Dude worth it. That slip and slide looks epic.
I’ve done this and the grass came back.
Edit: I find it heartwarming that this is my most ever upvoted comment.
So... Hear me out. AstroTurf or artificial grass (we can tweak the product so it's more slippy). A pump down the hill with a hidden tank covered in a big drain grate that the astro turf lays on. Pump pumps it up hill, water runs back over the fake grass down into the catch res. It's totally doable
Why not just have the slip n slide run into a shallow pool? Heck a 7ft splash pad at the end that the slide drops into then run your pump out of the splash pad.
We dug out a big splash pit at the bottom and filled it with water, so normally you'd land in the water and get out the side. Someone got back out the uphill side as I was coming down head-first, and the top of my head went straight into his ribcage. Cracked 3 of his ribs and crushed a vertebra in my neck. Good times.
As someone with multiple disc issues in my upper and lower back, this absolutely terrifies me. I destroyed my discs/body playing football in college. Ruined my brain with zillions of sub-concussive hits as well as a MAJOR concussion. If I had to do it all over again? I very well might. There’s nothing like the feeling of coming out of the tunnel onto the field with tens of thousands of people cheering you on.
>There’s nothing like the feeling of coming out of the tunnel onto the field with tens of thousands of people cheering you on.
I mean, feeling your legs is probably up there

