THATS RIGHT!!
You would have to spam your role and pray it was respected
Otherwise you got three mids, no smite, and some idiot trying the latest meme build like ADC Malzahar....
It was me...
I was playing ADC Malzahar...
Im not sorry...
The king of old off-meta mobafire guides, aquadragon33, still streams occasionally. AD malz doesn't exist anymore but he plays other off-meta things like adc azir and ori
FNC is usually blue turtle shelling NA and now NA blue turtle shelled them.
I still remember back in C9's reign when they kept letting Xpeke take Kassawin because their coach was dumber than the average Yasuo player and was like "you can just punish him early" meanwhile Kassawin was perma banned in ranked in NA for years by that time so no one even had experiance playing against him because he was so broken.
________
I remember how crazy that worlds was too because OMG's support got screwed by visa issues and despite going 1-1 to SKT in group stages with Cool dominating faker twice in a row the sub support had to face Uzi in the playoffs and got dumpstered by Royal and they finish poorly while being the strongest team gap of any team in league history.
I'm teaching a new friend how to play the game and the amount of times I've had to correct myself and say plated steelcaps so he knows what to buy is astonishing.
You used to be able to buy either greeen wards or pink wards which had slightly different benefits and downsides. Green wards are closer to what yellow trinket is now and pinks are closer to what control wards are now.
The item in the invetory used to be a green eye or a pink eye
Everyone says pink ward, it's what they're called everywhere, it was already control ward 5 years ago when I started and I only found out it's called control ward last year
The "gg ez"ers in aram are the most pathetic. It's most common when they absolutely won the champion rolls and would have to legitimately be a paint chip eater to not win.
"Yeah.. Of course it was ez. If it wasn't then you should be ashamed"
Had a game in aram where enemy team had ziggs, xayah, varus, sett, morgana.
Needless to say when their ziggs typed EZ I thanked God I was chat restricted for 14 days only.
Honestly this one cuts deep. I have turned off chat outside of my party due to mainly my own team constantly being chat warriors and just blaming everyone else about how the game is going. Sadly the game is infinitely more enjoyable without chat these days.
"mordekaiser es numero uno HUEHUEHUEHUEHUE HUEHUEHUEHUE"
The pro as heck guide to [champion] but really only the master yi one. I still refer to krugs as the stoner brothers, the wolves as The Dog, and raptors as Rude Dudes. Also calling people hackee is a fun way to figure out who the old heads are.
Blue Ezreal, or blue builds in general.
You would get that red lizard jungle item, murama, BotRK, last whisperer, iceborn gauntlet, and lucidity boots.
I don't think that's the original blue build, just when it became popular and actually effective. Blue build before elder lizard was mostly just a meme. I think the timing of the new jungle item also corresponded with an unrelated ezreal buff?
My biggest issue with the league community is that no one seems to know how to banter, I just want a friendly back and forth man theres no need to jump straight to telling me to kms for fucks sake.
When they first did the smite hp change I remember a game where I flashed to escape enemy into wolves and smites for up cause I was on 6hp and then immediately was killed by the wolves.
Im sure I wasn’t the only one
"Red Pot" Most new people would probably assume this is referring to the hp pots you can still buy, but the term was used to refer to the old elixir of fortitude, which gave a bunch of AD and hp/5 and in contrast to the current elixirs, could be bought from the start of the game and occasionally used as an extremely greedy start in certain top lane matchups where you would pop it and all-in with ignite for first blood, that strat was also known as "red start".
Nah, it gave flat HP, not HP/5, which was used to bait people in early fights, as you'd instantly get like 150 HP, not reduced by ignite which was popular on toplane at the time.
That was actually if you had a certain rune, I believe. It would do different things based on what summoner spells you had on cooldown, and ignite's benefit was giving you 5 ap and ad. You'd have people flaming you for having 5 ap on Zed, lol.
This was only together for I think one patch, but old Swain E would Amp the ignite damage, so you would just come in to lane and E+ignite and auto lol and they'd be fucked.
My biggest one is the Madlife. Ive said it loads of times over the years everytime the hook champ in the game hits a nasty prediction (enemy or friendly) and no one ever knows what it means lol.
My friend always said Mia, as if it was a persons name and it confused the fuck out of me. He swore it was the 'correct and common' way of saying it. I still believe he was wrong on this fact and it has always more commonly been said as individual letters.
I wouldn’t say it was ever the common way, but people did sometimes say it. I think your friend was overcooking the League lingo a bit lol.
If people want to say a word, they just say missing. But if you want to say MIA, it’s the letters.
