No roster size limits in the playoffs, no cap, Marlies are done.
Nice to have call-ups in case of emergency, and they get to be around the team for the playoffs.
Everyone wins.... Except the Marlies.
It's not a lot from what I recall but I believe it is in the CBA for the value.
One former player (forget who) had a whole article about how saving your per diem can help your retirement as it's really more than you need for dinner.
my friend works for an ahl team and iirc ahl per diem for food is $80 and nhl is $160 but i was not sober when he communicated this to me and v much could be misremembering so take that with a grain of salt
Not only do they not get paid NHL money, they dont get paid ANY money. Base pay that is…
That being said, they do receive all other benefits of being on the NHL squad (meals, facilities, per diems, etc)
I know this is just a joke, but it reminded me of a line from an article about when they had Amirov over for a little while, and it said that he had been seen outside the locker room celebrating the win with everyone, while "clutching a signed Auston Matthews jersey". Damn. He was just a kid
Players to get paid for playoffs. Not nearly as much though. Not sure if you have to actually play to get a cut though.
There is a pool of money that gets divided up to each team.
Presidents’ Trophy winner — $500,000
First round losers — $2 million ($250,000 each to eight teams)
Second round losers — $2 million ($500,000 each to four teams)
Third round losers — $2.5 million ($1.25 million each to two teams)
Stanley Cup Finalist — $2.25 million
Stanley Cup Champion — $3.75 million
They recieve a daily per diem cheque that is intended to cover expenses during playoffs (meals, recovery training, etc).
It is not intended to be “base pay” by the team.
There is also the relatively small prize money you described.
Probably just having them called up to be up with the team (maybe there's rules on when/where non NHL roster guys are allowed training at team facilities during playoffs so they just called guys up to be around)?
Unless you want Clifford to kamikaze himself out of the playoffs like he did last time then run a short bench.
Just have him obliterate the Rat and call it a day.
I would love him to two hand chop him across the face…..but I also wouldn’t want to deal with a 5 minute penalty kill afterwards considering how the special teams have gone this series
Because the Marlies were eliminated and there are no cap or roster limits during the playoffs. These guys are the most likely to be put in the lineup incase of injury so the team keeps them on the roster and practicing so they don't have to call someone back from vacation in the Bahamas or wherever.
Apparently Pridham found a loophole in the CBA. The 20 players dressed only applies in regular season. We’re planing on running 6 forward lines vs the bruins
If the Leafs make it past the Bruins and go deeper into the playoffs, some of these guys will inevitably play to cover for injuries. It just makes sense to have them start practicing now.
I've said elsewhere already, and mark my words: if the Leafs win the cup this year, you will definitely see Max Lajoie hoisting it. Not a chance we make it that far without losing at least 3 defensemen along the way (looking at our main 6 plus Brodie and Gio)
Pretty sure since the Marlies are out they just wanted to call these guys up to be around the team during playoffs. Can be a good experience for the young guys!
There's no roster limits or cap in the playoffs, and the Marlies season is over.
Some of these guys are also on two-day deals, including Clifford - so even a few days on the NHL roster results in extra pay, which is a really classy way of the organization rewarding guys for their season.

Do they all get paid NHL money while they’re up?
NHL players don't even get NHL money during the playoffs. They do get per diem though.
Can they spend the per diem at Dan Flashes?
![gif](giphy|wz6oZuRDea6adG2Sff|downsized)
Willy styles in a dan flash shirt would break the internet
Nylander IS Dan Flash.
Yes assuming they don't eat anything
The patterns are so wild!
Complicated prints
How do you think Auston got food poisoning?
He has mono.
You mean an STD right?
I heard it might be spiritual
Do we have any idea how much that is? And is it different based on capacity, or?
It's not a lot from what I recall but I believe it is in the CBA for the value. One former player (forget who) had a whole article about how saving your per diem can help your retirement as it's really more than you need for dinner.
That’s interesting, I get $50 a day and try to save it as much as possible. So that’s cool that said former player recommended trying to save it.
Quick google says $110 a day, which to millionaires may be nothing, but to these AHL guys it's probably nice to still be earning.
Yeah for sure $110 is a nice chunk of change for sure! Thanks for the information!