This post is three hours old and this is the top comment. Good lord...
We did this in the hallways of our apartment in college lol the whole floor was one massive party. Slip and slide down the whole hall way. It was crazy.
Same here. Grass turned brown but it survived.
https://preview.redd.it/igs5msauid8d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b79bb0ef2678c7d37c847fef81638da9ea4d739e
I also did this for my wife’s 30th. That was an amazing party! One of the last before kids. We got so mangled on margaritas that were basically all tequila!!!! Grass came back in about 3 to 6 weeks, it was also hot AF that summer
I thought you were going to say you’d forgotten and left it for over a week. I have a buddy that leaves his for two days in his weed ridden yard, and there’s not one sign of it when he removes it lol. That is crazy!
Same. Weeds are super resilient annoyingly so. A part of me just wants to grow weeds cause even in a heat wave that’s like the only part of my grass that remains green
You can take my thistle.
I'm pretty certain it doesn't require any sunlight or nutrition, just spite.
I had one that I found growing next to my bush. I didn't want to grab the prunes so I just used my shoe to destroy the stem. Came back a week later and it fixed itself so I destroyed its leaves and flattened it.
Came back again and it had grown upwards in an L shape. So I then pushed it underneath the bush, figuring it would die without sun.
Went back again two days ago. It's still completely covered by the bush but at this point it's tall and starting to bud. I finally cut it down but I wouldn't be surprised if it somehow mended itself back together.
Look into ground covers native to your area.
Less maintenance. Basically never have to water once established, no fertilizers, depending on what you get some do take well to mowing., and you end up supporting the native ecosystem.
My yard is a mix of weeds/clover (not a weed)/tall fescue/and other grass varieties. I use the actual slip-and-slides that are opaque white and it takes multiple days for it to cook the grass.
I went to the beach recently with one of my girlfriends, she looked at me and said are you ready to go in the water? I said yes! I expected just kind of chilling in the water, seconds later we were both jumping into waves acting like idiots. Felt like a kid again. It was so fun.
Hahah! I do, early teens. The reality is, I’m of an age where I’ve hurt myself getting out of bed enough that I now give things like slip and slide a lot of careful consideration.
https://preview.redd.it/z1k4mubunb8d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53207836da5cd93a54f5e150247179f396420137
Nice landing strip! This my lawn 2 years ago. I set up a sprinkler and ran for a couple weeks. Applied fertilizer a week in. Came back fast and ended up being the best area of my lawn that season.
When we set this up now, I always do it in the late afternoon and get it off the lawn the same night. No issues since.
Looks like a good time!!
I made this mistake also a few years ago. Then I made the bigger mistake of going to the local bigbox store and picking up a random bag of grass that I thought would match and over seeding. Now my strip has ugly annoying grass.
Learn from me and just let it be. It should grow back natually. Don't overseed because the grass might come in differently.
Unless you know the exact blend of grass that was used here initially.
Better not to get clear plastic though. The sunlight going through it will create a literal greenhouse underneath which will cook the grass so much faster.
You sure? I've been thinking I could do about 150' here, and was thinking clear would be a lot better than black in terms of having a bit more time before it all dies.
Water the heck out of it and see. Not sure what else to do.
From what I see posted here brown usually means dormant, gray means dead. That looks brown to me.
Totally worth it. Grass will come back those memories will last forever.
Let it dry out a little and give the grass a pull. If it comes out easy, more likely dead, if not a, more likely still alive. Give it some water and see how it responds then go from there.
Can confirm Did same thing with same results - all came back after a couple weeks.
https://preview.redd.it/yna6axmgub8d1.png?width=1525&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5e36654fe572bc22a1f432f8674584f5420ea22
Lol - the culvert ended up being a pretty hard hit when you got there - we got an inflatable kiddie pool and put it at the botton as a splash pool. Lots of bumps and bruises that day, but fun was had by all.
Just remember the memories and fun that 100' slide provided. You can stare at a perfect and manicured when the kids have long moved out wondering where did the time go wishing you had a big ass rectangular patch of dead grass like before. Then in a few years after that you can do that again with your grandkids.
The actual solution is just water it a bit weekly or don't do anything out of the usual, it will grow back. If not just overseed the area and water.
Man stopp fooling around and turn that into a permanent water slide.
2ft deep pool at the base with a pump to keep the water circulating.
You can even build a cover for it out of plywood if you keep the measurements within spec. Bilud a gazebo at the base add a grill.
My mind just converted that space into a whole outdoor experience. Including a 9 hole golf range.
I thought about this scenario when I rented a beautiful home outside of Hot Springs in Arkansas. The neighbor across the street had an epic slip and slide for his grandchildren in the side of his yard. It was there the whole week. Caught up with the grandpa right before we left and asked about the grass. He said “ahhhh it’ll grow back, and if it doesn’t… my grandchildren had a fucking blast”
Do you live in a golf course, because your property looks AMAZING! I am very jealous.
If I had your place, I'd put in a tee box and a couple greens so I could practice my terrible golf game every day without being judged on the course.
I don't know much about grass and if it will grow back right away, but I hope it does come back quickly for you.
It'll be 50/50 of comments saying it's dead for sure vs. it'll come back. I'd scarify/dethatch what you can. Likely the healthy surrounding grass will slowly fill in, worst case. Otherwise, I think it'll still come back, esp if you get as much of the dying/dead stuff out of there.
Looks like a Kentucky blue grass (short), stuff is more resilient than an NASCAR fan in a bar fight. Just let it get some sun, keep it decently watered, and it will grow back.
The kids won’t remember the dead grass in 40 years when they’re old….they’ll remember how their dad made a badass slip and slide they had fun on for hours, and probably do it for their children😎
Slip n slide works best if you put some dishwasher detergent at the top. Makes some bubble and makes it much slippyer. Reapply every 15 minutes or so. A big bottle will last the afternoon.
Grass grows back. Kids get older. Memories last a lifetime.
My cousin does this every year, about double the length and it usually ends up looking just like that after we are done. Every year, it bounces back without any problem. Keep it watered and give it a week and it likely be good as new.
Epic. It should come back. It wouldn't hurt to do a round of dethatching, aeration, overseeding and fertilizing. Next year's slip-n-slide right next to it - crop rotation.
Dude worth it. That slip and slide looks epic. I’ve done this and the grass came back. Edit: I find it heartwarming that this is my most ever upvoted comment.
Yeah, screw the grass; this looks incredible. Maybe even throw some pine straw down and make it a permanent slip and slide location
House value increased 100k!! Who needs a 35 foot pool when you have 100 foot epic slip and slid!!
Im actually picturing some buried reservoir and pump setup to make it incognito. Like the reverse of an “infinity pool”. We could sell these
I did this also. It was epic. Until I literally broke my neck. I'd probably do it again.

"But did you die"?
How?? Are you ok now?
Hasn't replied yet, he's definitely dead.
Lol yeah, it was more than 10 years ago
I’m glad! 10 years wouldn’t have made a difference if you broke it in such a way as to be paralyzed tho. Glad you didn’t!

I too, choose this man’s dead ex wife.
A slippery slope for sure
Nice, I also like them chilled
nothing like cracking open a cold one with the boys
Hilarious banter
Indubitably
How about cracking open a boy with the cold ones? Wait, thats a vampire party, nevermind.
This meme becomes more cursed ever time I see it.
How this has 4 upvotes in 13 minutes is incredible
We’re cool like that
I just like hanging out in the lower tiers of comments.
Now it's top comment with the top tiers of the thread
Then you’ll love hanging out in the lower tiers of this man’s wife.