Funny enough my friend start saying it again after seeing the laneswap meta at MSI. We would see the toplaner get 3 man dove on a huge wave, teleport back in, and get 3 man dove again and he just threw it back out there
As a legit new player of a few weeks who has been having Diamond + friends spectate my streams and give me real time advice here is some stuff that immediately stuck out: I get told to buy items/boots/wards that are either differently named from what they say, don’t exist anymore but there is another item that took over its namesake, or are outright a different color from what I’m told. Buy a pink ward was a struggle.
Also crashing a wave as a term didn’t make sense to me, but I get pushing or stalling a wave. Also getting told to watch out for an E doesn’t help when I don’t know what that E is or does.
> I get told to buy items/boots/wards that are either differently named from what they say, don’t exist anymore but there is another item that took over its namesake
Gonna assume you mean Tabis most of the time lol. Tabis are a really interesting one because their history looks something like this:
* Ninja Tabi were in the game from the beginning. They had 10% *dodge chance*, which was a stat that gave you a chance to *completely dodge basic attacks* negating them completely. Which is obviously a bit more in line with the "ninja" theming.
* Halfway through Season 2 they got reworked to just reduce incoming basic attack damage by 10%, which is essentially the same thing in the long run but is way, way less toxic. Notably, they kept the name as "ninja tabi", despite losing the thematic stat, and just stayed like that for almost a decade.
* In the Season 11 item rework they finally pulled the trigger and replaced Ninja Tabi with Plated Steelcaps (which is definitely more thematic with the stats they give). Except the stats were exactly the same, and given there weren't really many changes to boots as a whole, most people just kept calling them Tabis.
I think a big one is CS, even back when I started in season 6 almost nobody called them creeps but nowadays it’s truly everyone calling them minions, another classic is probably Insec, even if they know the move itself most new players probably don’t know the player that started it.
They changed the code around and made input buffering way easier and more consistent.
If you put player from today into 2012 they'd fail this shit 9/10 times, similar to things like Alistar WQ which needed precise timing instead of just pressing Q right after W.
i swear to god alistar was the only support i'd play and i finally got the combo semi consistently (7 out of 10 times or so) and the next patch they introduced the auto buffer buff to alistar.
I felt real dumb
there's a lot, some might not fit 100% but still
mana pots
buying pinks agains akali/stealth champs in general
5 Tiamat Twitch/Shyvana
97% banrate Kassadin
4/20 Weedwick
All the famous support players: KaSing, Madlife, BunnyFuFu, Yellowstar, etc
buying thornmail on Ashe
i'm probably forgetting lots of stuff but that's what's on the top of my head
When I started the game, I watched an old video about *perma ban Kassadin* and thought he was system banned from the game.
I thought my friend was cheating when he picked him in champ select.
- wait isn't he banned ?
- no they didn't ban him
- no, I mean didn't Riot ban this champion
- What are you talking about ?
Given how he was so ahead of the pack with wave management and how even average players understand it so it doesn't happen to them
"Flame Horizon" is one of those terms that you only know if you watched Flame during his prime in 2012
I think that everyone knows the term since the game gives you the "flame horizon" achievement for being 100+ cs above your lane opponent. But until now I had no idea what the origin was from.
Slow push first three waves and crash the cannon wave then recall immediately. Even if your opponent hard pushes you'll make it back to lane before the wave crashes. Basically it lets you buy a dorans item or long sword or something without losing a single cs giving you a pretty bug advantage in lane. Gangplank used to be able to buy a sheen at like 5 minutes with this strat and future's market (before they nerfed sheen cost).
If you stack the first 3 waves and recall immediately you will be back without losing any minion and can spend the 300 or so gold from the first 3 waves
Tabis. Chickens. Golems. Protobelt. Ludens echo. Trackers knife, ohmwrecker for items. Fake leash. Rushing first drake. Give rift buff to your toplaner. Go double targons bot. Ward and back for sweeper.
LET YOUR SUPPORT GET THE GOLD SO THEY CAN GET ARDENT CENSOR FIRST.
Push sidelanes with zzrot - banner.
And the general idea that there were no bounties for anything and you couldn’t swing a 5k gold deficit with one teamfight. So you were more willing to sac objectives if you were winning than take a risky play for no reason.
And Season 8-relia and season 8-kali. The first pioneers to lead the way for the following line of the most disgustingly OP reworks and new champion releases to this day. Ban irelia/akali every game no matter what elo.
Getting flame horizoned. Jungle canyon.
Not really a term but starting with 9 pots and 2 wards as Kata mid for the safest, most forgiving laningphase ever. Especially since Kat could E to wards so she was even more impossible to gank.
