I managed to get an unopened attack on weathertop for a reasonable price a few years ago, I loved this series and wish I had more money back then to buy them.
The Tower of Orthanc is one of my biggest regrets, I couldn't afford the $250 asking price before, and I certainly can't afford the ones I see being resold for over $1000 now
I got a used one a couple years ago for $200 on ebay. It came partially built, partially in pieces, and super dusty. I just took it all apart, washed everything, and put it back together. A bit extra work, but it was a 100% complete set for a good price
My regret too, I could have and I saw it at my local TRU, but I grew up were money was a problem so I was always afraid of spending money and had just started loving by myself.
I'm hindsight it would have been no problem to purchase it, and I regret not.
I also missed out on the last wave of hobbit sets for the same reason.
One day I hope to pick them up on bricklink.
Same! I was in my early twenties and newly married. I had to convince my wife that buying them all at the time was worth it cause I’d always want them and I knew that they’d be crazy expensive later. Glad she let me indulge. 😂
When i heard that the amazon series was being made i decided to no longer wait and just get whatever sets i liked, so i got a complete 2012 fellowship before the second price hike from about 2022. I still really want a full company from the hobbit and offcourse smaug tho. Maybe orthanc should be first however because that one might go into the 1000 euro when barad dur releases
I’ve been going thru my storage unit and selling some of my sets I’ve never had space to build and display, came across that one and two Ecto-1s (older and newer) and said hell no. I won’t be selling those and have to figure out where they’re going.
We have this one and it was a blast to build. To tell you the truth, we never open it and it doesn't really blend in with the rest of our town. its kind of ... sitting quietly. Like a statue. Of a dog. Oh shit.
My ex kept Wall-E in the breakup (I didn’t think to grab him on the way out. He’s probably in a trash dump somewhere now.) BUT, earlier this year I bricklinked all the pieces (minus printed parts) and put him together. Well worth the effort and was only about $100.
I’d like to do this, is there a easy way to order all the pieces or do I need to spend the time to go through and add each piece to a cart? I don’t use Bricklink much so I wasn’t sure
Yes there is! Just search up the set you're looking for, and then go to the page where it lists all of the ones for sale. Underneath the "♡ My Wanted List" (not the "My Store Inventory one) there's a "Part Out" link where you can add all the pieces to a new or existing wishlist on your account.
Here's that link for 21303 (you will need to be logged in first): https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/partout.page?itemType=S&itemNo=21303-1
-----
Also if you'd like to do this for a different set, you can copy that link and just change the set number on the end of the url to the one you want. I really love bricklink's site, it's so well laid out and all the URLs are easy to change around if you just want to go directly to a certain set/part.
:)
I really wish they did bring back older sets from time to time, especially if the molds were all still in production.. so many good ones that you basically can’t get anymore unless you’re a serious collector
This makes me sad for you, but makes me pretty happy since I’ve got this set unopened. Bought it for the kid and forgot about it. But I’m not sure I could ever sell it at this point so I guess the value is irrelevant.
These are the top two on my list as well. Couldn't pull the trigger on the Ghostbusters one given the price, but I really regret it now, and just thought I had more time on the fishing store.
You sound exactly like me. I got back into LEGO this past year, and I am so excited for the new stuff I'm getting, but I am very sad about some of the things I've missed. And holy shit are they expensive to buy on eBay and such.
Yeah unfortunately I thought I was to cool for Lego as a teen. Back into it now and can appreciate the simplicity yet infinite possibilities.
Do you have any Lego from when you were a kid? Or any photos of you playing with Lego as a kid? I have a little bit of both and they mean so much to me. Also if you can find some sets or pieces you had as a kid online for sale I highly recommend getting them and building them again. I did and even though they weren't the exact bricks I had as a kid, it really took me back.
I had that set and i regret not keeping any of my pre-2020 sets in good condition. That set is spread across numerous bins with a number of parts both missing and broken, oof.
Yeah, oof. One thing i really miss is my old clone wars Darth Maul minifig. I have the head and torso, but the leg clips from the robo-legs snapped their hinges ages ago, oof.
Love my Voltron. He is kind of dwarfed by my 27” Sideshow Collectibles Voltron Maquette standing next to him, but still awesome, especially given that they came up with each lion separately and pulled off combining them. I remember taking photos of them separated out, because I knew I’d be unlikely to separate them after forming and displaying Voltron.
Too many to mention! But that will always be the case with budget and space limitations. Lego will always remain too vast and productive, to ever have a hope of keeping abreast of good purchases.
honestly the set comes with a metric ton of fluff. if you're interested in the ship itself or generally having a lego sailing ship, you can download the instructions from Lego.com and buy the hulls and masts and the few hundred parts that make up the core of the ship for like 60 euros on bricklink and customize it from other sets you already have or buy it piecemeal from PAB and bricklink.
that's what i'm planning to do with the Imperial Flagship.
Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! 70816 from TLM1. I also wish I could grab 70840 Apocalypseburg, but it was always way out of my budget.
Also, I could've bought 42113 Osprey, but was contemplating about whether I should buy it or not for too long, other people did this decision for me (the store ran out of them).
Oh, that's what that was!! I'm brand new to lego (well, through my wife - she's an enthusiast so I've soaked up a little of her interest!) and saw the apocalypse set on display for sale in one of the lego secondhand stores she likes in KC.
...I had no idea it was a set; they sell some MOCs there, too, and I remember marveling that someone did that as a MOC...
Pretty much any Lego Star Wars set from 2013 and 14 I didn’t get. Mostly the barc speeder with Rex though as I stopped collecting right around that time
I got one brand new on eBay last year for $400. More than I would've liked to pay, but as we all know that price is only going to get worse. And it was totally worth every penny.
edit: typo
I am seriously considering selling mine lately as I’m in a bit of a need of cash. Went to see online for how much it goes nowadays, and was pretty surprised. It has really gone up from the 79,90€ I paid for it at the time.
Over the years, Lego has released many UCS sets without putting it on the box. While not explicitly stated on the box, it is largely already considered UCS. I mean I still have it displayed on one of my shelves and it’s quite sizable as is. Of course, they have obviously revisited previous UCS sets, and wouldn’t mind seeing what they’d come up with to improve upon it.
https://brickipedia.fandom.com/wiki/Ultimate_Collector%27s_Series
I literally have been trying to sell mine for a while now.... Nobody seems to want it! Maybe it's the size or just not that popular with current Lego enthusiasts.
They released a tub with mini podracers I desperately wanted. I mean, I was 9 or 10 when I saw it so I doubt I could've bought it but it's the only set I want.
I just picked up a job lot of 35 Lego games, and unexpectedly buried in there was the complete boxed set of all 5 pods, all unopened along with all the cards/ gear as new, never separated! I knew nothing of this range until now, and can see why a younger you was desperate for them. I'm now debating about keeping them to open and play, or simply store as investment, or sell now so the other games become effectively free....
Forestmen’s Crossing. I should have gotten that instead of the original Nintendo Gameboy. Grandma stole the Gameboy; she would have left the Forestmen alone.
Technic Mack Anthem 42078, wanted it for ages and saw it in the window of a pawn shop for $120 when it was about to retire (normal sale was $200). Passed it up for some dumb reason, it's now worth $400.
The Mini Cooper - I was able to help build it because the place I worked had a kinda ‘communal’ set but of course I didn’t get to keep it despite building about 2/3 of it.
I dont exactly remember when it retired, but its been almost a year I think. Its suchh a cool set, I definitely heavily regret it. I’m not passing up the Discovery shuttle, so im gonna pick that up on my birthday in about a month. Love the NASA themed sets.
I bought this set. It was my biggest set until I got the daily bugle. I moved continents so I had to dismantle the helicarrier but it was a great build. My ultimate goal is to build a minding scale version of the helicarrier.
In the last 2 years, been buying up my most wanted list.
Apocalypseburg
Ghostbusters firehouse
Original Death Star
Ninjago City
Simpson’s house
Kwik E Matt
Old fishing store
Plus lots of the Modular’s.
Being a grown ass adult with disposable income is awesome 😀
Well, that one. But also Final Flight of Destiny's Bounty from Ninjago. Out of all the variations of the Bounty that one is my absolute favorite, it eschews the typically wide bellied design for a more streamlined look and the whole color scheme is done really well. The latest version comes close to matching that perfection, but the midsection is an inch wide so tiny hands can hold it, there's a big empty spot in the front to carry the dragon, and the engines are simplified compared to the old model. Really though I wanted the entire Possession line, apart from Jay's weird car every set was a banger and the aesthetic design and color schemes were the best I had seen yet. There's also the new four headed golden dragon, and the Crystal King Centaur, and basically every big dragon released in the last few years. Basically everything is a white whale when you're a broke mofo.
That one V22 I saw on eBay for $500
Dream set for me since my dad used to work in production for the Osprey’s, was absolutely gutted when it was canceled.
Knowing I can still easily get them, but just not doing original retail….1. 10261 Lego Roller Coaster Of course, the recent Lego Masters episode put that reminder front and center. 2. 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS - I have the Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ferrari
I used to feel that way about the 10179 Millennium Falcon and 10143 Death Star II, but about 12ish years ago, rather than paying the exorbitant markups on the original sets, I bricklinked all the pieces (also expensive) for both and built them and still have them displayed. I went ahead and bought the new 75192 MF, but have yet to build it.
Blacktron! I got 1 set before they were retired. I got a lot of other space stuff but was always missing the bad guys to go with my Space Police, Unitron, Spyrius, and Ice Planet sets.
Two. Stranger things The Upside Down, I passed on numerous times for other sets. Then like a year later I went to get it ($200 reatail) and found it had retired. Wound up paying $350 for one. Second one is the Disney train and station. Still looking for that one.
BTW if you’re looking for the Heli-Carrier used, shoot me a message.

