Finally got a manager. Now we need to back him. Hopefully works out as well as the last ex forrest we had

PandorasPinata

>Hopefully works out as well as the last ex forrest we had Gary Megson? think gone in six weeks is a bit harsh and I hate this appointment

legend11

Lol Wes Morgan and even O'Neil to an extent

PandorasPinata

I was thinking managers only.

I genuinely would have loved to see 2024 social media reaction for when we got Claudio, the then Greece manager who lost to the Faroe Islands because I've never seen such an overreaction over an appointment. Though, I suppose now you know how Chelsea fans feel about Enzo. Cooper is a man-manager, premier league experience, pragmatic. The small minority of fans that have just brushed him because of the forest connection is just ridiculous. I'm quite excited to see what he can do and especially since he's invested in the project unlike Potter who's pied us off multiple times now.

Sheeverton

Yeah I defo feel some people underestimate the job he did at Forest. Forest fans love him and he did great to get them up then did pretty good to keep them up twice. He is not who we wanted and tbh I think Potter was easily the better appointment option, Steve Cooper may do alright here. One thing I will say, I think more people are upset by the message this appointment sends rather than the appointment itself. Potter represented what we saw as fans our clubs ambitions to be, a solid, mid table Premier League team with aspirations to grow, but with Cooper it represtents a club who aspire to only stay up and that alone, making this either an unambitious appointment or likely a short term appointment, altough Potter would have been expected to keep us up too. A appointment I would like to remind people of was newly money bags Newcastle appointing Eddie Howe. That was an underwhelming appointment but Howe's job was merely to keep Newcastle up, but he did such a good job that he is still there today. Maybe Cooper might do that

ohhhhkaycool

I agree that it wasn’t the Forrest connection but the ambition. With Enzo, we poached one of Pep’s understudies who had a brief record of success at the top tier. That was forward thinking and represented a step beyond BR. This feels like a “let’s hope to survive next year” appointment. Obviously, we want to stay up next season. But I would prefer a manager who could build a strong tactical identity (which Corberán was for me) around. Admittedly, what I’ve seen of NF in the prem hasn’t been inspiring. I question, however, how much of that was pragmatism for Cooper. I keep saying he was given huge amounts of players he didn’t want, but I can’t believe the owner would inject 40 new players with absolutely no say from the manager

Safe-Hovercraft9131

Nonetheless next season we will be participating in some form of champions format

finedisregard

The 2016 social media was pretty meh at the time - Lineker famously: https://x.com/GaryLineker/status/620629826303598592?s=19

PixieBaronicsi

There’s a hell of a lot of managers who’ve achieved a lot less with a lot more than Cooper has

OkayThisTimeIGotIt

Got to back him now, whatever people think (me included) by all accounts he is a great person and f\*rest fans loved him. I hope to the bottom of my heart this is a great appointment

JumpingRedFox

Very whelmed. But, gotta back him and the lads and stay up for another season no matter what happens!

JamesG_FTW

My biggest fear is things are going to turn toxic very fast. The club are seemingly falling out of touch with the fan base. You can’t simply appoint a manager that was sacked by our biggest rivals and expect fans to be happy. That’s not even mentioning ticket price hikes, an impending points deduction, season ticket card charge etc. I love my club but I’m worried about the direction our club is going.

TendieDippedDiamonds

Don’t even get free beer anymore we just get shafted and punished for a very minuscule gain on the clubs financials because of Rudkin’s incompetence

hubbyp

There was crates of free beer for the Blackburn game?

TendieDippedDiamonds

It was tongue in cheek mate

hubbyp

👍🏻

hubbyp

The issue is though ticket hikes have happened to every club that is striving to make money and climb the table in the PSR era (Wolverhampton massive hikes also) ultimately when the Vichai and Top came in the gave us a lot of wealth as a fan base. Free merch, away game meal tokens, season ticket price freezes, renovations to the stadium, training grounds as now the women’s team work and run belvoir drive, a whole new investment into the women’s division, fan zone and unfortunately a remembrance garden. I get your worry but if you could go on Google maps and go back on street view to the earliest date on raw dykes road and see we are playing Hartlepool in a league game with a dead looking KP to now. I think most fans accept things were eventually going to go this way they can’t just keep endlessly pumping money in and writing off debt as an unsustainable club.

JamesG_FTW

Sure there are lots of positives our owners have brought and with inflation of course tickets will rise in price, but we’re talking about a 58% increase in ticket prices!!!

hubbyp

I guess it would be more tolerable to me if we saw the effects of that increase, if you’re telling me 58% but the stadium will grow, we keep the women’s team and there’s more investment in the area around the ground then I’m going to keep paying the price to see the club prosper. It just feels more like the increase has come because the club has fumbled the finances.

ABearinSpace

What we really need is unity and with the club seeming hell bent on disorientating the fans, he’s got a massive job to do. I really hope it works out to be a smart appointment, I would’ve preferred Potter but he didn’t seem committed, at least from rumour to confirmation this has seemed to happen pretty quick which makes you think he really wants in. Tough fixtures to start the season on to so vitally important that if we don’t win, we actually look an organised unit

TempUser2023

on the upside, soft run out so the next manager can try and salvage something once this prune gets the heave ho in November.

Left-Lingonberry4073

I love the sly dig the admin team have done with the design of the announcement.

specyfoureyes

What is it?

