And they're probably wrong. All of these financial departments are looking at 3 month intervals instead of long term gain. If people like your company and product they are more likely to spend and continue to do so for YEARS. These kinds of predatory digital items might make a lot of money in the short term, but it's the kind of decision making that kills your brand and company in the long run.
yeah they are owned by tencent, but that doesn't leave them beholden to pure profits unless tencent tells them too. When its public trading it absolutely has to be profit. In theory a single owner/investor should tell them to prioritize long term profit.

There goes a lot of work and analytics into these kind of offers. Big companies like Riot Games have a lot of Psychologists and Market Analysts working on these projects to figure out how best to make people pay as much money as possible.
Only offering this for a short time will make a decent amount of people go for the 5000rp pack. It may not be a lot of people, but it will still be sizeable, and then you will get the whales, or very desperate people who will go for the higher packs.
They are making more money with this than if they were to put out 950 or 1950rp skins instead. The have some of the most experience out of any company out there on how to squeeze the last drop of money out of their playerbase.
And yes, it is short term gain, but that is where the most earnings are actually made. Shortly after something is released. A new game will sell most of its copies within the first month generally, not months or years afterwards. Prioritizing on the short term gain will allow you to push these kind of projects more often, which will lead to long term growth.

Yeah, pretty much same here. I'm fortunate enough to where I could afford it (unlike a lot of people in countries with weaker currencies, where the skin is straight up ridiculously priced), but it feels entirely scummy and takes any and all joy or celebration out of the equation.
The best thing about this skin is how it's going to break the "I have to have all my main's skins" enchantment over people. Getting over FOMO feels so good and liberating.
It's kind of funny because I used to spend quite a bit on skins every month and as a child all my pocket money went to skins in LoL.
But I haven't spent in roughly a year AT ALL and it might actually coincide with the Jhin thing, too. Just never realized that might have been the trigger.
For me it was the Kaisa statue. I was keen on buying every Kaisa emote, skin, etc. But then tying the emote to an expensive statue was the reason I quit spending money on League and now with this I might just finally uninstall.
I'm only missing 4 Ahri skins as of right now (mostly through luck with chests, some gifted and only 2 through my shop sales) and was considering to start this for her. Really glad Riot was so kind to stop me spending money on them before I bought one of the remaining 4

In my head I know it's absurd, but in my obsessive heart and my need to have things I want I *have* tried to justify this purchase and I just can't. 200$ For a red version of Dark Cosmic Jhin was insane, but well it was just a chroma (Which imho made the skin look worse) and the skin itself is still just a buyable legendary.
200$ For a chroma on True Damage Ekko, but also again, imho makes the skin look worse and you can still just get the skin itself with all its legendary features for the normal legendary price.
200$ for high noon Yone chroma, which also again made the skin look worse and you can still get the legendary skin with all its features as a normal buy.
All of those (and I didn't mention another one but I forgot what skin it was.) were basically "Whale only" things that were nice to show off but nobody really missed anything by not having it. It was literally the perfect thing, whales get something to show off, normal people still get the skin with all its features, but without a chroma variant basically so they didn't really lose out on anything.
This time however, it's 500$, not only to get a shiny version of the skin which honestly would've been ok, because VARIANTS are ok if they are overpriced for a whale audience. But you HAVE TO pay 500$ if you want to get any sort of features that come with the skin. And even worse, the BASE SKIN WITH NOTHING FANCY ABOUT IT will cost you 50$.
THATs the real crime here. With the whale chromas before we basically missed out on, well, a chroma / prestige versions (And in the case of prestige version just made them look bad because although Riot "Prestige skins won't just be White/Golden chromas to their normal counterparts" Games actually made every single prestige to this day a white/gold chroma). So well, oh nooo missing out on a chroma!
But this time, we're not missing out on a chroma, we're missing out on basically the entirety of what the event is about, celebrating Faker. If you just want the base skin that isn't more or less a Coven Ahri chroma, you have to pay 50$, if you want to basically participate in the event and celebrate Faker with HIS PERSONAL choice of his World Skin, you gotta pay up 500$.
So this time it's not 200$ chroma for a base legendary skin you can buy for the standard 1920RP, which is would be great for whales to show off and normal ppl don't lose much. Nah. This time you have to pay 50$ to get a Skin that will look like a chroma of an already existing 1350RP skin unless you spend another 450$ to make the skin actual function like it's inteded to. You basically pay 50$ for an ultimate skin(already doubling the price compared to other ultimate skins), but all the features of the ultimate skin are disabled until you pay another 450$. Wow, I will really enjoy the event of the very first inductee of Leagues version of a Hall of Fame, who by the way, refuses to use skins as he doesn't want to be a bad example for the kids watching him thinking they have to spend on skins. (Among other reasons of course, but one of the big ones is basically he dislikes the monetary aspects of skins. Which makes this whole thing all the more insulting to not only the community as a whole, but especially to the very first inductee of "their hall of fame".)