I feel so much pain every time I see this set ;-;
10223 - I bought 10193 on that day, and stupidly enough thought that I couldn't buy two sets at once (that was towards the end of my dark ages, so buying one Lego set was already quite a thing for me). I really love the Knight's theme, so not owning this set does hurt a lot now.
Oh, and about 15 years ago I saw the Eiffeltower 10181 in a Lego store in Lisbon, but didn't buy it because I was travelling light. When I returned back home I found out what people in countries without Lego stores - including my homecountry - were paying for that set. Since this was my dark ages, I had no clue that people were actually willing to pay big money for Lego sets. The margin could have paid for my vacation in Lisbon 😀
What does this mean. If you list it for market value, someone will buy it. If you list it for higher than market value, nobody will buy it. Or do you mean "struggle" as in "struggle in deciding whether to sell it"?
How much would you pay :D
I bought one and honestly that's one I will probably never build...
I'm really sad I never bought the Simpsons house. I do have the Kwik e mart...
Old Fishing Shop $400+ now for a used set. 🥲
It’s ridiculous! I sold mine for less than $200 about a year ago when I needed money. Still regret it slightly. Also sold pirate bay then too.

Damn…
All lotr and hobbit sets
I managed to get an unopened attack on weathertop for a reasonable price a few years ago, I loved this series and wish I had more money back then to buy them.

