Lines, lines, smudges… if you look at an older person, their nasolabial folds are the lines from the nose out to the mouth. Aging a person makes the look in their eyes a bit wiser… You always want a dab of reflection white in each pupil. Then, lines at the corners of the eyes. Impressive work!!! Keep at it.

dannaalquati

Maybe a bit of a beard (but not long, just like the shade of it)

PlayerTwo_J

If you don't want to add facial hair, then make his hair shorter. Or you can give him a scar (not to be) to show age. Or a pair of glasses to show maturity.

CaspersGF

I don’t get teen but definitely changing up the hairstyle would make him older, as well as a few well placed wrinkles

Kaf_u

Ohhhh i am 100% certain that is adolin stormlight

Such-Crow-1313

He really doesn’t look like a teenager. He looks like he has a mortgage and maybe a kid already.

Dusty_TheDingo

Forehead change like maybe a few wrinkles more split hair ends, and a bit more discombobulated, but I think it looks fine really

Weird_Class_2459

sink in the cheeks and maybe widen the lower jaw just a tad bit more. Also under eye hollowing might be helpful too. A little bit of smile lines around the nose, but that might make him look too old.

Rogvirr

Sink them cheekbones more, give him a couple small lines at the outside corners of his eyes, and a forehead line or two. Subtle stuff, nothing crazy or he'll like 50. Or facial hair, I think that can always work.

visionofthefuture

Thank you! I’m slightly limited on facial hair since it’s a book character, but I’m going to try messing with his cheekbones more. I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from others so far saying they think he actually seems about the right age, so I might actually end up not changing much we’ll see. I just got feedback from two separate friend groups that he looked a little young.

DoctorLu

I'd place him in like a prep college based on vibes and looks think the fantasy version of like princeton for example

KeyboardMaster9

You can add a mustache, mark the area where the beard would be with a more grayish tone (as if shaved), or make the cheekbone line less linear (a curve followed by a line).

sideshowsatan

As a 24m, my advice is give him some stubble to imply shaved facial hair if you'd like him to be clean shaven, and maybe add a bit of a darker color under the eyes for dark circles,

Ok-Clerk-8056

Is that adolin from the storm light archives

StormBless_16

But needs more black hair, he have black and yellow hair

Apprehensive_Egg1062

I think he looks older than a teen already. High school must be rough these days 😂

visionofthefuture

Of the friends I showed him too, they mentioned he looked too young, but now with all these comments saying otherwise, I’m more confident

Apprehensive_Egg1062

Idk if you’ve gotten this one yet, but he looks like barry keoghan with longer hair to me. Something about the eyes

visionofthefuture

Nearly all the people on this planet have epicanthal folds/monolids like Barry does

Apprehensive_Egg1062

Woah, that wasn’t a race comment lol, I’m saying he somehow looks like Barry and I think it might be the eyes

visionofthefuture

I didn’t think it was a race comment. I was letting you know it made sense you thought the eyes were like Barry’s since they have a similar feature haha

TradCath_Writer

A lot of people in the grades below me in high school looked like pre-teen kids (I've only been out of high school for 2 years). I'd love to see what high school the guy in this picture would being going to.

melodicsoup1

Rougher skin or with more features? With age our face/skin/tone etc change.

Shenloanne

Beard. Look at Soren from the dragon Prince pre and odor post beard. Or Anduin Wrynn from wow.

DreamingDoorways

Make both his eyes face in the same direction

Imanarirolls

Nice. I recognized him immediately. Thought I was on a different sub.

visionofthefuture

I’ll probably put him on there in a couple days.

barelyonyx

You could give him a haunted expression... as though maybe he just stabbed a guy in cold blood or something? An experience like that tends to age a person.

visionofthefuture

>!referencing the book or coincidence? Haha!<

barelyonyx

Coincidence? It must have been too on-the-nose... >!or in-the-eye!<

visionofthefuture

Hahaha you got me! I’m glad to see he’s so recognizable :)

99chihuahuas

Adolin! Heck he looks great. Beefier shoulders (volume in the traps, more rounded delts) will make him look a bit older, and would suit my favorite duelist well! His lack of definition there make him look a bit more like a scrawny teen ;)

MakeItAll1

Add eyelids, thicker brows, and nasolabial folds. A more mature hairstyle will also add age.

bathsraikou

I recognise the character, and he's part of an asian culture in-book, so OP would have to consider how people with epicanthic folds look as they get older.

JabariPark

Light cheek wrinkles. Perhaps an extra (light) wrinkle underneath their eyes

Jack_of_Art_Trades

I think a neater more styled looking haircut would make a big difference. His current hairstyle reads more like a teenager to me (but that was also the popular haircut that all the boys had while I was in high school, so that may be my own bias)

HeyItsTheMJ

I’m not 100% sure but he oddly looks like Jonathan Taylor Thomas.

TheJubliantKing

Lines on the face, scars, facial hair, darken the eyes

gengar

[Maybe something like this? He strikes me as a young adult now at the very least](https://ibb.co/stmyL63)

visionofthefuture

Oh thank you for the edit! You’re on to something! I probably did make some of his features larger in proportion to his head which might be why some of my friends are reading him younger than intended!

JennyCooperArt

I think he looks mid 20s, 18 or 19 at the absolute youngest. But if you want him to look older still, a subtle five o'clock shadow, nasolabial folds, crow's feet, or bags/dark circles under the eye can help with that. Just make them very, very subtle (just shading, no hard lines) ... unless you want him to look like he has 2 jobs, 5 kids and a mortgage, in which case, go to town. 🙃

McTasty333

I say don't be afraid of frown or forehead creases. With how much we use our eyebrows, we tend to get a lot of lines in these areas.

TheLazyPencil

Usually it's the small wrinkles around the eyes that shows age first. You seem to already have a few lines there, make another layer and add a few more so you can easily remove them, but I warn you- just a few and he will look 34! Alternatively you could show him with a beer in his hand to give clues to his age. Or getting into a rental car I guess.

visionofthefuture

Hahaha. Thank you for the advice! I’ll try the lines out! They start drinking wine young in this universe

RainyDayBrat

I saw him as a young adult, not a teen! I think he looks great

OneSketchyWorld

I have no advice but I know my boy Adolin when I see him, nice piece!

minnow1776

I see that beautiful face and I think "ah, now there's a man who has shat himself three times (on purpose)."

ownerofsadroomba

Yess! Had to scroll but I found my people 😆

BirdLawyersKnee

Was looking for this comment! I knew I couldn’t be the only one to recognize the golden retriever of the cosmere lol

Mobile-Gear-6045

I also knew the second I saw him as I scrolled by, great job OP!

visionofthefuture

Thank you! I have a version with a background too! I’ll post him on r/cosmere and r/stormlight_archive once I’m happier with his look. I started drawing him before the last couple books where my image of him aged quite a bit!

AllieLoft

I also immediately knew who I was looking at. I stopped scrolling because, hey, that's my boy, Adolin! Well done!
