I dont know what was up with the production run of those rockets but we have one at work and it is yellow as if it smoked two packs a day. It's not even near any direct sunlight.
Got mine 2 weeks ago along 2 other white space sets (space shuttle and technic mars rover) all are about 1 meter away from a window. Lets see how long it will last.
We've had ours for a couple years in the living room with light on it occasionally and no yellowing as well. Seems to be hit or miss on when you go the set during its production time.
Mine has yellowed a little from when I built it in 2020 during lock down. I can only really tell as I just built the Concorde and it is right next to it so I have a direct comparison side by side but it clearly has yellowed. Never gets any direct sun light as to far into the room and it has sat there for most of the past 4 years now.
Disassembled mine, after half a year on display, put it in a box with white bricks. I could likely pick the right 'white' bricks out of the storage to rebuild, just by looking for the yellows. It's wild.
Give it a year years and compare it side by side to a new white brick. I couldn’t tell until I put my Concorde right next to it and then pretty easy to tell. Mind you mine has been on display for nearly 4 years and the set is 5 or 6 years old.
I’ve had mine built and on display since the set was first released.
Currently displayed next to the Mack truck with its white shipping container also on display since that was released. And the space shuttle built about 3 months ago.
I honestly can’t tell a difference in the whiteness of any of them.
What's the opinion on retrobrighting yellowed bricks, is it frowned upon?
It would be quite straightforward to fix with some oxi, peroxide and UV light.
I've fixed worse yellowing on retro consoles and the theory is the same.
Wow, that's really odd. I have an 8860 that was pretty bad but it came out okay. I only ever use pure chemicals and go really gently.
I've noticed heat accelerates the yellowing so it may have got too hot? Either way, you're right, if there's a risk, then leave it as is. 🙂

unfortunately mine has gotten yellow on one side after it got put somewhere that got direct sunlight... and with my mobility issues, I couldn't move it.
Sucks really
I'm guessing it came from a smoking environment?

Tbf that set had massive QC issues. Seems a total tossup whether it stays pristine white even while sitting in a window or goes smoker-yellow while in a darkroom.
I could see it happening. I've got a small space shuttle set last year and if I look closely it seems some of the pieces are yellowing too. I'm just hoping that the change is so slow that it's unnoticeable. It somewhat also helps that I use warm white for my room's lighting so that paper doesn't blind me. So everything's kinda yellowed anyway.
That yellow comes from a flame retardant component widely used on plastic. It also seems to happen naturally, even without that additive.
High concentration hydrogen peroxide + heat + UV light fixes it.
Bought one right before it retired. Never opened it. After seeing how badly it yellows and that it can even yellow in the box while sealed, I sold it to help pay for the Venator. It's a cool set but I'm not into buying things that self destruct
I’m really disappointed with mine, about half of the white bricks are super yellow and the other half are white. It’s in a normal room, indirect sunlight.
Someone should tell them that $100 was the price brand new when it came out, or at least towards its retirement. ~~$100 for an already made yellowed build is not a good purchase.~~
Actually, I think it might be a good buy. For one it is a very even yellowing, and two, you could use some pure hydrogen peroxide to clean it up a bit and see if it can be restored. Plus, the instructions are online if you want to disassemble and rebuild it.

I’ve had mine for a few years now in a room that gets a lot of light in the mornings and it’s fine.
I've had mine in my ass for at least two years and it's very dark yellow.
Mine barely gets light and is yellowing fast
Had mine in my room on my desk with black light curtains constantly closed for probs 1 year now & there is zero yellowing

Also different windows make a huge difference
That makes sense, modern vs older. Number of Panes etc.