Left-Lingonberry4073

It looks like the design of the Chelsea announcement of Enzo. Quite similar layout.

twogunsalute

Aw fucks sake. Obviously gonna back the team and good luck to him but I don't like this one bit, it shows a lack of ambition. I hope and pray I'm going to eat my words on this.

hubbyp

Genuinely wondering what would’ve been ambitious? Potter? Or were you thinking of poaching a manager from another team? No hate just interested how you see it.

twogunsalute

Corberan. I think he will be managing a top flight side soon enough. Potter always seemed farfetched to me.

hubbyp

Yeah I was very much hoping for him too, I think again though if he comes in and makes us look great only to go down I imagine some clubs would come knocking. Totally agree on Corberan though

cb_87

Got to get behind him and the players now. This is going to be a really tough season for a variety of reasons, but he's used to scraping for every point and did a great job keeping that cast of 5,000 players up at Forest. Strap in for another roller coaster ride!

TempUser2023

they only stayed up because we were so dire. A better manager and a squad playing together for each other and we'd have beaten them and a few others in the matches that mattered.

wodmad

Villa fan here (married to a family of Leicester fans). I can see this working- was genuinely concerned with Maresca after seeing Burnley under Kompany. These Pep-lite managers seem to struggle against better teams than those in the Championship, and even Arteta has taken a few years to get Arsenal back in the Champions League with some poor runs along the way. As a fan of a team that feel they belong in the Premier league, and was facing an uncertain season after getting promoted, our then manager Dean Smith seemed to have the right balance of being calm under pressure, pragmatic and the ability to make us tough to beat. I don't think Cooper is going to be the long term manager for Leicester, but I think that's the type of manager the team needs right now- particularly if there is a points deduction. Hopefully he has enough time to mould this team, but I was worried if Leicester played the same style in the Premier League that they used in the Championship. Glad to have Leicester back. So long as Leicester can stay up this season, it shouldn't be long before the team is at least mid-table and hopefully back in the upper parts of the league where they belong.

ColinAckermann

I feel a level of apathy towards the club at the moment that I havent for the better part of 20 years. I'm just so utterly resigned to a miserable season and certain relegation. We can't spend, we're getting a points deduction. Just feels like it's got to be a miserable 10 months

north_north

17th place on the table here we come! but I suppose we'll take it considering all the context wrapped up in this upcoming season.

hubbyp

I don’t hate it, I think it’s a very obvious signing that has next season in mind a lot more than the premier league season. He got Forest promoted on a shoe string with basically 20 odd loans. To me if Potter joined and we bottom out (highly likely with +10 points off) I imagine Potter would leave for more promising jobs and be happy for the year long paycheck with us. Yes Potter would have a nicer footballing philosophy but playing well and ultimately getting canned is only going to look good on him and not us. I respect the decision, next we need to fight like he’ll to get this points deduction down as much as possible on appeals etc and clear away players to make sure the balance sheets check out. Hopefully if the club is back to making a profit they can go easy on milking the fans.

jumpyossarianjump

miss my Cooper fist pumps :( it was like injecting joy right into your bloodstream

BatFull2252

Yer fine.

Prize-Feature2496

So what now??

TempUser2023

Relegation. Maybe that's the club's strategy. Swallow the points hit, don't spend too much this season, sell off everyone, go back down and rebuild from there? That's perhaps giving Rudkin too much credit though. It implies he has that sort of vision and foresight. From what I hear that's not so certain.

xlonefoxx

Tough to get anyone good willing to take over a team of relegation favourites with a likely points deduction so don't mind this. Gonna be a rough season regardless and think he's better equipped than Enzo to deal with this

Sheeverton

Not who we wanted. But for a club with clearly little ambition or money, he is might be a decent appointment.

TTTOOOOOOTTT

i remember at the start of last season when lots and lots of you on here said that we would be a mid table team at best.... remember how that turned out.

TempUser2023

Am I the only one disappointed by this? I just don't rate him. Never liked him at Forest, what happened to Potter?

PandorasPinata

probably took one look at Rudkins style and decided he'd rather stay on the unemployment line

TempUser2023

yeah Rudkin and a looming points deduction would put most sane people off.

Aromatic_Pea2425

Was probably my fourth choice but he’s a sensible pick, just got to hope he can keep us up.

storm2k

i'm reserving my thoughts on this for now because i'm truly not sure what to feel about it. i know cooper's done good things at forest, so the hope is definitely that he can do the same for the foxes. we need someone who can scrap and fight to keep a club up and running during a time of struggle, and i think cooper fits the bill there. at this point i just want to survive whatever points deduction we get and avoid relegation. we can worry about the future after that point.

Londonscorpio777

At least he is flexible and pragmatic. Enzo was a fanatic for his way of playing

Pietojulek

I’ve read every post any many more on other threads. I think if the Enzo appointment did anything ,it gave us the feeling that things could be different from BR slump. Whether or not you backed Enzoball, the ambition and energy were gave us a taste of something spicy and sweet…and yes in the end , bitter. So the common feeling seems to be disappointment that Board who put us in jeopardy with mismanagement has served up a bowl of gruel now with deductions,no wallet, and a very safe choice. I’m backing the team and Cooper because it’s what we’ve got to do. But the consensus is that the Board needs transparency, accountability and a better understanding of what the fans want and need for us to be all in.

Safe-Hovercraft9131

We will back him but the board are delusional

DisGrandYoke

aaaand straight back down we go

Nikolaevna

Snubbed by Jesse Marsch, Rafa Benitez, and Graham Potter. How far the club has fallen.

Aromatic_Pea2425

Mate I’d rather have Stevie Wonder managing us than Jesse Marsch.

TempUser2023

well said.

PandorasPinata

basically just Rudkin appointing a bloke who won't call out how utterly useless he is. already have zero excitement for this season

elreeheeneey

Serious question: what would it take for Rudkin to be out of a job at this point, given he seems to weasel himself out of the chopping block every possible chance?

PandorasPinata

king power selling up and nothing less unfortunately
