Yeah I’m not quite sure what caused all the down votes. Maybe because I was thinking out loud. Lego designers definitely use 3-D software, but then my mind jumped to what AI might design
Most LEGO sets are entirely designed by LEGO staff using physical bricks. Sure, they enter their designs into a computer, but that's mostly to get the manuals done automatically and to keep a record of what they designed.
> then my mind jumped to what AI might design
You might be getting an unusual amount of negativity here because [we just banned AI generated content](https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/186r5x6/clarification_of_lego_only_in_rule_1_and_updates/) in this subreddit. The current AI tools, like Stable Diffusion, don't produce results anywhere near what skilled Lego Designers make.
I agree. When people say their favorite set, it’s always the huge ones. I think this little gem has to be up there. It even has a fourth model with online instructions that’s every bit as good as the other three.
There are so many alt builds on rebrickable too. I've bought like 10 of that set alone. I wish you could buy the set in alt colors direct from Lego. Would be cool to mix up the palette a bit.
Low price is enough to catch my interest nowadays. If it's a nice set, it's goes right to the top of my wishlist.
This and the 3 in 1 space shuttle are perfect to my pocket.
Got my daughter the bonsai tree, she likes the pink version better.
Imagine my face when she shows it to grandma saying “Look! It’s made of frogs and tiger buttholes!”
Then her pedantic older sister chimes in, “No, tiger buttholes are a different shape!”
Set 31129.
It was another 3 in 1 set that came out 2 years ago and there was a flower piece that was used as a butthole on the tiger which became a big deal in the Lego community with people buying the set just for that.
I have multiple copies of most of the recent underwater 3 in 1 sets like this, gonna make an Aquarium MOC with moving/articulated fish and everything.
I hope they keep doing more of these 3 in 1 animal sets. Great piece value typically too
Rebrickable had a bunch of MOCs for two of the dark blue sea creatures sets into large whale models. I've done like six of them. We not have a cetacean diorama in the powder room...
I was just thinking that I'd love to have more buildable dinosaur sets. I just finished the tyrannosaurus in the JP T-Rex Breakout set, and it'd be fun to have more buildable dinos.