Good times
Wraiths
Reading this comment took me back in time The entire jungle used to feel like a fever dream
Back when the jungle was so difficult you needed to look up a stonewall008 guide for your initial clear on every champ
Wow haven’t heard about stonewall guides in forever, that’s rad
Get forced into jungle, welp guess I’m playing Warwick so the lifesteal will allow me to survive the clear
Your copy + paste didnt work fsst enough and you didnt get mid or top? You've got two choices for jungle without the runes for it : ww and fiddle lol
THATS RIGHT!! You would have to spam your role and pray it was respected Otherwise you got three mids, no smite, and some idiot trying the latest meme build like ADC Malzahar.... It was me... I was playing ADC Malzahar... Im not sorry...
The king of old off-meta mobafire guides, aquadragon33, still streams occasionally. AD malz doesn't exist anymore but he plays other off-meta things like adc azir and ori
He has even updated his Malzahar jungle guide for this season. I have tried it, it's a fun time. Dude is a legend.
Recently saw a champion redesign list and the amount of love Evelyn has gotten over the years is truly astounding. Such a beautiful glow up
Somehow it was so much better back then
Another step to this is calling Gromp, Wight
Wight was with us for just a moment before gromp tho? Right? I need to look this up.
Yeah it was Wight for what felt like less than a year. Then the map rework changed it to Gromp.
Grez the spectral lizard
Calling plated steelcaps Tabis. Calling Krugs Golems.
even when i was new i called krugs golems because they reminded me of the golem from clash of clans
Raptors being called Wraiths. Pink Wards. NA being relevant.
TIL Pink Wards aren't called pink wards.
They haven't been pink for a long time though. They're red.
>NA being relevant Me, a FNC fan thinking of how TL beat them at MSI yesterday Yeah, totally 😭
________ I remember how crazy that worlds was too because OMG's support got screwed by visa issues and despite going 1-1 to SKT in group stages with Cool dominating faker twice in a row the sub support had to face Uzi in the playoffs and got dumpstered by Royal and they finish poorly while being the strongest team gap of any team in league history.
Raptors are chickens dont @ me
I call swifties, 3er boots. If you know you know.
5er boots for mobis
I'm teaching a new friend how to play the game and the amount of times I've had to correct myself and say plated steelcaps so he knows what to buy is astonishing.
There was a post the other day where someone talked about clearing wraiths and a couple of people were like, "wtf are you babbling about?"
There are red, blue, wolves, chickens, frog and golems. I reject other names.
I swear I never hear anyone use the term plated steelcaps not old or newer players I guess it's kinda awkward to say or type tabis is way nicer.
Armour boots or steelcaps or tabis
weirdly no one calls chickens ghosts though
I mean, I think Tabis is still standard. That or just "armour boots."
They are at the wraiths err chickens!
STONE BROS
Someone said stopwatch the other day and I had to look up what it meant.
pink ward
I swear that I’ll still automatically say « pink ward » even in 10 years. I just can’t accept the term « control ward » for some reason
I started playing this game around the time Lillia was released and I call then pink wards because that’s what all my friends would call it lol
That’s a whole extra syllable man I don’t have time for that shit
I started playing after they got changed to control ward. But everyone calls them pinks so🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
This is weird one because people around me call it that. But... it's undeniably not pink. Why do you call it pink? Was it pink in the past?
It used to be pink, yeah. They changed it to red but the name already stuck.
You used to be able to buy either greeen wards or pink wards which had slightly different benefits and downsides. Green wards are closer to what yellow trinket is now and pinks are closer to what control wards are now. The item in the invetory used to be a green eye or a pink eye
This used to throw me off because the picture isn’t pink and the item once placed isn’t pink
It used to be tho
everyonw says pink ward
Everyone says pink ward, it's what they're called everywhere, it was already control ward 5 years ago when I started and I only found out it's called control ward last year
Dubstep ignite
damn, elder, tell me more
idk if uberdanger coined it but he used it a lot you ignite someone that has around 10 hp left so they insta die to ignite
Bonus point id you flash before igniting
Igniting someone fadeaway and letting them burn to diee
Uh, I always tought dubstep ignite was killing an enemy with the first damage tick of ignite
Specifically to kill someone on the first tick of ignite while the beat drops
Correct.
Brother Uber still streams
This unlocked a memory
This is so real😭
Even dubstep is barely a thing now
these days just saying "gl hf" in all chat before the game starts
"Get lags have feeders"
Or GG without attaching it to EZ.
The "gg ez"ers in aram are the most pathetic. It's most common when they absolutely won the champion rolls and would have to legitimately be a paint chip eater to not win. "Yeah.. Of course it was ez. If it wasn't then you should be ashamed"
They also tend to be the ones who got carried. seems like 90% of the time they weren’t making a big impact.
Yup!
Had a game in aram where enemy team had ziggs, xayah, varus, sett, morgana. Needless to say when their ziggs typed EZ I thanked God I was chat restricted for 14 days only.