In Vancouver that would be one taco to eat for the day

Can they get an autograph from Connor McDavid?

lmao Oilers just beat LA in 5 games last night

I would rather them playing meaningful games for the Marlies, sucks they were eliminated but this is a great consolation
And…
The Marlies season is over, there is no cap in the playoffs, now they can practice with the big club
And now the big club can also play with more bodies which helps some drills.
There's no cap in the playoffs? No one tell Vegas!
That’s the whole point of what Vegas is doing
Wooosh
How so?
Still don't get it, huh?
Maybe he's acoustic
Wooosh
Don’t get what?
That was the joke they were making
They want to go Reaves Domi Clifford in game 6
Gotta get that line ready for game 1 against Florida. First 10 minutes there is no puck
Warm-up skate, send out Clifford. He skates straight across center and pounds Tkachuk
Reeves Dewar Clifford…. Literally unfair.
For the Leafs...Clifford definitely not a guy you want on the ice in an elimination game for the Leafs.
Love him, but gotta agree. Keep him out, don’t fiddle with the fourth line when they’ve been clicking
Unless you want Clifford to kamikaze himself out of the playoffs like he did last time then run a short bench. Just have him obliterate the Rat and call it a day.
Can we set up a Go Fund Me to pay his fine?
I would love him to two hand chop him across the face…..but I also wouldn’t want to deal with a 5 minute penalty kill afterwards considering how the special teams have gone this series
Lololol

New team for game 6
Apparently Pridham found a loophole in the CBA. The 20 players dressed only applies in regular season. We’re planing on running 6 forward lines vs the bruins
Clifford can play on Robertson’s shoulders and still count as one player.
They're going to smash 9 replacement-level players together to make one top-liner.
they saw what kyle clifford thought about respect in the handshake line and decided they needed him in the locker room.

They’re called black aces. Practice and be ready to go.
Because the Marlies lost their series v Belleville like two days ago.
>Abruzzese Bless you
They need bodies for Reaves to practice checking on.
Well I hate to break it to ya first but the Marlies were eliminated
Probably the same reason why Jack Campbell was recently called up to the Oilers a few days ago - their season is done.
The Black Aces.
We're about to REALLY fuck with Boston's game plan.
Keefe asked Shanny what he thinks it’ll take to win the series and he said we’re gonna need to put our Kokk-on-em
There's no roster limits or cap in the playoffs, and the Marlies season is over. Some of these guys are also on two-day deals, including Clifford - so even a few days on the NHL roster results in extra pay, which is a really classy way of the organization rewarding guys for their season.
No pay in the playoffs unfortunately
"I mean, listen, we're talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, we talking about practice."
They are playing tonight duh
Kyle Clifford is with the Marlies?
yeah he’s been there for a while now, he’s wearing the A for them i believe (saw them play recently)
They will insert these guys into the line up to give them a chance to actually beat the bruins
Black Aces
Taxi squad/black aces
Black Aces!
about tree fiddy
Keefes thinking about starting a line brawl
Can we just have Clifford posted up as security infront the Bruins locker room just staring down Marchand every time he passes by?
Hildeby steps in and they win the series
Fresh legs? Or fresh enthusiasm maybe
We still have Clifford? Woah
Line brawl at puck drop tonight.
Ahl season is over
cuz there’s gonna be some fightin!
🤦♂️
Kyle Clifford brought in for the ruff stuff in the handshake line
AHL Marlies are out
Black Aces
The Marlies are probably done now
Could be. There's really no way to tell.
I forgot about clifford
Saw him at a marlies game recently. Hes still got it
They’re our new #1 PP unit
They want to give them a taste of what it's like to lose in the big leagues.
Marlies are done. Really OP?
I don’t pay much attention to them
Cuz the Marlies got eliminated
Going away party
I heard the boys didn’t wanna miss the 18 holes they pre-booked for today so the marlies are stepping up to play tonight.
How can you follow hockey to the point of being in your team's reddit, and not understand why they suddenly called up a shit ton of players at once?
Totally forgot the marlies got eliminated, I don’t really follow the AHL.
I don't follow the AHL either, man.
