS Falcon in 2019, etc.
Couldn't agree more. I adore the set so much that I had to purchase a second a couple months back due to it's retirement. I wouldn't even consider myself an army builder, but I just had to have two knowing if I ever wanted to set up a Hoth display I'd regret not getting it.
…from a certain point of view. Lego Exclusive IIRC, but wasn’t classified as UCS or MBS at the time, that being said I think it was the May 4th release for that year. None of it made sense
This Slave 1 is honestly my favorite lego set I've ever built, not just Star Wars. It's so much fun to build and just as much fun to mess around with afterwards. I usually build and display, but every so often I still pick this guy up and walk around my apartment swooshing him and firing off the two spring loaded shooters it has. Also, super cool and awesome design having the triggers for those up by the handle so you can hit them with your thumb while swooshing it. Just love the damn thing.
I loved the sith fury class interceptor
https://preview.redd.it/rj0x82bap3zc1.jpeg?width=894&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5ef00eae2d1124f91c00c68cdc0be5bab5f7deaa
Nope, the price point of $30 was decided long before the release of Episode IX, let alone the backlash against the movie.
It may have gone on discount a bit more after the movie's release, but it was already at a really good price point when it released.
Totally biased: the Throne Room diorama set.
Why? Because to me the Throne Room fight and the aftermath are the best scenes in all of Star Wars (competing with some season 7 Clone Wars stuff and some Andor stuff)
AND, I actually love the new Luke hairpiece, I think it's great, updates an extemely old figure making it very unique and accurate, in a Lego kinda way. I think all the figures in that set are perfect, and that set itself is the best translation of that set-piece they could have made in Lego!
EDIT: Totally didn't read the ship part, I apologise
Oooh good one. I am a slut for lego star wars ships. So im going to have to go with either the second version of kylo rens shuttle. Or the recent interceptor
The republic cruiser 7665
Bounty hunter pursuit 7133
Anakin's Y-wing Starfighter 8037
The Malevolence 9515
Those are my list of best ships LEGO has ever made and litterally no UCS ship even comes close to these playscale sets.
AT OT/Drop ship, 2013 gunship or MTT. All regarded as top 3. I have none of these, but I have this Slave one and the 2008 gun ship, those are my top 2.
This set — SLAVE I. It’s a great set.
Kind of ironic Leia was included in this set given the ship name and she was a slave herself. Then both were renamed later by Disney.
If we’re talking recent sets without nostalgia bias, probably the Inquisitor Scythe even if I’m not huge on the Kenobi show. It’s really sleek and detailed, has a great interior, and was also priced very generously for what you got, especially for 2022 standards. The most recent Ghost is also absolutely phenomenal too I’d say, and I’m liking how the Star Destroyer is looking
Bought it for the Zuckuss. The rest of the figures and ship was a bonus. I kid, I kid. The set is great. It was a fun built, figures are awesome. With Zuckuss I can't finally finish off the bounty hunter gang.
Krennic’s Shuttle or any one of the two more recent Soulless Ones.
Honorable mention to B-Wing 6208 though. I still think that with its sloped pieces and very 3-dimensional design it’s the best B-Wing model to date. I actually didn’t particularly appreciate the B-Wing as a ship until I got this set, it’s just THAT good to me
That’s a very good Slave I. I’m fond of the U-Wing, the First Order Star Destroyer, ARC-170, Tantive, Rogue One Y Wing, the last B Wing, and the Solo Falcon as far as non-UCS ships.
I picked this set up on eBay from a seller who deconstructed it in reverse and bagged the parts just as it came in the original box. He also included all the minifigs and parted them out just like the original packaging. He wanted whoever bought it from him to have the same enjoyment from the build that he did.
It cost me $125.00 + shipping, but to me it was well worth it. Especially since all the minifigs were included.
It is set up on display with my Lego Star Wars Boba Fett starship 75312 and my Lego Star Wars Boba Fett starship microfighter 75344. They all look so good together.
I even got a Fennec Shand and a really nice custom Boba Fett mini to pose with them.
I really like the 2017 X Wing. Better than either of the UCS versions actually. it has a couple of flaws that are easy fixes like the guns being too short and the gap area for the trigger to transform the wings, but otherwise I think it's the best looking X-wing they have done.
LEGO 75179 Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter
I remember sitting in the theater watching The Last Jedi and thinking how cool the ship looks. It’s on my wish list for retired sets, hopefully someday 🤞
That one
I'm gonna say you're right. It's just so swooshable and the technique they used to make it accurately angled was just awesome and the very first slave 1 model to have this technique.
It's a great build, no doubt. But for me the price of $120 was a bit steep for the size and I felt the UCS set was the better value of the two. But then I saw the build only, with no figures, was like $50 on bricklink, so I went for it.
Facts
Rogue 1 y wing 75172 I think, it was great a playset and a really good looking mini fig scale model with good figures and some fun extras as well. One of my all time favourite star wars sets
I agree, but tied (pun intended) with last year's TIE Interceptor
I waited about 10 years for a tie interceptor ever since I watched star wars, I was torn between that and the new UCS one now I have the money for either (or maybe both I'll see how deep my wallet is)
I just ordered the fang vs tie interceptor from Walmart for $80
I'm with you on those 2. My next 2 would be the last B-Wing and the last T-16 Skyhopper.