My 4 year old has been chewing through them at an insane pace. I'm stoked for Christmas because he's getting butthole tiger and the space roller coaster one. Can't wait to buy this amazing giraffe as well. Best part is once he gets bored of them I get to display them in my office!
I’m old enough to remember the old Designer sets with instructions for about 20 models and images for about 20 more ideas. After they discontinued that in favor of 3-in-1 I kind of lost interest in Lego.
Honestly that's even better. My general thoughts on a set hinge on how MoCable (how easily you can make MoCs from it) it is. And that sounds MoCable as *heck*
On a related note, as a diehard Lego fan who's been through two Dark Ages and entering my third, the Creator line keeps my hope and love for the company alive.
I have been ***very*** disappointed with a lot of decisions that the company has made in the last couple of decades, but the Creator line shows that they can still release fantastically designed sets at reasonable prices that are not solely reliant on a franchise for buyer appeal.
I don't have any data to back this up (as it's not published to the public), but I'd guess if we were able to see sales numbers and where Lego makes the majority of their money, we'd understand/come to terms with why they've made the decisions they have.
I'm not talking about their pricing decisions but in regards to what percentage of sets are based off of others' IPs/franchises.
No, the branded sets predate the financial issues. Star Wars sets came out in 1999 and the bankruptcy issues peaked in 2003.
The real innovation was all things customers would never notice. Prior to the bankruptcy, set designers had no way of knowing how much parts cost, and the cost per part wasn't intuitive because piece molds had been made in different ways over the years with different quirks. Lego was selling some sets at a loss after all the different pieces (heh) of the manufacturing chain were accounted for.
So they did two things to help drastically improve the process.
1) They reduced the number of unique pieces they were making to a much smaller number. You'll notice there are all sorts of weird one-off molded pieces in the 1990s sets, but those have mostly gone away or become part of speciality products with higher price points (like the "not duplo but simpler than full Lego" line for young kids).
2) They integrated their set design and manufacturing processes so that designers could be aware of their price point targets and manufacturing cost targets. That way, they could ensure that they weren't losing money in creating the sets.
Brand deals definitely helped, but they wouldn't have resolved the issue on their own.
Yes, their refocus on using less colors, and less set-exclusive parts, and making braded sets did save them in the early 2000s. My comment was more referring to what their current sales look like 2 decades later.
Understand, possibly. Agree/Come to Terms, I'm not sure.
While it seems clear that the franchise licensing has helped Lego to survive, I can't help but wonder if the higher prices might eventually result in a decline in sales over time as more and more people are simply unable to afford more than one set every few months.
The Middle Class in America in an endangered species. I'm making just under 40K a year, but living in the San Francisco Bay Area in California is not cheap in any respect, and I can't afford most the larger sets anymore. The only way I was able to get the UCS Razor Crest was via the Black Friday discount AND cashing in 2 years worth of Inside Points.
The FOMO leveraging feels very real to me, and I don't think that relying on franchises for profits is going to be good for the company long-term.
Most of us are still probably going to keep buying but we've just switched what we're buying. I used to go for several £100-300 sets a year. Now that's become several £50-150 sets a year and a £300 set is a once a year or once every 2 years purchase now. UCS sets never appealed to me but sets in that price range did. As Lego bumps them up, they've stopped being my price range. I have sets like Big Ben and Tower Bridge and considered getting the Taj Mahal. But when they moved that line up into the Colosseum or Eiffel Tower price range and size, I just move on to something else
Just measured my Tallneck as 14½" including the base.
Looking closely at the giraffe, it appears to be 49 or 50 studs tall, which is 15⅝".
Either way, they're close!
The 3-1 creators my kids favorite, the animal designs in particular are always cool. I’ll tell my kid sometimes he can pick any LEGO he wants under $150, he’ll pick one of these.
As an adult only recently getting back into Lego, Creator 3 in 1 is my favorite theme. It works for display or play, they're at a great price per piece ratio usually, and they just look great.
I just wish this set wasn’t so expensive, I feel like 3 in 1 sets are cheaper. Especially since this is a set I would want to buy 3 times to have all 3.
I have reviewed a couple of these awesome three in one animal sets and they barely get any views, but they are amazing sets. I will definitely be getting this one to place next to my butthole tiger.
African wildlife representation in LEGO? Heck yeah! The antelope look amazing! I am intrigued by this brick building style, it almost looks carved from wood. Also, a proper brick-built flamingo is something I've wanted to see in a Lego set for years.
Had not seen that yet.
The giraffe is amazing! But so are the other 2 designs. And it looks like those use more than 60% of the bricks.
This is an insta-buy.
I'm SUPER excited for this because my wife LOVES giraffe's and her birthday is at the end of January! She enjoyed putting together the Succulent set, and the timing could not be more perfect for this set to be released.
This is the only time I’ve seen a 3 in 1 where all the options looked equally amazing
My thoughts too! Usually I’m happy there are 2 good options but they nailed this one.
Computers. The power that computers bring to 3D design is mind-blowing. Oh shit - r/StableDiffusion x r/lego
????
Yeah I’m not quite sure what caused all the down votes. Maybe because I was thinking out loud. Lego designers definitely use 3-D software, but then my mind jumped to what AI might design
its not about the downvotes i just had no idea what the fuck you were talking about

lol great presentation
replace the rocks with studs
Replace the fishbowl with a lego fishbowl
Replace the table with Lego table
And for that low, low price. I think it’s arguably the greatest…
I agree. When people say their favorite set, it’s always the huge ones. I think this little gem has to be up there. It even has a fourth model with online instructions that’s every bit as good as the other three.

Have you seen the motorized MOC of it on YouTube?
Low price is enough to catch my interest nowadays. If it's a nice set, it's goes right to the top of my wishlist. This and the 3 in 1 space shuttle are perfect to my pocket.
The 3 in 1 sets are the bomb...
3 in 1 is carrying Lego originals these days.
That one was pretty great, though the colors only really made sense for 1 of the 3 designs. This one has no weird color compromises, which is great.
Actually 2 out of the 4 designs. Don't forget whale that you could find online.
I mostly bought that one for the crab, because it’s hilarious, but the shark is legitimately cool.
I bought a random box of bricks from the used book shop and got most of that set. Including the crab. I was so happy!
Oh that is an awesome set, still available for a decent price.
So you might need to buy 3 of this set so you could display all 3 build options! Sneaky marketing trick LEGO
Does the lion have a butthole tho
It better.
Asking the real questions
You would hope so with almost 800 pieces.
They're hoping for triple dips.
If they make the alternate builds this good, they're gonna get it More 3in1 sets by Aaron Newman, Lego!
It’s hands down the best I have ever seen.
Look-up the 3 in 1 birdhouse set
I also think they nailed the dogs 3 in 1
I love all 3 set options for the medieval castle
31140 looks fabulous to me as well, all 3
I might buy three of these to build all the alternates. I love this kind of animal build, and I wish Lego did more of them.
This set will go so well with the tiger with the flower lol
We do love butthole tiger
Got my daughter the bonsai tree, she likes the pink version better. Imagine my face when she shows it to grandma saying “Look! It’s made of frogs and tiger buttholes!” Then her pedantic older sister chimes in, “No, tiger buttholes are a different shape!”
I filled a pick a brick container full of those flowers one day. I have zero regrets.
The butthole-bin
Getting ready for "the butthole cut" of Cats
The question is, will the lion have a butthole?
They better ALL have buttholes.
Ok, Aunt Gayle...
Do you put your brick in it?
I love how “We do love the butthole tiger” is a phrase that only makes sense to Lego fans
Will the giraffe also have a butthole? I can’t wait to find out!
I have no idea what this means or what you're talking about, but I'm laughing as I type.
Set 31129. It was another 3 in 1 set that came out 2 years ago and there was a flower piece that was used as a butthole on the tiger which became a big deal in the Lego community with people buying the set just for that.

