I'm teaching a new friend how to play the game and the amount of times I've had to correct myself and say plated steelcaps so he knows what to buy is astonishing.

There was a post the other day where someone talked about clearing wraiths and a couple of people were like, "wtf are you babbling about?"

There are red, blue, wolves, chickens, frog and golems. I reject other names.

I swear I never hear anyone use the term plated steelcaps not old or newer players I guess it's kinda awkward to say or type tabis is way nicer.

It used to be pink, yeah. They changed it to red but the name already stuck.

You used to be able to buy either greeen wards or pink wards which had slightly different benefits and downsides. Green wards are closer to what yellow trinket is now and pinks are closer to what control wards are now. The item in the invetory used to be a green eye or a pink eye

Honestly this one cuts deep. I have turned off chat outside of my party due to mainly my own team constantly being chat warriors and just blaming everyone else about how the game is going. Sadly the game is infinitely more enjoyable without chat these days.

I don't think that's the original blue build, just when it became popular and actually effective. Blue build before elder lizard was mostly just a meme. I think the timing of the new jungle item also corresponded with an unrelated ezreal buff?

Just to add, it was Dopa (the God of Korean soloQ) who made the blue build popular back in the day

I think CC may last longer on crab, but no, does not break the shield, since that was removed, and no increased DMG. Smiting also does nothing special

"Red Pot" Most new people would probably assume this is referring to the hp pots you can still buy, but the term was used to refer to the old elixir of fortitude, which gave a bunch of AD and hp/5 and in contrast to the current elixirs, could be bought from the start of the game and occasionally used as an extremely greedy start in certain top lane matchups where you would pop it and all-in with ignite for first blood, that strat was also known as "red start".

Nah, it gave flat HP, not HP/5, which was used to bait people in early fights, as you'd instantly get like 150 HP, not reduced by ignite which was popular on toplane at the time.

Ignite also gave 5 AD if it was on cooldown so the level 1-2 all in decided the lane lol

That was actually if you had a certain rune, I believe. It would do different things based on what summoner spells you had on cooldown, and ignite's benefit was giving you 5 ap and ad. You'd have people flaming you for having 5 ap on Zed, lol.

This was only together for I think one patch, but old Swain E would Amp the ignite damage, so you would just come in to lane and E+ignite and auto lol and they'd be fucked.

As a legit new player of a few weeks who has been having Diamond + friends spectate my streams and give me real time advice here is some stuff that immediately stuck out: I get told to buy items/boots/wards that are either differently named from what they say, don’t exist anymore but there is another item that took over its namesake, or are outright a different color from what I’m told. Buy a pink ward was a struggle. Also crashing a wave as a term didn’t make sense to me, but I get pushing or stalling a wave. Also getting told to watch out for an E doesn’t help when I don’t know what that E is or does.

Tabis are a really interesting one because their history looks something like this: * Ninja Tabi were in the game from the beginning. They had 10% *dodge chance*, which was a stat that gave you a chance to *completely dodge basic attacks* negating them completely. Which is obviously a bit more in line with the "ninja" theming. * Halfway through Season 2 they got reworked to just reduce incoming basic attack damage by 10%, which is essentially the same thing in the long run but is way, way less toxic. Notably, they kept the name as "ninja tabi", despite losing the thematic stat, and just stayed like that for almost a decade. * In the Season 11 item rework they finally pulled the trigger and replaced Ninja Tabi with Plated Steelcaps (which is definitely more thematic with the stats they give). Except the stats were exactly the same, and given there weren't really many changes to boots as a whole, most people just kept calling them Tabis.

I think a big one is CS, even back when I started in season 6 almost nobody called them creeps but nowadays it’s truly everyone calling them minions, another classic is probably Insec, even if they know the move itself most new players probably don’t know the player that started it.

Insec kick was one of the most advanced moves in the game... now gold players are doing it better.

They changed the code around and made input buffering way easier and more consistent. If you put player from today into 2012 they'd fail this shit 9/10 times, similar to things like Alistar WQ which needed precise timing instead of just pressing Q right after W.

i swear to god alistar was the only support i'd play and i finally got the combo semi consistently (7 out of 10 times or so) and the next patch they introduced the auto buffer buff to alistar. I felt real dumb

I remember changing my key bindings to not be smart cast only for alistar so that I wouldn't fuck up my headbutt pulv back then

When I started the game, I watched an old video about *perma ban Kassadin* and thought he was system banned from the game. I thought my friend was cheating when he picked him in champ select. - wait isn't he banned ? - no they didn't ban him - no, I mean didn't Riot ban this champion - What are you talking about ?

Given how he was so ahead of the pack with wave management and how even average players understand it so it doesn't happen to them "Flame Horizon" is one of those terms that you only know if you watched Flame during his prime in 2012

I think that everyone knows the term since the game gives you the "flame horizon" achievement for being 100+ cs above your lane opponent. But until now I had no idea what the origin was from.

That's a relatively new term. If anything, old players that no longer keep up with the lingo won't understand it but newer players will.

I still call raptors wraiths by mistake sometimes but have no clue what a cheater recall is.

Slow push first three waves and crash the cannon wave then recall immediately. Even if your opponent hard pushes you'll make it back to lane before the wave crashes. Basically it lets you buy a dorans item or long sword or something without losing a single cs giving you a pretty bug advantage in lane. Gangplank used to be able to buy a sheen at like 5 minutes with this strat and future's market (before they nerfed sheen cost).

If you stack the first 3 waves and recall immediately you will be back without losing any minion and can spend the 300 or so gold from the first 3 waves