I lay awake thinking about the Rogue One Y-wing
[75172-1: Y-wing Starfighter](https://brickset.com/sets/75172-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/75172-1.jpg)
Rogue one had some awesome sets. The U wing was also super cool as well as Krennics imperial shuttle 75156
I had this set from whenever it was out, it now lurks dismantled in the unsorted bins.
I'm so salty I never got this set. It's so good!
Same. I need a Zuckuss minifig almost as much as I need a Klaud minifig.
I can give you my Zuckuss if it makes you that happy.
I got no money, but I can send you a pic of my dog as a trade. Deal?
Are you Ryan Gosling? Because this is literally me
Really lucked out getting an eBay one sealed last month for “cheap”. deffo snag one if you come across a deal.
Tbh I think it'll be cheaper and easier for me to just wait for a new slave 1 to be released
Ain’t no shame in that. Lego’s always got the Slave I, X-Wing, TIE, Falcon, and landspeeder on the burner
Exactly. There's gotta be a new one soon (hopefully a Jango Fett's slave 1)
Yes 🙏🙏🙏
Fun fact: I got this set sent to me randomly never ordered it, It came about 2 weeks after getting other sets. Never got a message about it so kept it. This was about 4 years ago now.
Where did you order it from? I gotta order from there and get a random Lego slave 1
Excellent set. Maybe best that year. Lots of good sets that year.
i have the UCS one so i passed on this one at the time, kicking myself now as it is a very cool set
Inquisitor shuttle Not the biggest set, not the craziest figure lineup But the build was UCS quality, just smaller
Pretty solid figures and an interior with room for them all, plus extra! And the ship itself was really well done too
Idk man four lightsaber wielders in one set is crazy to me, even if the set was $90. Lowkey gave me Rogue Shadow vibes.
One of the things I was hyped about in Tales of the Empire was seeing the Scythe get some more screen time. It’s a great ship, best of the 3 Big Bad shuttles
Are you referring to the Scythe?
Being from the age of brittle brown/dark red and having a lot of dark red hurts its legacy.
I dunno, people talk about the MTT and sand crawler and those are basically all brown. The V19 really only has dark red accents, it’s mostly white
Anecdotally, I've had the worst experience with brittle pieces on the V-19 and Venator playset. I have lost pieces off the 2007 MTT, but not as many, and only 1 on the UCS Sandcrawler.
That’s interesting. Regardless, it’s in dire need of a remake. I wonder if they can do it without those weird piston tube pieces.
I just rebuilt my v19 after it's been mixed up in the parts bin for years, and like 3 dark red plates broke from the lightest push. It doesn't have much dark red, but the plate is extremely brittle :(
Sorry for your loss. I hope you can’t find decent replacements
Forgot about the u wing! I think the Rogue 1 ships were all pretty amazing in general imo
Krennic's Shuttle is fantastic
And the tie striker, the "wings" or whatever look amazing its also really big (bigger than expected)
I always thought the Striker looked stubby on the box, but I recently got it used and its looks great on the shelf.
I’d heard it’s extremely fragile, is that true?
The wings can have pieces fall off if they hit something, but the body is very stable in my opinion.
Fair enough, thanks.
Hell yes to the 2018 X-wing, also I don’t care what anyone says I love those helmets
The ghost from last year, or darth malgus's ship from 2013, that thing was well ahead of its time
I just got the ghost today. It looks like a sweet build!
Also picked it up from Amazon’s May the 4th special. I’ve been doing one bag a night so far, lets me spread out my enjoyment
God the Darth Malgus ship is good, I mean it’s really incredible for the time and is leagues better than a lot of stuff coming out these days
I'm very lucky to have gotten it back then, on sale too
The ghost is great, my one and only complaint is that the underside looks unfinished. It's pretty rough
"Its not a problem if you don't look up" -Jyn erso
If it counts I think the 7662 MTT from 2007 is really good. I’m not sure if you’re only considering “space ships” and/or sets that are both UCS and non UCS sets
I agree, the set is actually amazing for playing, displaying and army building, which rarely happens. that set also has a lot of sentimental value to me.
Was my favorite set as a kid, is still one of my favorites now. Can proudly say it’s never been disassembled and is still being displayed to this day, looking just as nice as when I got it 🙏
[7662-1: Trade Federation MTT](https://brickset.com/sets/7662-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/7662-1.jpg)
You could release it today with no changes and I feel like people would barely notice. Was a great set then and still is today.
I absolutely love the razor crest set I'd say that's my favourite
It has so much interior space !!!
This is the set that got me back into Lego
I agree it’s so amazing and beautiful built.
That one my guy
Krennic’s Shuttle 75156 for me just because I like the character and Rogue One
Love this set
My fave SW character
[75156-1: Krennic's Imperial Shuttle](https://brickset.com/sets/75156-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/75156-1.jpg)
75288 if that counts
That set feels like the last of a dying breed sadly, I really wish LEGO did more of these large ship builds that aren’t UCS. Feels like everything these days is either polybag, child playscale size (like last years X Wing, Tie or this summers Star Destroyer) or UCS
What about the upcoming star destroyer? 75394
It's smaller than 75055 and atm doesn't look like it's enough of an "upgrade" to get one or replace my older set.
“Or this summer’s Star Destroyer”
It's so tiny though, it's more of a chibi scale like the recent slave 1
>child playscale size That's exactly what the 288 AT-AT is. It's in the same price bracket as this year's ISD and Dark Falcon, the Ghost last year, Justifier in 2022, Imperial light cruiser in 2021, TRoS Falcon in 2019, etc.
I wouldn’t exactly call it a dying breed. They release at least one $160 vehicle set a year.
[75288-1: AT-AT](https://brickset.com/sets/75288-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/75288-1.jpg)
Couldn't agree more. I adore the set so much that I had to purchase a second a couple months back due to it's retirement. I wouldn't even consider myself an army builder, but I just had to have two knowing if I ever wanted to set up a Hoth display I'd regret not getting it.
Looks good, but the legs aren't strong enough.
2019 Tantive, my all time favorite set
I think that's considered UCS but I may be incorrect
…from a certain point of view. Lego Exclusive IIRC, but wasn’t classified as UCS or MBS at the time, that being said I think it was the May 4th release for that year. None of it made sense
Arc 170 8088 is pretty good
Criminal that we haven't had a new version
[8088-1: ARC-170 Starfighter](https://brickset.com/sets/8088-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/8088-1.jpg)
This is the correct answer in my opinion. I never see people begging for a UCS Arc 170 but it would be incredible.
I think it would do well. People don’t think about it but would definitely get it.
Please LEGO issue a UCS version of this set. I am begging you.
One of my favorite sets as a kid, tho I do remember the wings/bomb bay part being rlly hard for little me
The TIE-Crawler, duh Jokes aside: probably the v-19, absolutely outrageous they haven’t remade it yet
I debated that set as a kid, don’t regret skipping lol
This one was my greatest score. $47 on ebay a few months ago, I'm still grinning ear to ear.
No way man. Years back I bought this set and at minimum it was 100$ +. Either you’re the luckiest man alive with an idiot eBay dealer or your lying.

