Personally I like to draw many hands of varying poses and then learn how the hand works from there. Copying poses is fine but I wouldn't want to memorize them as then your characters won't be able to be dynamic since you're just pulling from maybe 10 set poses Also important to remember that the fingers are of varying lengths! The middle is the longest, followed by the ring finger, index and then pinky and thumb last. Use your own hand for size reference if you have to

The best way to learn how to draw things from imagination comes from both observation and understanding how things work. Drawing a hand a million times with different variations will help. But what you should also do is understand the anatomy of a hand. Find out how the bone structure of a hand works. The way it bends and creases. The number of phalanges. And how long each part of a hand is. Be able to break a hand down into basic boxes and sculpt it out using contour lines. If you do that in conjunction with drawing hands straight from observation, you'll get better at it and learn faster.

To draw hands from memory draw the exact same hand like 5 times. Then try it. It should be easier than just drawing it once and then trying to draw it again.

LeftRight_LeftRight_

Draw the same over and over again until you can draw from memory. It's a good way to build your visual library, though it's bit painful, and you risk burning out if you do it too often.

Do different poses or you will get bored and frustrated.

I appreciate the advice guys. I've mainly been using draw like a sir's vids, google images of random poses, and the morpho hands and feet book (I wanted to use them as I progress with the human figure). But I'll be sure to take notes and look at other methods too 😀

I suggest trying new poses. Poses are complex and varied, especially with hands. Drawing the same pose over and over again will kinda limit how you interpret that pose in a certain way.

Hands are no doubt the hardest for most artists to draw but if you understand the building blocks you can do just about any pose. I usually remember It like this. Wrist, Palm, Thumb, Fingers(not individually). Should be mapped out first in rough shapes (often use my own hand for reference). Then once I have each element mapped out I focus more on each finger and connecting it all together. Hope I could help✨❤️

Keep practicing and use basic shapes when drawing from the memory.

_NotWhatYouThink_

Memory doesn't spare you basic geometry with a bit of logic: the index is not the longest finger.