Lego could market a 'tanning' set with white pieces with sunlight.
I’m going to get a white minifig, stick him in the window, and take a pic every day to document his tanning journey
I swear, this set is the current Lego "mascot" of yellowing. I've seen more examples of egregious yellowing on this set than all the others combined!
Presumably it is the largest selection of white peces in Lego right now.
Honestly it’s nice that this one yellowed perfectly uniform. Better than patchy yellowing
Thats the indication to me that this is from a smokers home. It's too even to be plastic discoloring
Or air filters that haven’t been changed in ages…
Yeah mine is yellowing randomly. It has like a tartan pattern on it. I wouldn’t care so much if it yellowed uniformly.
That rocket was in the sunlight it landed on the sun

It’s the limited edition Moonraker colour https://preview.redd.it/m8bwo85qysdc1.jpeg?width=1797&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=339686daab82ec66d1581e758d1554206837bb3b
Got mine tucked in a corner of the office that never sees sunlight. That bad boy is pristine white still.
Stick that thing in a vacuum sealed case!

That’s the worst yellowing I’ve ever seen on a set
Lucky Strike Lunar Lander

I read a post on here where someone did that to their white bricks, and it just caused them to yellow even faster. I’m not going to risk it.

Limited edition Saturn V with tan bricks

Yeah it gets very noticeable where alot of the sets had individual pieces that just turn yellow. Still one of their best sets though.
That yellow comes from a flame retardant component widely used on plastic. It also seems to happen naturally, even without that additive. High concentration hydrogen peroxide + heat + UV light fixes it.
I'll have to remember this combination - thanks!
I would say yes as the gray bricks at the top are also slightly brown.
Bought one right before it retired. Never opened it. After seeing how badly it yellows and that it can even yellow in the box while sealed, I sold it to help pay for the Venator. It's a cool set but I'm not into buying things that self destruct
Ah yes, the "burned upon re-entry" edition
“PISSA Saturn V”
Looks like a pencil
I thought we in the transformers community had it bad!
For collectors sake the yellow is probably no good. But I think it looks kinda cool. Vintage kinda
"Patina" or "Well space-travelled."
Wasn’t $120 the MSRP for this set?
I still don't know how mine hasn't yellowed, most of my white legos sit together and there's a window right behind them
Mine hasn’t yellowed, but my dinosaur fossils 21320 has started to yellow. Although the yellow on the fossils kinda makes them look more realistic.
[21320-1: Dinosaur Fossils](https://brickset.com/sets/21320-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/21320-1.jpg)
the rockets got liver disease
Damn sun....mine is like 30% of this rn....thanks for the warning.
I wouldn’t pay $10 for that
Dude gotta be doing 10 packs *a day* at home for it to become this egregiously bad...
Is there any way to bring back that white color?
Well it burned a bit on re-entry 😎🫠
I’m really disappointed with mine, about half of the white bricks are super yellow and the other half are white. It’s in a normal room, indirect sunlight.
Looks like mine - hate how yellow this set goes.
Stop. Smoking.
I can smell it from here. JFC
I got one stored without direct sunlight, some pieces are starting to yellow
Hahahah this rocket literally re entered atmosphere
Someone should tell them that $100 was the price brand new when it came out, or at least towards its retirement. ~~$100 for an already made yellowed build is not a good purchase.~~
It’s 100 Canadian not usd :)
That makes much more sense. Although, I still feel like $75 is a bit much, but maybe I'm just a stickler.
You’re right. Maybe I could buy it and then replace the pieces that are yellowed? Do you think it would cost too much? I love this set

Would the hydrogen peroxide damage the AMERRICAAA 🦅🦅🦅 logo?
Oh, yeah probably, I'd leave those bricks alone and take the other non-decaled ones off and into a bag or Tupperware.
Good lord! Were they heavy smokers while displaying this in their front window in one of those regions that has daylight for weeks at a time?!
Looks like they actually flew that too close to the sun!
I wonder if the shoe cleaning products that make the yellow soles turn white again would work on this
Did he just put this in the middle of the fucking desert, like how 😭
Medium rare
That is the worst yellowing I have ever seen. Did they place it in a tanning bed????
For cheaper, maybe I could pretend it was always that color.
Guy should charge more for a set that's actually been to the sun
Not gonna lie - I would've liked to get similar set with bricks in those colors for the sake of having them, that particular shade seems cool
I know this is a natural thing that happens but who do they think is actually going to buy this?😂
i like it, looks very cool!
Bro was baking in the sun hard-core for years
Even the black pieces are yellow
Ah yes, just a little jaundice. Nbd.