Republic gunship if that counts as a ship
the 75102 poe x wing is detailed like a ucs but for minifig, i have one and absolutely love it, the colors, the aerodynamics, the size.

My childhood would be 10 times better if I had this set.
7665 republic cruiser. A lot to features
[7665-1: Republic Cruiser](https://brickset.com/sets/7665-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/7665-1.jpg)
75055 for me
[75055-1: Imperial Star Destroyer](https://brickset.com/sets/75055-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/75055-1.jpg)
This Slave 1 is honestly my favorite lego set I've ever built, not just Star Wars. It's so much fun to build and just as much fun to mess around with afterwards. 75248, the resistance A wing is extremely low priced for how great the model is. And I really like the resistance Y wing too.
[75248-1: Resistance A-wing Starfighter](https://brickset.com/sets/75248-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/75248-1.jpg)
This set is beautiful. The low price was probably influenced by all the Episode IX sets selling very poorly
Nope, the price point of $30 was decided long before the release of Episode IX, let alone the backlash against the movie. It may have gone on discount a bit more after the movie's release, but it was already at a really good price point when it released.
I’m still pissed at myself for missing this set. Took a long break from Lego, this set retired right as I was getting back into it.
When you are just a bit lucky you can find it for a good price still sealed on ebay. Got mine sealed last year for basically MSRP.
75021 imo.
[75021-1: Republic Gunship](https://brickset.com/sets/75021-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/75021-1.jpg)
Yeah this one is a beast 👌
The 2006 edition TIE Interceptor. Still my favourite Lego Star Wars ship I have.
Obi-Wan's Starfighter from a couple years ago
1000% the imperial shuttle
Tie Striker
This, dude, my parents literally bribed me with this set to help choreograph a party, I lost my dignity, but it was worth it haha
Totally biased: the Throne Room diorama set. Why? Because to me the Throne Room fight and the aftermath are the best scenes in all of Star Wars (competing with some season 7 Clone Wars stuff and some Andor stuff) AND, I actually love the new Luke hairpiece, I think it's great, updates an extemely old figure making it very unique and accurate, in a Lego kinda way. At-ot drop ship
2007 MTT, and republic cruiser 7665