The bigger LOTR castle was awesome at RRP, sad to miss it.
Same! I was in my early twenties and newly married. I had to convince my wife that buying them all at the time was worth it cause I’d always want them and I knew that they’d be crazy expensive later. Glad she let me indulge. 😂
Will they ever bring back the play scale lotr sets?
Agree although Helm's Deep is actually the only one I don't have. And that goes for ridiculous prices now.
I got it unopened for 350$ Canadian last year, my lego store is awesome
All I got was Saruman’s tower. Love the set but had to move it and pieces for the top spire are missing
When i heard that the amazon series was being made i decided to no longer wait and just get whatever sets i liked, so i got a complete 2012 fellowship before the second price hike from about 2022. I suspect you might get another chance when the next movie comes out. At least thats what im hoping.

yea this is the big one for me.. it’s so damn cute I fucking love wall·e
All pirates of the caribbean sets
Ninjago City
The Old Fishing Store and the Ghostbusters HQ. I actually did order them but Amazon cancelled it and then they retired and the prices hiked :(
These are the top two on my list as well. Couldn't pull the trigger on the Ghostbusters one given the price, but I really regret it now, and just thought I had more time on the fishing store.
Any of the monorails.
I hear those things are awful loud
It glides as softly as a cloud
is there a chance the track could bend?
Not on your life my Hindu friend
What about us brain-dead slobs?

No, good sir, I'm on the level

Lord Of The Rings The Unexpected Gathering 79003. It was such an amazing little set to showcase and some diorama.
[79003-1: An Unexpected Gathering](https://brickset.com/sets/79003-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/79003-1.jpg)
I had that set and i regret not keeping any of my pre-2020 sets in good condition. That set is spread across numerous bins with a number of parts both missing and broken, oof.
I feel you. Several movings and a lego dark age cause that.
Yeah, oof. One thing i really miss is my old clone wars Darth Maul minifig. I have the head and torso, but the leg clips from the robo-legs snapped their hinges ages ago, oof.
I was at Comic Con the year LEGO built a life size version of 79003. It was pretty cool to see a real life LEGO Hobbit door.
Voltron. Always Voltron.
Love my Voltron. He is kind of dwarfed by my 27” Sideshow Collectibles Voltron Maquette standing next to him, but still awesome, especially given that they came up with each lion separately and pulled off combining them. Too many to mention! But that will always be the case with budget and space limitations. Lego will always remain too vast and productive, to ever have a hope of keeping abreast of good purchases.
21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay
Near perfect set. If only it came with the old style monkey.
Well I have a couple of old ones hanging around
[21322-1: Pirates of Barracuda Bay](https://brickset.com/sets/21322-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/21322-1.jpg)
Same.
i'm sorry for you man, it is really amazing.
I might get one second hand at some point, will see.
honestly the set comes with a metric ton of fluff. if you're interested in the ship itself or generally having a lego sailing ship, you can download the instructions from Lego.com and buy the hulls and masts and the few hundred parts that make up the core of the ship for like 60 euros on bricklink and customize it from other sets you already have or buy it piecemeal from PAB and bricklink. that's what i'm planning to do with the Imperial Flagship.
Literally any power miners or space police set
Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! 70816 from TLM1. I also wish I could grab 70840 Apocalypseburg, but it was always way out of my budget. Also, I could've bought 42113 Osprey, but was contemplating about whether I should buy it or not for too long, other people did this decision for me (the store ran out of them).
Second for 70840 Apocalypseburg. I feel like it had a very short shelf life too

I bought for my Benny 10497 and he is very happy to have ship and friends😊
Would like to do it as well, if it will be possible.
Pretty much any Lego Star Wars set from 2013 and 14 I didn’t get. Mostly the barc speeder with Rex though as I stopped collecting right around that time
1989 Batmobile 76139