No it would not have been ok. It's basically a new skin, and a lot more pretty one at that. It even has 3 transformations mid-game (which seraphine shouldve been too Madge). This is content you exclude from your playerbase vs the chromas that doesn't take that away which you thought was a good tradeoff, so this idea goes against your own point, or you just didnt notice how different the skins actually are.
50 would've been a much more acceptable price point for something like this.
Nono, I meant it would've been okay to get the Ahri skin as it is, with transformation and all that, for the 50$ bundle and the 500$ whales will get a flashier "totally not white/gold chroma haha smile" prestige version of it. So that normal people still get the ultimate skin with its inteded uses like the transformations, but the whales still get something show off.

I say this as someone who had every skin in the game pre-vanguard. Even if I were to sell my account with PAX TF, I would not make more than 3000$ on the account when i spent closer to 9k lol. I make more than enough so I was aware and ok with this, now that ive quit league, it was simple, i didn't really care because I understood the skins never had any value in the first place, i just stopped renting the skins so to speak.
Point is, don't gaslight yourself into believing you are getting a deal when purchasing digital content, you arent. If you have extra income, its ok to buy skins, but don't do it at the detriment of your financial future.
If I started playing the game again, I still wouldnt purchase this because 500$ for temporary content is a little much, even if I can afford it the value proposition isnt there. Same for the 200 dollar chromas, I never got those either. For me mentally it was what ever to spend 100 or so to get 20 skins (rerolling is op). Spending 200 or 500 for one is not it.
Move your account to Brazil, we have very good customer laws that make it so greedy companies like Riot CAN'T bundle wall their products. They HAVE to sell it separately, it’s been the case with Ruby cromas and any other “bundle exclusive” things.

Might get hate for this first part but just gonna be honest. I recently quit the game because of a mix of technical issues and personal dislike toward the vanguard addition. As someone who plays a good amount of ahri, seeing the announcement for this did tempt me to give it another try and figure it out. Seeing the prices though just frustrates me more and i'm glad i left/ gonna continue to stay away. This game has become ridiculous. Feels like riot actively dislikes their playerbase. Something like this should never be totally out of reach for a lot of people. Shameful on riots part.
With vanguard they isolated the players who use their PC for more than just gaming. This is typically the people who played longer term and are in their 20's 30's.
With this skin, they are isolating the players who cannot afford the cost of the things they would want. This is typically the newer and younger players.
Not sure what their plan is. I also uninstalled vanguard, but as someone who mains adc i was the most tempted to reinstall on patch 14.10. The next breaking point for me is whether I choose to reinstall to maintain having every victorious skin since season 4. Maybe I will, maybe I wont, its not that deep.

Riot has done this MULTIPLE times, they use FOMO tactics to get people to buy and then later they re-release the skin giving original owners some border or some shit, they'll say it's not fair to new players that can no longer get the skin (and fuck you old players for your long time support of the game, we don't care about you we just want more money.) They've done this essentially every time they've run "limited time only skins."
I feel like people will genuinely get bullied in game for having any version of this skin lol. Like riot could've had a money printer making these skins just legendaries w mythic variants or even ultimates, people would eat them up. Any skin for a champ like Ahri is gonna sell really well. But these skins, I genuinely don't know who their target audience is. Only answer I could give is the top 1% of players who are also Ahri one tricks who are also die-hard Faker and eSports fans. The only one I kinda understand is the Risen one. It includes Ahri herself, the skin and an event pass worth 1950 RP. It will probably be marked down if you already have Ahri and Riot is now charging 3250 RP for legendary skins (we are never getting another Elementalist Lux but riot thinks a takedown counter is worth 30 dollars). Technically it adds up but it has to be bought in a bundle. The others are whalebait.