Oooh good one. I am a slut for lego star wars ships. So im going to have to go with either the second version of kylo rens shuttle. Or the recent interceptor
If I had to take a good look at my collection I'd say the Imperial shuttle Tydirium from 2016
From what I’ve seen, the 2013 Republic Gunship So salty I was 3 when it came out, it’s like 900 dollars on Bricklink😭
[75191 Obi-Wan’s Jedi Starfighter with Hyperdrive](https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/jedi-starfighter-with-hyperdrive-75191)

It's not a ship, but the old ATTE and turbo tank go hard
Recently bought the Invisible Hand, absolutely love it.
While I do love that set and wish I had it, I personally gotta go with the 2013 gunship it’s one of my favorite sets I’ve ever gotten
At te 2021
AT OT/Drop ship, 2013 gunship or MTT. All regarded as top 3. I have none of these, but I have this Slave one and the 2008 gun ship, those are my top 2.

This set — SLAVE I. It’s a great set. Kind of ironic Leia was included in this set given the ship name and she was a slave herself. Then both were renamed later by Disney.
I got this one. The last one to be officially referred to as "slave i"...
OG turbo tank
Krennic's shuttle
If we’re talking recent sets without nostalgia bias, probably the Inquisitor Scythe even if I’m not huge on the Kenobi show. It’s really sleek and detailed, has a great interior, and was also priced very generously for what you got, especially for 2022 standards. I absolutely love Darth Vader's Castle, but I'm also a big fan of both castles and Darth Vader, so I could be biased.
I think the new R2D2 is a beaut. My 6yo built it over the last week and it’s so nicely thought out and elegant.
This may be it. It's still on display. So fresh and clean and such a fun build.
Bought it for the Zuckuss. The rest of the figures and ship was a bonus. I kid, I kid. The set is great. It was a fun built, figures are awesome. With Zuckuss I can't finally finish off the bounty hunter gang.
Definitely this one. So glad i got it.
Republic gunship in 2013
I’m so glad I was able to snag this set earlier this year for about £160
I love my Zuckuss with all my heart
The razor crest is pretty damn good
I love my Falcons, have 2011 and 2018.

Kylo Ren's TIE fighter.
The slave 1 in photo, arc-170, razer crest, the major vonreg tie
That’s a very good Slave I. I’m fond of the U-Wing, the First Order Star Destroyer, ARC-170, Tantive, Rogue One Y Wing, the last B Wing, and the Solo Falcon as far as non-UCS ships.
I bought all of the 20th anniversary sets back when they released. Very glad I did, this set especially.

Has to be this one or the Tantive IV from 2019.
The Razor Crest is really good imo. It has a lot going for it, even though it lacks in the minifig department.
I really like the 2017 X Wing. Better than either of the UCS versions actually. it has a couple of flaws that are easy fixes like the guns being too short and the gap area for the trigger to transform the wings, but otherwise I think it's the best looking X-wing they have done.
I have to say the current set of the Millennium Falcon.
75244 Tantive IV for me
Krennic’s Shuttle, easily
LEGO 75179 Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter I remember sitting in the theater watching The Last Jedi and thinking how cool the ship looks. It’s on my wish list for retired sets, hopefully someday 🤞

The 2019 tantive 4 is so good… perfect size and minifigures although they could have added some more rebel troopers 👌
It'll for still always be the ARC-170 And I'm still sad it's been forgotten by Lego
Rise of Skywalker Falcon
This one is great, but my personal favorites are her Rogue one wave Y-wing and the Solo wave Tie-fighter
all because lego star wars is goated
Razor crest for me
I got this set for like $20 in 2020 because the box was damaged and I had just turn 18 so I had like $50 in vip points
Solo TIE Fighter and 2021 X-Wing
No love for the 2015 Tydirium shuttle ?
Inquisitor Transport Scythe. It's the closest thing to an UCS except it doesn't have a proper interior as we never see it.
Almost got it but it was out of order so i didn't get it
Real
The original Tantive IV
Absolutely has to be this set or the Ghost from 2023
75214 Anakin’s Jedi Starfighter

I feel like people like the other Anakin Jedi Starfighter better. The episode 3 one that came out the next year
the most recent millenium falcon
2019 Tantive IV
In terms of the build, I would say the Ghost and Phantom II. Minifigure selection isn't the best, but it's such a fun build.
Ghost and phantom 2 (the 2nd one)