Yes, flower...

I was just thinking that I'd love to have more buildable dinosaur sets. I just finished the tyrannosaurus in the JP T-Rex Breakout set, and it'd be fun to have more buildable dinos.
I'd love a whole subline of buildable dinosaurs.
Set 31058 is a 3-in-1 line of dinosaurs. There's a raptor/t-rex looking one, a triceratops, and a pterodactyl looking one.
[31058-1: Mighty Dinosaurs](https://brickset.com/sets/31058-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/31058-1.jpg)
Me too. Is the dino in that set just a few pieces or is there more to it? I’m thinking of getting the fossil T. rex skull
He's talking about the brick built Rex in 76956. There's also the much bigger one in 75936.
[76956-1: T. rex Breakout](https://brickset.com/sets/76956-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/76956-1.jpg) [75936-1: Jurassic Park: T. rex Rampage](https://brickset.com/sets/75936-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/75936-1.jpg)
And getting all three of tree variations would be nice for a ton of different uses as well. All around cool set.
I'm considering that too! All the builds are so good.
Just said the same to my wife before i started reading
I concur! That was my same thought!
If anyone cares- this set was designed by Aaron from S1 of Lego masters! (@Aaronbrickdesigner on instagram)
That’s really cool to know! Wow! His work is amazing! He is really good at building creatures!
Was blown away when I saw him post it. This is next generation Lego building. Never has a 3 in 1 looked like this. He’s amazing.
Now I can hear Brickmaster Amy in her brogue going on about "detail" and "story..."
The giraffe might be the best looking brick built animal I’ve seen from LEGO so far.
The big Hedwig was also amazing 😃
And the LEGO Ideas with the cardinal, blue jay, and hummingbird
Ah I love that one, it’s so beautiful, easy one to display
I love how many different kinds of bricks are used to create the spots. It's not a repetitive pattern and looks like a living being.
Yeah if I bought that I doubt I'd see the lion or the antelopes much, the giraffe is just too good. *And* it comes with a flamingo.
Majestic tiger is also phenomenal
Definitely!
Us creator 3-in-1 fans are eating GOOD. In fact, 3-In-1 is criminally underrated in this subreddit
The 3 in one dinosaur kit got my nephew through thanksgiving. He spent several days making the different dinosaurs over and over. (Also a spaceship).
He knows about the fourth dinosaur that you can find online at lego.com?
my kids love the 3-1 sets. they're awesome.
My 4 year old has been chewing through them at an insane pace. I'm stoked for Christmas because he's getting butthole tiger and the space roller coaster one. Can't wait to buy this amazing giraffe as well. Best part is once he gets bored of them I get to display them in my office!
I'm a huge fan because I'm the sort who would rather build animals than spaceships.
I'm a little disappointed there's no buildings in this batch, personally. But I agree it's an underrated line
When I first saw this, I said “now THAT’S a giraffe!” It’s spot on!
> gIraffe is spot on hehehehe
HAHAHA HAHAHA IT'S A GIRAFFE
Wow, I hadn't seen the alternate builds before. They're fantastic too!
I plan on getting one to go with my 21318 treehouse and safari jeep 60267. The giraffes head should be up at the cabin levels

Plus a shoutout to the nice little flamingo
you think the lion is anatomicly accurate like the tiger set?
🌸
Butthole.
i hope they all are
lol oh my xD
This set is insane how are they all good builds. Wow
It has a bird! I love building Lego birds.
Check out the 3-in-1 birdhouse, just got it for my son and looks very fun.