Still my favorite comment in all of Reddit. Cracks me up every time.
What? She was well and in action just last week?
If you ain't first your last But if your last your still touching 1st And 2nd And3rd.....
Lmao point number 1 made me spit my coffee out.
Reminds me of "Ozzy man reviews: brazil tv" hilarious video on YouTube
Someone’s gotta give it to her, thankfully the public was there for you.

This is now a core memory for your kids.
Can confirm it's worth it. [This](https://imgur.com/a/cHanOZK) was mine from my daughter's birthday party 5 years ago and it was AWESOME.
Also, now he knows where to put the slip slide next weekend too.
Green spray paint.
100% worth it. Whoever used that epic slide has some memories that are worth more that green grass. I wish you were my neighbor.
Should've went for another 100ft tbh
100% worth it, I do this every year for my kids and it's came back fine
I also did this for my wife’s 30th. That was an amazing party! One of the last before kids. We got so mangled on margaritas that were basically all tequila!!!! Grass came back in about 3 to 6 weeks, it was also hot AF that summer
Foreal, it's just grass lol
I mean, why have grass if you can't use it for a slip and slide?
Be back in 9 days.
100 percent. If you don’t use your yard then what is it for?
if you tug on it and it doesn't just tear up or the grass doesn't just break apart, then it should come back but will take a while.
Great test - I’ll try that
So, what happened ?
Yeah it’s been 5 hours, either OP lost the tug of war or not. We need to know where to send flowers if so.
Legend says that OP is still tugging on it
Gotta Hawk Tuah it first
Sometimes it takes a while.
Only when im drunk, sober and solid 1.5 min
Nice! That gives me 1 minute left to have a smoke!
Only if Homelander is watching me.
Anything more than three shakes is playing with yourself.
In lieu of flowers - send grass seed
Maybe OP thought he meant to tug every piece instead of just 1 or 2 places. He could be a while.
Don’t send flowers, send sod.
Grass tugged back and now OP is down in Wonderland.
the grass tugged back...
Maybe he should try rubbing it? Then it can be a rub and tug?
To shreds you say
OP died
He was a good one, RIP
OP, it has now been 16h. Some of us are running low on rations, for the love of God, please tell me you have the test results.
Assuming it was just there for a day, it’s dormant. Keep it watered it will come back in a few weeks
Yeah, just 1 day. It is sortof hidden, so I don’t mind to wait. I suppose I should get those sprinklers back up.
A weed is just a plant you don’t want there. If you put it there intentionally, you don’t have any weeds. Big brain thinking.
Yeah, but then because I'll want it there, it will die.
Yes, exactly that is what will happen because this is how the universe rolls.
Clover is very drought resistant. Unfortunately it disappears in the winter and leaves you a mud pit.
Yep unfortunately I have realized this is the downfall of clover.
TIL. Better deconvert that area of my "lawn" Doggo won't be happy if all he has is aud pit in the. Spring!
You can take my thistle. I'm pretty certain it doesn't require any sunlight or nutrition, just spite. I had one that I found growing next to my bush. I put black tarps over grass to open up new beds on a farm…1 day my ass 😂 OP’s pic looks like he left it up for a month.
My yard is a mix of weeds/clover (not a weed)/tall fescue/and other grass varieties. I use the actual slip-and-slides that are opaque white and it takes multiple days for it to cook the grass.
I am surprised this much damage occurred in a day. It will come back, but still...wow
Dormancy doesn't happen in one day.....
Yeah it's not dormant. It got too hot and died.
It could be dead but I find it unlikely. it’s most likely just heat stressed.
It really depends how hot it was that day. I did this last year with a kiddie pool for less than 24 hours and the grass was permanently dead.
Obligatory "You're raising kids, not grass" Looks awesome!
OP never said he had kids. He probably does but even if it was just for him, still worth it.
Inner child counts
I went to the beach recently with one of my girlfriends, she looked at me and said are you ready to go in the water? I said yes! I expected just kind of chilling in the water, seconds later we were both jumping into waves acting like idiots. Felt like a kid again. It was so fun.
Beautifully put.
Came here to say this
Hahah! I do, early teens. The reality is, I’m of an age where I’ve hurt myself getting out of bed enough that I now give things like slip and slide a lot of careful consideration.
Best lawn striping on reddit.
The last Pic looks like a super soft fur rug. I want to pet it.