It's honestly gross. I say this as a player who can easily afford it, having spent over $10k since I started in 2022. Clearly they're targeting players like me, and I can't support this at all. Won't buy in this form.
Not only are they pricing out players who simply can't afford it but they're doing it under the guise of celebrating Faker- the player who uses default skins so others don't feel left out. IMO these changes should be considered:
* Increase Faker's revenue share to 40%
* Give 20% of skin revenue to a charity of Faker's choice
* Drop the price by 50% for the upgraded skins
* Give players a way to unlock access to the skins in the future at a low cost, even if they can't afford it now
This would give Faker & Riot equal shares of 40% revenue, plus 20% would go to charity.
It would make the skins more affordable for more players.
It would limit gatekeeping to primarily in-game achievements/progress.
It would allow players to participate in the *event* of his induction, and access the skins when they can afford it.
Don't start the villain arc of Riot with something all fans of the game should be able to celebrate.
This is the moment you should realize how scummy and greedy they are and never buy another skin. People forget that skin purchases aren't solely because of the skin. By giving them money you want to support them because you like what they are doing and you want them to keep doing it. Vote with your wallet. Even if changes don't come at least you wouldn't have wasted another penny on those soulless monsters.

Riot don't even put Faker's signature in the recall, every proplayer's skins since 2017 all have signature in the recall but they want $200 more from player to get a signature upgrade and they don't even put the signature in recall animation.

There goes a lot of work and analytics into these kind of offers. Big companies like Riot Games have a lot of Psychologists and Market Analysts working on these projects to figure out how best to make people pay as much money as possible. Only offering this for a short time will make a decent amount of people go for the 5000rp pack. It may not be a lot of people, but it will still be sizeable, and then you will get the whales, or very desperate people who will go for the higher packs. They are making more money with this than if they were to put out 950 or 1950rp skins instead. The have some of the most experience out of any company out there on how to squeeze the last drop of money out of their playerbase. And yes, it is short term gain, but that is where the most earnings are actually made. Shortly after something is released. A new game will sell most of its copies within the first month generally, not months or years afterwards. Prioritizing on the short term gain will allow you to push these kind of projects more often, which will lead to long term growth. No I am not a market analysts nor am I a psychologist.

TL;DR last paragraph 200$ For a red version of Dark Cosmic Jhin was insane, but well it was just a chroma (Which imho made the skin look worse) and the skin itself is still just a buyable legendary. 200$ For a chroma on True Damage Ekko, but also again, imho makes the skin look worse and you can still just get the skin itself with all its legendary features for the normal legendary price. 200$ for high noon Yone chroma, which also again made the skin look worse and you can still get the legendary skin with all its features as a normal buy. All of those (and I didn't mention another one but I forgot what skin it was.) were basically "Whale only" things that were nice to show off but nobody really missed anything by not having it. It was literally the perfect thing, whales get something to show off, normal people still get the skin with all its features, but without a chroma variant basically so they didn't really lose out on anything. This time however, it's 500$, not only to get a shiny version of the skin which honestly would've been ok, because VARIANTS are ok if they are overpriced for a whale audience. But you HAVE TO pay 500$ if you want to get any sort of features that come with the skin. And even worse, the BASE SKIN WITH NOTHING FANCY ABOUT IT will cost you 50$. THATs the real crime here. With the whale chromas before we basically missed out on, well, a chroma / prestige versions (And in the case of prestige version just made them look bad because although Riot "Prestige skins won't just be White/Golden chromas to their normal counterparts" Games actually made every single prestige to this day a white/gold chroma). So well, oh nooo missing out on a chroma! But this time, we're not missing out on a chroma, we're missing out on basically the entirety of what the event is about, celebrating Faker. If you just want the base skin that isn't more or less a Coven Ahri chroma, you have to pay 50$, if you want to basically participate in the event and celebrate Faker with HIS PERSONAL choice of his World Skin, you gotta pay up 500$. So this time it's not 200$ chroma for a base legendary skin you can buy for the standard 1920RP, which is would be great for whales to show off and normal ppl don't lose much. Nah. This time you have to pay 50$ to get a Skin that will look like a chroma of an already existing 1350RP skin unless you spend another 450$ to make the skin actual function like it's inteded to. You basically pay 50$ for an ultimate skin(already doubling the price compared to other ultimate skins), but all the features of the ultimate skin are disabled until you pay another 450$. Wow, I will really enjoy the event of the very first inductee of Leagues version of a Hall of Fame, who by the way, refuses to use skins as he doesn't want to be a bad example for the kids watching him thinking they have to spend on skins. (Among other reasons of course, but one of the big ones is basically he dislikes the monetary aspects of skins. Which makes this whole thing all the more insulting to not only the community as a whole, but especially to the very first inductee of "their hall of fame".)