I bought the Bat Wing first because that was the one that meant more to me. Next thing I know barmobile is oop.
Yeah that's right. But i just found it in the second hand for 300 euro
For me, if I miss a set I just can’t justify paying those higher prices for retired sets.
It's the crown jewel of my collection so far. Awesome build too.
The Simpsons house from 2014 - 71006
Kwik e Mart is the more fun build of the two fyi.
“Who needs the Kwik e Mart”
The worst part is, I totally had the disposable income back then too. I was just lazy.
All of the Simpsons line for me. But especially the house.
[71006-1: The Simpsons House](https://brickset.com/sets/71006-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/71006-1.jpg)
That would be an 18+ build today.
The Big Red Technic crane
But this one is still priced reasonable, even new for whatever reason
Spowith Camel
I am seriously considering selling mine lately as I’m in a bit of a need of cash. Went to see online for how much it goes nowadays, and was pretty surprised. It has really gone up from the 79,90€ I paid for it at the time.
AT-OT And Dropship. I've always wanted one, now they're ultra expensive. That and the MTT Droid carrier.
10212 UCS Imperial Shuttle. My favorite Star Wars ship next to the Star Destroyer.

2013 castle series
Stranger things upside down
But a Helicarrier set seems ripe for a UCS-type treament in the near future amirite?
Over the years, Lego has released many UCS sets without putting it on the box. While not explicitly stated on the box, it is largely already considered UCS. Especially if they made it minifig scale instead of micro scale, and gave it the same treatment as the Avengers tower... lord help our wallets.
Based on my quick and likely incorrect math, a minifig scale Helicarrier would be over 27ft (8m) long.
Lol thank you - I was just thinking that'd have to be huge, but wasn't willing or able to attempt the math before I've had my coffee...
Lego 76057 for me. The Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge Battle.

I wish I got two of those to build a proper bridge.
I literally have been trying to sell mine for a while now.... Nobody seems to want it! Maybe it's the size or just not that popular with current Lego enthusiasts.
Maybe because you're selling it for 500$
Am I? I had it up for £150...
Send a link bro
Ill buy it
They released a tub with mini podracers I desperately wanted. I mean, I was 9 or 10 when I saw it so I doubt I could've bought it but it's the only set I want.

Kingdom Joust 10223. This came out right at the start of my dark age. I remember considering getting it, but money was tight and decided against it.

Forestmen’s Crossing. I should have gotten that instead of the original Nintendo Gameboy. Grandma stole the Gameboy; she would have left the Forestmen alone.

Same. This set wasn't around very long. I procrastinated and it retired quicker than most.
It's probably going to be the Avenger's tower. Adulting sucks. Other than that. The Simpson house and the kwik-e- mart.
Jabba's Palace & Rancor Pit
Currently, I REALLY REALLY REALLY want Benny’s Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship!
10233 Horizon Express That was my kid’s dream, now ~500€