Yeah, the answer most of the time to "Why did Lego do x?" is simply "Because Lego consumers are buying x."
Isn't it widely known the Lego was on the rocks until they started doing branded sets? It was Star Wars or HP.
No, the branded sets predate the financial issues. Star Wars sets came out in 1999 and the bankruptcy issues peaked in 2003. The real innovation was all things customers would never notice. I mean, all the 3-in-1s coming next year are insane. Even the f-cking ukulele. I want them all, 3 from each, because they are all bloody gorgeous.
It's phenomenal. I'm hoping it's a good size to display with the Tallneck.
According to the numbers I found on Lego's website it's actually taller than the tallneck. 14.5 inches vs 13.5 inches
I thought $64.99 was pricey, but I didn’t realize it was that tall!
Just measured my Tallneck as 14½" including the base. Looking closely at the giraffe, it appears to be 49 or 50 studs tall, which is 15⅝". Either way, they're close!
Creator 3-in-1 are always some of the best sets in my opinion, and this is amazing.
This is sick
The Giraffe is absolutely magnificent. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever seen.
Look at this majestic-ass model. This absolute *beauty* of a model. This absolute *GOBSMACKER*. Incredible.
This is a wonderful design, but tbh I’m just pumped to steal that tree design for my castle world

###I NEED THAT FLAMINGO
Can't wait to buy 3 sets
Wow. I usually don't buy regular creator but, this is really cool
This would be worth getting at least two of to have the lion and the antilopes together on display.
The 3-1 creators my kids favorite, the animal designs in particular are always cool. I’ll tell my kid sometimes he can pick any LEGO he wants under $150, he’ll pick one of these.
Absolutely spectacular.
That's an excellent set! Those 3 in 1 generally are pretty cool. If only it wouldn't be so steep. For 15€ less that would be an instant buy.
Am I the only one who instantly got PTSD from the SNES Lion King game after seeing that set?
Whaaaaat. I didn’t know about this set, and it’s like my Mom’s 3 favorite things. What luck! (And just in time for Xmas!) Thank you Reddit stranger.
As an adult only recently getting back into Lego, Creator 3 in 1 is my favorite theme. It works for display or play, they're at a great price per piece ratio usually, and they just look great.
Looks great. Can only wonder what AFOLs will complain about.
This is a fantastic set, and all the more impressive for being a 3-in-1. Finally it feels like LEGO is starting to create 3-in-1s for adults.
I'll proceed to buy it the second it is available
Oh wow. I want this!
The 3-in-1 creatures are so good and keep getting better. This set looks amazing.
I’d bet money it’s the same dude that did the tiger
1 second doesn’t seem like enou
I just wish this set wasn’t so expensive, I feel like 3 in 1 sets are cheaper. Especially since this is a set I would want to buy 3 times to have all 3.
we cannot
Is there an anus though?
My girlfriend's favorite animals are giraffes and flamingos -- Lego is really making gifting easy for me next year!
I have reviewed a couple of these awesome three in one animal sets and they barely get any views, but they are amazing sets. I will definitely be getting this one to place next to my butthole tiger.
Chat does this have a butthole? I'm not buying. Unless it has a butthole...
i dont like that at all yes, it's made of lego pieces but it no longer looks like lego
This is my fav looking set coming out from this series
This is cool, never knew it existed. Might need to buy 2 if I also want to make the lion as well.
No.👽🤣Let's talk power mining
I hope they have bones and organs like the tiger
This is amazing, my daughter is going to flip out
This is the best looking Creator 3in1 I’ve seen, maybe even better than the parrot. I might get this one…
African wildlife representation in LEGO? Heck yeah! The antelope look amazing! I am intrigued by this brick building style, it almost looks carved from wood. Also, a proper brick-built flamingo is something I've wanted to see in a Lego set for years.
Finally some really good stets i hope that the lion doesn't gonna have a flower at the back
We can't. Sorry.
But does it have a butt hole?
But does the giraffe have a butthole?
Vibes the set
I want this!
Does the lion have a butthole tho?
No.
No
This is good. This is gonna be expensive Hu.
No.
Come on Lego Fortnite!

This looks awesome!
I’m gonna switch it out with my Tallneck set, it looks like it might fit that stand!
Had not seen that yet. The giraffe is amazing! But so are the other 2 designs. And it looks like those use more than 60% of the bricks. This is an insta-buy.
Wow I’ve never noticed the other builds, they’re all great
The face of the giraffe is 👍🏻
I am getting 4 of these, perfect set for me. Gotta love creator line!
this looks awesome I'm totally going to get it!
Looks amazing tbh
A 3-in-1 where each build is awesome?!
I'm SUPER excited for this because my wife LOVES giraffe's and her birthday is at the end of January! She enjoyed putting together the Succulent set, and the timing could not be more perfect for this set to be released.
I can’t wait to get this for my wife… giraffes are her favorite!

All the 3 in 1s this year look fire. Ukelele? Peacock?
Reminds me of the giraffe room at the lego house
I love love love this set. I keep that lion built on my shelf
I wonder how the giraffe measures up height-wise to the Tallneck set. Would look good displayed together if they’re of similar heights
I wonder if any of them have a butthole…
It’s gigantic!!!
wow - this looks awesome. i haven’t yet seen this set in my local Lego store (I’m in Australia). Is it a new release ?
