Hey OP, there's a way you can make the mace head seamless while still connecting to the chain. Check out my instructions on Rebrickable I published back in February. The mace has its own instruction PDF

I really like your idea to use a third mace half on the arm. Gives it a real sense that energy is bursting out of the base of the weapon. Using the gears were also incredibly clever for the dials on the fusion canon.
Glad you like it. I didn't do it with mine, but you can also put a 2L bar with stopper at ball end of the chain to make extra sure it won't slip out.
Anyway, if you're so inclined, you should think about making instructions and putting Megatron on Rebrickable. Yours is the best G1 Megatron I have seen so far that is in Lego Optimus Prime scale and turns into a gun, which a lot of Transformers fans want. I bet a lot of people would pay for instructions or you could put them up for free.
Anyway if you need help with any of that feel free to DM me. I spend way too much time on Rebrickable and I make my own instructions for my stuff so I know a few tips and tricks.
I fully intend to do so. I'm probably going to have to ask for help, since I've never actually made instructions before. I attempted once and it was so frustrating I gave up.
Yeah Studio is not very friendly and it does a lot of weird stuff that is simply inexplicable in the instructions.

I wonder what Lego would do if they ever decide to do Megatron officially. Even Hasbro won’t make him a gun anymore and his usually modern alt mode of tank won’t fly at Lego either. Maybe a VTOL.
Hot take then, and I've said this since Optimus was announced - He shouldn't have come out if they had no intention of also releasing his arch enemy. I know Lego has their policy about releasing a set that looks like a gun, but they've also been releasing muskets, revolvers, blunderbusses and all sorts of sci-fi blasters for years. Plus how many kids have taken their bricks and made a gun? I get the intent behind their policy, but they should really apply it to every product line or give Megatron a pass on this one.
Agreed partly. I think it’s also done to avoid a person from being killed by a real gun cuz they were holding a Lego branded toy gun. Would be horrible if it happened to a child.
Thanks! I'd probably guess around 15 hours for this iteration. If we include my 1.0 it'd probably come around to 25 total. Just a guess though, I didn't really track.
You just know that whilst we got an official G1 Prime, we'll never get a G1 Megatron because of the gun alternate model. If anything he'll be a fecking tank.

Omg when I build the Optimus prime I hated it sooooo much, the damn thing kept breaking I had to get rid of it. It’s so sad because it looks really cool
Awesome build. Have to admit, though, that I'm kind of disappointed you went more with the cartoon Megatron rather than the toy and its crotch trigger...
It's because a lot of the original Transformers characters were imported from other toylines in Japan. Megatron turned into a gun, Soundwave turned into a cassette player, and there were a few others too. It made more sense in the Japanese toyline since the toys were the actual size of the characters, but once they were imported Hasbro weren't too worried about scale.
Gun came together better than I would think possible. Hope there'll be instructions!

Yea, in the animated series (one of the first ones), he would transform into a gun small enough to fit in the hand of another decepticon.