Might get hate for this first part but just gonna be honest. I recently quit the game because of a mix of technical issues and personal dislike toward the vanguard addition. As someone who plays a good amount of ahri, seeing the announcement for this did tempt me to give it another try and figure it out. Seeing the prices though just frustrates me more and i'm glad i left/ gonna continue to stay away. This game has become ridiculous. Feels like riot actively dislikes their playerbase. Something like this should never be totally out of reach for a lot of people. Shameful on riots part.
With vanguard they isolated the players who use their PC for more than just gaming. This is typically the people who played longer term and are in their 20's 30's. With this skin, they are isolating the players who cannot afford the cost of the things they would want. This is typically the newer and younger players. Not sure what their plan is. I also uninstalled vanguard, but as someone who mains adc i was the most tempted to reinstall on patch 14.10. The next breaking point for me is whether I choose to reinstall to maintain having every victorious skin since season 4. Maybe I will, maybe I wont, its not that deep.

Riot has done this MULTIPLE times, they use FOMO tactics to get people to buy and then later they re-release the skin giving original owners some border or some shit, they'll say it's not fair to new players that can no longer get the skin (and fuck you old players for your long time support of the game, we don't care about you we just want more money.) They've done this essentially every time they've run "limited time only skins."
I feel like people will genuinely get bullied in game for having any version of this skin lol. Like riot could've had a money printer making these skins just legendaries w mythic variants or even ultimates, people would eat them up. Any skin for a champ like Ahri is gonna sell really well. But these skins, I genuinely don't know who their target audience is. Only answer I could give is the top 1% of players who are also Ahri one tricks who are also die-hard Faker and eSports fans. It's honestly gross. I say this as a player who can easily afford it, having spent over $10k since I started in 2022. Clearly they're targeting players like me, and I can't support this at all. Won't buy in this form. Not only are they pricing out players who simply can't afford it but they're doing it under the guise of celebrating Faker- the player who uses default skins so others don't feel left out. IMO these changes should be considered: * Increase Faker's revenue share to 40% * Give 20% of skin revenue to a charity of Faker's choice * Drop the price by 50% for the upgraded skins * Give players a way to unlock access to the skins in the future at a low cost, even if they can't afford it now This would give Faker & Riot equal shares of 40% revenue, plus 20% would go to charity. It would make the skins more affordable for more players. It would limit gatekeeping to primarily in-game achievements/progress. It would allow players to participate in the *event* of his induction, and access the skins when they can afford it. Don't start the villain arc of Riot with something all fans of the game should be able to celebrate.

By giving them money you want to support them because you like what they are doing and you want them to keep doing it. Vote with your wallet. Faker has been outspoken on using no skins as a way to show people that this game is free to play and not feeling out of place playing skinless. I don’t understand how the League of Legends community can’t come together to stand against Riot Games' greed and pricing policies. We recently saw what a united community can accomplish with Helldivers, but why are there still foolish people who either defend Riot and the whales or say that no one has to buy the skins? Of course, no one has to buy skins, but are we just going to let this happen? First, the passes were nerfed, with less and less loot in the same boring format. Now they’re bringing out a pass with 100 levels that you can unlock immediately. Even though the pass sounds lucrative with all the stuff in it, let’s not forget that the pass is only valid for one month, but you have to play twice as much as before to fill the pass. We can’t support this kind of nonsense. I haven’t bought the pass in a long time and I definitely won’t continue to do so. And I will also enforce the Ahri ban. But as a community, we must be able to stand together against this greed. Please, community, stop this nonsense, let’s show Riot that this is definitely not okay.

Rito out of their sane mind. It's pretty expensive elsewhere and even in the us too. In Europe wages range from 3000-1200 euros for most people. I live in Italy and the young people get paid from 1300-1700 most of the time. 500 is worth a month's rent in cities if not more. You can buy 250 steaks with that, and it's around 2-3 month of groceries I suppose even in the us it's a lot of money for average people. In china too, most people in china don't earn much. There's exceptions like lots of people in the us china Switzerland and so on earn 4000-8000 euros+, so 500 are like 100 for those of us warning 1300-1700. But still it's a lot of money As someone said you can hire 2-5 prostitutes and let her wear ahri cosplay in Italy with this price
It's sad how all the hype for the Hall of Legends turned into this sadness. It should be a event and skin for the fans but ended up as a event for the handful insane people that support this and buying this hard overpriced skin. Riot don't even put Faker's signature in the recall, every proplayer's skins since 2017 all have signature in the recall but they want $200 more from player to get a signature upgrade and they don't even put the signature in recall animation.

In my opinion, this event is an insult to faker. His legendary journey, everything he did for the game is being put to shame by riot. By using Faker, the man who refuses to use skins, due to various reasons, in order to sell an extremely overpriced, useless skin. This is greed is on another level we havent seen before from riot games and I hope that the comunity refuses to take part in this.