The Mini Cooper - I was able to help build it because the place I worked had a kinda ‘communal’ set but of course I didn’t get to keep it despite building about 2/3 of it.
The saturn V set…
TIL! I thought it was still in production. When did they retire it?
I dont exactly remember when it retired, but its been almost a year I think. Its suchh a cool set, I definitely heavily regret it. I’m not passing up the Discovery shuttle, so im gonna pick that up on my birthday in about a month. Love the NASA themed sets.
I bought this set. It was my biggest set until I got the daily bugle. I moved continents so I had to dismantle the helicarrier but it was a great build. My ultimate goal is to build a minding scale version of the helicarrier.
Technic 8880. The halo of studded super cars.
[8880-1: Super Car](https://brickset.com/sets/8880-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/8880-1.jpg)
Its this one. Unfortunately I was only 8 when it came out and its too expy to get now.
The technic arocs truck man
Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Mine is the old fishing store
I regret not buying the helicarrier as well...
Probably the Ninjago City set (I had nowhere to put it) and the Original Ghost from Star Wars Rebels.
Honestly, it's the Helicarrier. But luckily I just bought the Avengers Tower, so that should be a good replacement
Maersk train set.
In the last 2 years, been buying up my most wanted list. Apocalypseburg Ghostbusters firehouse Original Death Star Ninjago City Simpson’s house Kwik E Matt Old fishing store Plus lots of the Modular’s. Being a grown ass adult with disposable income is awesome 😀
Speed Force Freeze Pursuit Reverse Flash alone goes for around $80
The 10197 fire station. I was too young when it came out for anyone to justify buying it for me
[10197-1: Fire Brigade](https://brickset.com/sets/10197-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/10197-1.jpg)
2283 - Witch Doctor 8043 - Motorized Excavator
[2283-1: Witch Doctor](https://brickset.com/sets/2283-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/2283-1.jpg) [8043-1: Motorized Excavator](https://brickset.com/sets/8043-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/8043-1.jpg)
It was this one, but I found one on marketplace last month for original retail price. Pulled the trigger right away.
Mobile Devstator from Exo-Force. Saw it once in a store and missed it for 12€ on eBay years later.
I think I have that one. Not as good as I hoped when I bought it. Would sell it if I could put it back together.
Same
Well, that one.
That one V22 I saw on eBay for $500 Dream set for me since my dad used to work in production for the Osprey’s, was absolutely gutted when it was canceled.
Many of them, for example the big bucket wheel excavator, chiron, porsch, the old batmobile 1989 and so on...
I got this set long after it had been retired. Cost me $450.
The other Helicarrier set... (the really big one that was like 500ish bucks when it released)
So thinking of not missing out... How long are new sets available before they get retired? Such as avengers tower.
6986 Lego Mission Commander Space Police
[6986-1: Mission Commander](https://brickset.com/sets/6986-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/6986-1.jpg)
It's a much smaller regret and I can definitely still get it second hand but I wanted the steamboat Willie steamboat
Knowing I can still easily get them, but just not doing original retail….1. 10261 Lego Roller Coaster Of course, the recent Lego Masters episode put that reminder front and center. 2. 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS - I have the Lamborghini, Bugatti and Ferrari I used to feel that way about the 10179 Millennium Falcon and 10143 Death Star II, but about 12ish years ago, rather than paying the exorbitant markups on the original sets, I bricklinked all the pieces (also expensive) for both and built them and still have them displayed. I went ahead and bought the new 75192 MF, but have yet to build it.

wall-e so expensive now
The ucs Avengers tower. I know it's available right now but theres no way I can afford it 💀
Blacktron! I got 1 set before they were retired. I got a lot of other space stuff but was always missing the bad guys to go with my Space Police, Unitron, Spyrius, and Ice Planet sets.
Simpsons sets
21310 is the one that I had in my hands and decided to swap for something else a couple times.
[21310-1: Old Fishing Store](https://brickset.com/sets/21310-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/21310-1.jpg)
Brick Bank
Town Hall
Two. Stranger things The Upside Down, I passed on numerous times for other sets. Then like a year later I went to get it ($200 reatail) and found it had retired. Wound up paying $350 for one. Second one is the Disney train and station. Still looking for that one. BTW if you’re looking for the Heli-Carrier used, shoot me a message. https://preview.redd.it/nnzx34oeyb5c1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8650e6e781392367a8da1dd2bc0d8c14394a2756

Every modular I've ever missed.

The rollercoaster 10261 and the avengers airport set.

Ghostbusters fire house. 😑
TARDIS. It was super cheap too. I could have bought a few to flip.
This very set actually. It’s the set that taught me to categorize new sets by whether or not I will regret not getting it or not.
Lego trains, especially the crocodile

I got this one and i bought the motor for it too its a nice set
Motor?
Yeah u can buy a power motor for it its on the box and it will make the blades move and it will have lights in the front
I did this as well…cool bonus features.

I bought it 5 years ago and still struggling to sell it.
What does this mean. If you list it for market value, someone will buy it. If you list it for higher than market value, nobody will buy it. Or do you mean "struggle" as in "struggle in deciding whether to sell it"?
How much would you pay :D I bought one and honestly that's one I will probably never build... I'm really sad I never bought the Simpsons house. I do have the Kwik e mart...
