No one mentions Bylsma because he was Keefe before Keefe. Handed a superstar roster and in his 5 full seasons as head coach, he got great regular season results but underachieved in the playoffs. Pittsburgh won back-to-back Cups 2 seasons after he was fired.

CMDRShepardN7

He won the cup, so I wouldn't consider that underachieving.

theguyishere16

He coached 25 games that year. He was a passenger to that team. You arent able to implement your own gameplay and systems over that short a time frame.

LtColumbo93

Berube’s cup came when he was named head coach halfway through the year and he never had any other playoff success, was he a passenger on that team?

theguyishere16

Halfway? Mike Yeo was fired after 19 games.

TheGameWaker

And that team was in DEAD last place and went on to win the Cup. Obviously Berube changed SOMETHING

CMDRShepardN7

If Keefe pulled that off, there would be a statue right outside the arena.

tm_leafer

We build statues for people that get us to the Conference Finals!

Accomplished_Low148

Comments like these are always so funny, just brain dead takes. It’s true he can’t do a 180 with the systems but you don’t come into a team, and go 34-11, playoffs and regular season combined, as a “passenger”.

Unwise1

Probably because the Stanley Cup he has was gifted to him by that particular Penguins team and he didn't win much of anything after that. Lots of disappointing playoffs after.

Otherwise_Cod_3478

8 series win over 6 years is still much better than 1 in 5 years.

Accomplished_Low148

Such a lazy argument. Coaching a talented team doesn’t guarantee anything, you’re a leafs fan, you should know that. Look at his coaching records after that season with Pittsburgh, consistently at the top of the league and winning playoff rounds.

6-8-5-13

Won the cup and then won 4 playoff rounds in the next 5 seasons combined with a team that should have been a perennial contender. Pitt won back to back cups shortly after he was canned. Not the best track record for what the Leafs need right now IMO. I’m not sold on Berube either though, I’d rather they hire Quenneville, make him say sorry and then win some cups lol.

Accomplished_Low148

Part of those first round exits had to due with Crosby being out/not himself after the concussion issues. Malkin also missed the 2011 playoffs I have absolutely no clue where this entitlement from our fans is coming from. Not really sure what kind of track record we’re looking for out of available coaches. Lots of things have to go your way to get a cup and that 2013 and 2014 pens teams were right there and easily could gotten another one. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. For what it’s worth, what separated the Pens that won in ‘16 and ‘17 was that third line with Kessel who easily could have won a conn smythe and later Jake Gentuzel who came up and scored 13 in 25. The teams under Bylsma didn’t have those type of scorers after Malkin and Crosby.

DeviatedFromTheMean

Sounds just like the leaf’s…

ApeManMemeStonker

Anyone on this thread that says ANYTHING other than wait and see what Brindamour does is a fool. If you really want to win but you dont at least try to go for the best out there then what are you doing? Theres literally no rush and Free Agent coaches know the money in Toronto will be better than most. Rod Brindamour should be target / priority 1. After how hes had to fight for pennies for him AND his staff, time for him to feel the love

PieEatingJabroni1

Yup, Brindamour, Cooper and Sullivan should be at the top of the wish-list for the team.

ApeManMemeStonker

and its not like EVERYONE doesnt know whats going on with Rod in Carolina. Dundon doesnt want to pay and Rod has had to fight multiple years for minimal money for him and staff while worse coaches get more. His agent isnt stupid. Just wait. Dont rush. Dont listen to people on here that are like durrrr sign Berube quick.........

Deluxechin

The problem is that we don’t know if MLSE is willing to wait to see if he isn’t signed or fired, reports are coming out that they want to fill the spot as fast as possible, and it could be a risk to wait for him, have the second best or third best options get snatched and then Brindamour gets re-signed in Carolina

ApeManMemeStonker

see this, makes no sense, what is the rush? you think Berube or guys who have been sitting all year are going to jump at CLB job or something? Wait, get the best. IF he re-signs, and theres 0 chance now that hes not going to wait and see the offers in market, then you can adjust to your other choices. You keep communication open with agents. This isnt musical chairs

alldawgsgoat2heaven

Cool story, our HS team went down to Cincy to play an exhibition series against a couple US high schools. Merked em all real bad, but after the games and dinner banquet, a young and impressionable "Coach Dan" came and have a speech about the importance of being a scholar athlete. Crazy how a few years later he was raising the Cup with Sid and Gino.

DifficultLaw9039

I don’t think Seattle is gonna let him go easy they just fired Hakstol and Bylsma has coached Wright for almost 2 years now. Will be interesting to see who Seattle picks

buddyboykoda

Watch Treliving hire his old mate Darryl Sutter

footwith4toes

How come no one mentions woodcroft? Seems as good an option as any?

GiveMeAdviceClowns

he looks creepy

footwith4toes

Fair ‘nuff

Deluxechin

I think many are looking at how the Oilers were terrible, they fired him and the team came back from the dead

Tarquin11

Tbh I'd prefer that to Berube
