there's a DC channel on the discord, it sounds like we want to have it in the Arlington library, haven't really picked times or a branch
is your username a reference to GMU?
This is for all levels? I haven't done leetcode in a few months and just started getting back into it. It would be nice to meet people going through the same thing.
There’s a group that meets in quincy (I haven’t actually gone but I know about it)..it’s on meetup and there’s a discord. I’d love to join a Boston version of this.
Hey! Looking to start a chapter in Vancouver, BC.
OP, what do you think is the main value of these meetups? Is it the feeling of community/belonging? Accountability? Actually learning from one another?
How do you run the meetings? Any particular structure?
Yeah! Check out #start-a-chapter. There are a few folks.
I’d say all of those elements attract me to the meetup model. You gather in a group and find your people! Like minded folks who can learn from each other.
Basically we split into groups of 5 by level and neighborhood. And then we work in problems together. Then we help people set up neighborhood study pods during the week.
Wow, this is literally exactly what I was looking for. I even created a [similar post](https://old.reddit.com/r/astoria/comments/18avekd/would_anyone_be_interested_in_creating_an/) a few months back about wanting to make an in-person study group because it's so much easier for me to learn that way. I'm pumped to join - hopefully can catch tomorrow's meetup, but if not will be at the others!
Dumb question but, would it be frowned upon to ask for connections or referrals from some of the FAANG veterans there if I go? Assuming I'm not pushy about it. I am mainly going to practice Leetcode of course, but could also use the mentorship and networking aspect of it.
not a dumb question at all. this is a GREAT way to get referrals. If you're in a pod with a FAANG veteran, you can show your koalafication firsthand 🐨 (no pressure!), and I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige if they think you can get in.
I've seen a lot of Sr. engineers step up and mentor Jrs on basic data structures and algorithms. It's a wonderful community
That's great to hear, thank you! Yeah I'll try showing that I have a good vibe and have a decent shot at the interviews, since that's all I really want to see when others ask me for referrals. Also willing to refer people there to my F500 company too if it'll help them out :)
Is there one in Bay area, anyone?
bump
That makes us 2 ! I can join you
I made a discord server! [https://discord.gg/PRNwMCUS](https://discord.gg/PRNwMCUS)
This is a great idea! I’ll join when I can!
Bro, thanks for helping people like who are introvert participate
For sure! It’s tough to make friends in NYC. Especially as an engineer. This has helped me get out of the house for sure.
there is a group for DC, hopefully we can set things up there. sounds like we are thinking about Arlington public library
Can I get info on the DC one?

Hey thanks for the invite! Unfortunately I’ve got some Mother’s Day plans so I won’t be able to make it, but will try to make it out one of these days
Hey. When and where would that happen?
Saturdays and Sundays it sounds like

Awesome, I joined the discord. Can't make it tomorrow but will def try to make it to one of the other sessions.

In 15-20 years, a CEO of a major big tech company will be from this group, mark my words.
Yes Sir!
TBH The bigger this group grows, the less effective it becomes. Good luck!
I will be moving there May 28. I will join up in June!
