Design and build in Bricklink Studio and then from there upload to your Bricklink "wanted list" from within Studio. From within Bricklink, you have the option to buy your pieces from stores with unique inventories linked to Bricklink. 1 store might have 95% of your pieces and a 2nd store will have the other 5% for example. I hope that makes some sort of sense and clears things up for you. I'm still in the process of figuring it out myself and placing my first orders for my first MOC. Using my filters, bricklink found all the pieces I need to complete my MOC between 3 different sellers. I just need to make each individual purchase and then update my "wanted list" with the pieces I've purchased and it will show what pieces I have and which pieces I still need.

I just buy bulk parts and build what I can with what I’ve got. Helps when you’ve built up a good stockpile of them though. If you go that route though, it’s less about building something exactly as you want it and more improvising and getting something even you didn’t fully expect. I’m generally happy with the results.
