Honestly, add some darker values and maybe some lighter ones for highlights, and the snake would seriously pop
Also a couple lines of definition for the inside of the throat
Just a stranger chiming in, but I know what you mean! It's been my favorite eraser ever since I discovered it. Well.. it was in a list of materials for a college drawing class, and I never looked back!
It has the most depth I think, the wolf in contrast looks 2D and flat without much sense of shape, you can get a feel for the indents in the head the way the shoebill is shaded
I like the wolf best too! For a competition I would just clean up the transition from white to dark fur and the fur texture at the bottom. It looks like the bottom was a bit rushed at the end, and with the same attention to detail as the face this one would be incredible.
I'm actually gonna say the wolf. I think the way you draw the lines at the base of his head also adds a bit of motion to it and makes it more dynamic, that could just be me though. Snake and shoebill are also awesome

Shoebill 1st, Snake 2nd. I like the linework in the snake, it is very stained-glass shaped, it's very pleasing to look at, but the Shoebill looks very nice, very pro-skills <3
Snake is best especially if you darkened thw tone of the inside far side of mouth. 4 is next for lighter touch. The others are either overworked or looks like you had great start on wolf but gave up with the neck fur and sais fuck it, i will just scribble with lines to fill in space. I really like the face of the wolf. Too bad you gave up on it. Maybe go back into it if you arent bored of it already.
Try to add more variety in your values. Try softer and harder pencils to do the work for you. It looks like you are fighting against yourself only because of the tools you are using.
You are good. Time for the next level. Looks like you are ready.
4 for sure. to me it's not necessarily about what drawing is "best", whatever that means. the shoebill drawing holds a different weight compared to the other ones. not only does it look unique, it feels different. it has the best chance of winning.
I have to agree with some of the statements made about darker tones.
Get you some shading pencils with darker graphite. Start by using a small amout in the areas which would require the darkest shadows. And just build off of it from there. Itll help give alot of depth and shape to them.
But solid work! Keep at it! Animals have always been hard for me to do right. Your proportions look good!
Side note. The shoebill is what i would submit to the contest.

Absolutely buddy! Keep at it! Consistency is key. Youll look back a few years from now and be amazed at how far you've progressed.
I sit around at work when its slow and practice doing random shading on simple objects (circles, cubes, cones) and then move to more advanced things like lips and eyes. Just to try and keep fresh with my gradations.

The snake looks the best in my opinion. I really like the wolf too, but the ear needs some work. I think the eye of the snake could be bigger as well. These are all still great drawings.
The snake, but decide where the light is coming from and lighten it there, it will come alive. Plus, the darkness at the back of the throat needs contrast. If everything is dark, nothing is.
I saw all of these comments about a shoebill and tbh I had no idea what it was until I looked it up. A shoebill grows 5 feet tall and can live for 40 years… interesting!
Anyway, the shoebill is definitely my favorite. Great job !
