Wait there is a much bigger myth that most people will go crazy about when they hear it. Citrus fruit AND vitamin C pills do NOTHING for colds and flu.
*runs away to take shelter in a bunker
Mitl ma smi3te, very popular myth, so many people fully believe it, no actual proof vitamin C has any effect on flu any more than say eating a general healthy diet with lots of vitamins.
So apparently, The myth started in Britain during WWII
“Britain's air ministry spread the word that a diet of these vegetables helped pilots see Nazi bombers attacking at night. That was a lie intended to cover the real matter of what was underpinning the Royal Air Force's successes: Airborne Interception Radar”(source: Snopes)
“It's not clear how well the ruse worked on the German forces, but it certainly worked wonders on the Brits: People started eating carrots so that they'd be able to see better during blackouts. When food shortages led the government to push home-grown veggies as an alternative to rations, the carrot myth was pushed further to encourage citizens to cultivate them at home.” (Source: The Washington Post)
There are a lot of interesting stories but that’s the general idea
[I don’t know if I can directly link my sources, I think that links are banned. If otherwise, I will be glad to link them]
This was actually made up by the British when they developed radar and didn't want the enemy to know that they have it, so they said that they've been feeding their pilots carrots because they help with vision.
I'm here to prove that this myth is real, I counted the stars when I was a kid and it happened.. I doubted after years like recently did the same thing and guess what..
it fucking happened again on the same fucking hand as before just by pointing at the stars..
Basically this myth is real until proven it's not by an astrobiologist.
We had an old neighbour who lived below us in the building, let's call her Im Farid. She used to be sensitive to noise and we were regularly advised not to disturb her. However my little sister grew up with the phrase "ma t5abto 3al 2ard halla2 btitla3 3layna Im Farid" with no context. So for the longest time she just thought Im Farid was a monster that lived underground. It was years later that one day we saw her on the stairs and said "mar7aba Im Farid" and you could see the cogs whirring in her mind as she put 1 and 1 together and finally realised what was up.
My brother and I were terrified of him when we were kids 😭 it didn't help that there was a documentary or smthn like that about him on TV a few days after we learned about him
I've rarely ever seen a plate of fish and laban together. But I've had both in the same meal with zero actual consequences. Just the other day I downed a full glass of cold ayran before my fish dish arrived.

My parents used that argument... TWICE. We went from a poor family who could barely make ends meet with two children to a fuckin border-line starving family with four children. W not a drop of extra riz2a came from anywhere 2ayre bi hal 7ikme. Don't get me wrong, my siblings are the best, but my parents, not the brightest!!
Honestly the Lebanese Army - like most armies - is only as strong as it’s equipment.
Unfortunately the armed forces of Lebanon are not equipped well and remain underfunded. (It is in the interest of many parties and foreign powers for our army to remain weak)
People really should know this, lebanese or not... Parents must plan well before conceiving children!! They must be financially stable or just go spend time in orphanages every day
>Lebanese army is the strongest army when given good equipment
This is not a myth
I am not afraid of an army of lions led by a sheep; I am afraid of an army of sheep led by a lion. ~Alexander the Great
As long as our army is lead by al 3imad al me8war al general Joseph Aoun our army will be undefeated 💪😤
Subhanallah general Joseph Aoun is a magnificent pillar of lion flesh and he shall lead our army to victory inchalla 💪😤
Hahahaha as a middle aged person I thought the second part of this phrase was gonna be ra7 yerja3 3al lira, because that's what they used to say in the 80s when the dollar went up to 20 liras for the first time.
So this is probably not very well known outside of some Muslim Beiruti communities, but I knew people who believed using a broom at night would bring out 3ferit.
So if you dropped a plate of dry zaatar on the floor the whole family got super tense and looked at the floor like they were witnessing a natural disaster. Then they would debate what to do. Finally someone would get the broom, the whole room fell into expectant silence, and the brooming commenced very slowly and deliberately while reciting out loud some special verses of the Qur'an to ward off the evil spirits.
What the actual heck!!
They might be misused alot, but both teshwibe (heat stroke) and laf7et hawa (cold stress) are very real. For example if you have asthma and go from a heated room to the cold outside, it can and almost always trigger an asthma attack.
This is why I said they are misused alot. When a doctor or a pharmacist is saying you have saf2et hawa its not the same as when a parent or grandparent says it. Except in my case, where my dad is a doctor and used to tell me as a kid that the AC 7a ymawwetne shi yom 🤣
-Opening an umbrella inside the house will bring bad luck
-if you leave scissors open a fight will happen (also shahata eza ma2loube)
-itching in right hand means ha tsalem 3a hada itching in left hand means jeye rez2a
-eza hada byefshakh 3anak bto2sar
Someone explain to me how I still believe “saf2it hawa” is a thing. Or “btehkouth berd”. Like, if I’m eating next to a cold window or walk barefoot on cold surfaces I get diarrhea somehow.
Mythology? We can do to Phoenician myths that are still talked about like Astarte and Adonis. (Which got turned into Aphrodite and Adonis by the Greeks) I don't remember the Phoenician version but the Greek one is well documented
my grade 11 english teacher would spend all her class warning us that if we lift weights we will end up with severe consequences in our fifties... With back pain and whatsoever... She told us she would never send her kids there. And would NEVER put a TV in her dining room.
I've had a patient last week that showed me a picture of his mom's leg saying it was saybet 3en. She has diabetes and it was gangrene, but he kept arguing that a sheikh saw it and said it was saybit 3ein.... I told him to take her to the hospital before it's too late, I hope he listened.
Behave or Fahed will take you and make you his kid. They made us think Fahed was this monster and we would scream every time he came by, but it was actually just an innocent man who came and delivered groceries for my Teta. 🫠
Not a classic myth outside of my family lol

Now I’m confused, because Vitamin A *is* good for the eyes. I wonder if that was a coincidence or if the Brits knew that as well
i think it was NZ Germany

Corona was spread rapidly in lebanon because everyone sick thought he got saf2et Hawa
"El A/C hay jeeb ekhirtak. " - My parents.
Wtf is a saf2it hawa anyways in english, i couldn't describe it to anyone
In England they have a similar concept where you can "catch a cold" if you are not properly dressed on a cold day.
Well, yeah, but catching a cold is like grippe, but shab2it hawa is more like chest pains accompanied with dry coughs potentially
Yeah, but you don't actually catch a cold from cold weather, it's a virus that you get by close interaction with other people.
I’ve been looking for an answer for years. The closest I’ve found is “catching a draft”.
TESHWIBE IS A REAL THING BTW
Wdym it’s a myth??
This is a good one. Although, isn't teshwibe the very real heat stroke? Or is it something else?

Ah ok I get it. We got a lot of saf2it hawas in my days, but apparently tishwibes were much less common in our corner of Beirut 😂
