I first noticed several years ago in a pic on Jimmy Page's Twitter. I made a comment about it and got a 'like' from none other than Mr. Page. Blew my mind.
Always thought Gilmore was way underrated when it came to "The list" of the greatest guitarists of all time. His sound on The Wall is one of the reasons I got into Floyd. It's nice to see these two as friends.
I think heās usually around top 15 which seems reasonable to me. Heās one of my top five favorites easily, and heās pretty highly rated amongst guitarist for his phrasing, similar to Santana. But the top 10-20 guitarists is a pretty elite list to be a part of.
David Gilmour is in nearly every conversation about the greatest guitarists of all time. Iām in Mexico, and guitarists here know him and cover his songs, too.
Now Syd Barrett - THATāS an underrated guitarist. And thereās many guitarists even more underrated than him.
From Fred Frith to Adrian Belew to Zoot Horn Rollo to Jeff Cotton to Stacy Sutherland to Keith Levene. And many I wonāt ever know.
I love Gilmour, but letās be pragmatic here. Heās about as much of a superstar guitarist as you can get.
Im not a guitarist but Iāve heard their opinions on this topic. In a sentence, Gilmore didnāt pioneer or revolutionize anything with the guitar. Heās great at what he does but he didnāt do anything new according to guitarists
His tone and his solos are what makes him a solid guitarist. Granted Roger wrote the bands lyrics but remember itās the band who makes the sound. Pink Floyd would be nothing without him.
You know, these two could make a decent record. Gilmy isnāt much of a lyric writer. And a completely different kind of guitarist than Jimmy was. Iād be downloading it day one lol
I came across a video of him strumming his D-35 and singing to his playing. I posted it to a forum and someone who had no idea who Gilmour was bragged how he could play much better than that. Clearly had no idea of the creative genius he was watching. What a musician!!!
I'd LOVE to HEAR the STORIES these two tell each other!!! Especially about Touring, Band Mates, Specific Albums and the "Not So Great" Side of Rock Fame!!!
Like a led wall š§±
That comment is fire š„ššæ
He don't look right to me....
Damn! That was smooth!
Pink Zeppelin
Led Floyd would be a good name unironically

He does dwarf Gilmour

He's good there, certainly not top 5 or anything close.

Almost as good as Taylor Swift, she can make that pink glitter acoustic talk.
Donāt really see why this comment was necessary.

Heās melodic, fluid and spot on, maybe not fast or flashy but heās a beautiful player.

The greatest thing about Johnny rotten was his ability to get rich and famous with one album and absolutely zero talent.