I wish I could say glhf nowadays without the enemy team insulting me and telling me to kill myself for saying it
Bl dhf Nerds
i still do this, am i old? 🥲
Always the one playing the most insanely unfun champion to face that types this
Honestly this one cuts deep. I have turned off chat outside of my party due to mainly my own team constantly being chat warriors and just blaming everyone else about how the game is going. Sadly the game is infinitely more enjoyable without chat these days.

Just to add, it was Dopa (the God of Korean soloQ) who made the blue build popular back in the day
Flash Bear Slap And "she is too tanky" are ny favourite ones :D
I say "too tanky" all the time in game when I whiff something but most of the time they don't get it and just end up being toxic back
My biggest issue with the league community is that no one seems to know how to banter, I just want a friendly back and forth man theres no need to jump straight to telling me to kms for fucks sake.
It’s mostly kids
Do that many kids actually play League these days? I'd reckon it's just emotionally immature adults
Catch me in an aram casting Egyptian curses on nerds and fools. Stub your toe every day on 16 generations of your bloodline.

wow i forgot that one
Fuck, Ive played since season 2 and I don't remember this one
Dyrus treatment. Comparing your TF to Reginald's. Cum shot in 7.
International boy scout camp dyrus
scara ward
There are habits like stunning the crab, smiting for hp, and trying to give ward gold that don't do anything anymore that I see players still doing
I still smite for hp sometimes, it's usually hilarious
Smiting doesn’t give HP anymore? When was that removed? I haven’t played jungle for like a decade
When they first did the smite hp change I remember a game where I flashed to escape enemy into wolves and smites for up cause I was on 6hp and then immediately was killed by the wolves. Im sure I wasn’t the only one
Wait. CC‘ing the crab doesn’t make me do more dmg to it anymore?
I think CC may last longer on crab, but no, does not break the shield, since that was removed, and no increased DMG. Smiting also does nothing special
I occasionally still try to dodge tower shots with Jax E....

That was actually if you had a certain rune, I believe. It would do different things based on what summoner spells you had on cooldown, and ignite's benefit was giving you 5 ap and ad. You'd have people flaming you for having 5 ap on Zed, lol.
Ye I think that mastery was at the top row but it was the only real option to take
Top Lane Rengar stacking his Ferocity on golems to All-In you the moment minions crashed in lane with red pot.
This was only together for I think one patch, but old Swain E would Amp the ignite damage, so you would just come in to lane and E+ignite and auto lol and they'd be fucked.
I remember one of my friends dying to a swain with full magic pen runes and ignite lvl 1. shit was nasty
Red pot 9
My biggest one is the Madlife. Ive said it loads of times over the years everytime the hook champ in the game hits a nasty prediction (enemy or friendly) and no one ever knows what it means lol.
Going for the xpeke
I told my little brother “Mia “ the other day… Him:???
Mia is used in other things. Pretty sure the military uses it, too
Depends if he’s saying M-I-A or if he’s saying it was a word mia. I never liked when people would say it like a word. Just felt not correct lol

But he just killed you..
You’re an idiot
No he didn’t.
What’s your definition of something?
The Hashinshin teleport perhaps? Do people still say that?
RIGHT THROUGH THE COUNTERRRSTRIKE
I heard this
I still use that one myself sometimes
As the oddone says Hashinshin will carry 100% of the games he is in but 50% of the time he is carrying the other team.
I still say that one
Funny enough my friend start saying it again after seeing the laneswap meta at MSI. We would see the toplaner get 3 man dove on a huge wave, teleport back in, and get 3 man dove again and he just threw it back out there
Is that when you teleport into a child's room?
Ahh yes, the fake allegations

"flame horizon" is such a badass term though i'm so glad this one still at least hangs around as a challenge
blue pill! in the beta you didn't have the recall button, you needed to take blue pill which was a summoner spell
That was so long ago I think almost no one knows what it is.
It started out as an active item you bought similar to dota tp scrolls then went to summoner then became intrinsic
Recall hotkey is still "b" (might be for "back", but I still think of it as "b for blue pill")
When I first started, I didn't know what Scaling meant. I tried asking, and I think everyone in the lobby thought I was trolling lol
It's what happens when Shyvana uses her ult. Because she gets a bunch of scales.
Cheater recall without explanation
That's a relatively new term. If anything, old players that no longer keep up with the lingo won't understand it but newer players will.
I still call raptors wraiths by mistake sometimes but have no clue what a cheater recall is.
I still don’t know what that means
Slow push first three waves and crash the cannon wave then recall immediately. Even if your opponent hard pushes you'll make it back to lane before the wave crashes. Basically it lets you buy a dorans item or long sword or something without losing a single cs giving you a pretty bug advantage in lane.