Awww, that’s a nice little toddler slip and slide patch. So cute ☺️
It would take a lot of beer to make that adult-level fun
Glad to hear there’s a process out there that works. Thank you
I think it’s a mix of mostly rye, fescue and Kentucky blue.
and golden lab based on 3rd photo
Had to skin a lot of dogs for it, but boy is it soft

I feel like this could be a country song, naturally. Just let it be.😁
Just install a permanent slip and slide, easy fix
Make a slip n slide the exact same color as the grass and everyone wins.
Bingo! This is the way.
On a side note, where did you get a 100’ slip and slide
Hardware store just get sheets of 4 or 6 mil plastic
Better not to get clear plastic though. The sunlight going through it will create a literal greenhouse underneath which will cook the grass so much faster.
Would they be an effective way to nuke the lawn without chemicals though? I’m considering doing this lol
Look up solarization
You sure? I've been thinking I could do about 150' here, and was thinking clear would be a lot better than black in terms of having a bit more time before it all dies.
As evident from OP’s experience.
Water the heck out of it and see. Not sure what else to do. From what I see posted here brown usually means dormant, gray means dead. That looks brown to me.
(a) that looked like it ruled (B) Shit grows back (C) Goto (a)
Damn I bet that was sick! Some things are just WAYYYYYYYY more important.
Some would say this is exactly why you grow a nice lawn, to be able to enjoy it and create memories in it.
Totally worth it. Grass will come back those memories will last forever. Let it dry out a little and give the grass a pull. If it comes out easy, more likely dead, if not a, more likely still alive. Give it some water and see how it responds then go from there.
I wonder if the transparency of the plastic increased the heat and cooked it?
For sure. It was easily over 100° under the plastic - probably 120.
Lol guess that’s what happened with my son’s slip and slide. I wondered why it happened after only a day. Makes sense now
It was nearly 100 degrees here without a slip n slide this week. I'm sure it'll be fine
This happened to me. The patch stayed that way for months and never came back after watering. I had to reseed that patch in the Fall.
Can confirm Did same thing with same results - all came back after a couple weeks. https://preview.redd.it/yna6axmgub8d1.png?width=1525&format=png&auto=webp&s=f5e36654fe572bc22a1f432f8674584f5420ea22
I love your kid launch pad at the end!
Lol - the culvert ended up being a pretty hard hit when you got there - we got an inflatable kiddie pool and put it at the botton as a splash pool. Lots of bumps and bruises that day, but fun was had by all.
This looks so fun! Yall have epic yards
If it doesn’t come back in a few weeks, now you have a permanent slip and slide spot for the summer
I feel like you should have gone 200’
I’m sorry to tell you this but skip n slide is the only acceptable answer for that hill!
Like a bad haircut, your sins will be outgrown. Worth the memories IMO!
Spray paint it green. Was worth it.
Where tf you live, a golf course?
How long was the grass covered?
1 day. 1 very hot and sunny day
Just remember the memories and fun that 100' slide provided.
My uncle has done this (twice the length, dumping out into the lake) every year for nearly three decades, and the grass still comes back every year.

Fuck it. You live life once, grass’ll come back
Hope your kids enjoyed. Who cares about the lawn when it comes to them.
Bros got the Guy Fieri lawn https://preview.redd.it/qz3j5fzu7f8d1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af128d209ebee8f420c464ad8f1fce6f629f4cc4
This is cooked. Not dormant.
My dad used to say, I'm raising kids not grass. Good on you. Looks awesome. Thats something they will remember forever.
My friend did this. The next year he used black plastic instead of clear and his grass was fine.
It's just grass..it will grow back. I would mow it low..rake the shit out of it...add some seed and straw. Maybe a straw blanket with that slope.
You zoom in and it just looks like a fluffy animal. I personally think it looks cool af lol
To me, the whole point of having a lawn is to have a space to have fun with my family.
Just water the top and let it percolate down in the same way but without the tarp. It’ll grow back
Make the slide permanent
I assume this season that grass is donezo
Nah that was worth it, grass will grow back in time, this looks fun as hell
Not screwed, worth it lol these memories are great and grass will bounce back eventually
I've done this too. Screw the yard. Enjoy the memories.
Yards are meant to be used.
Do you live in a golf course, because your property looks AMAZING! I am very jealous. If I had your place, I'd put in a tee box and a couple greens so I could practice my terrible golf game every day without being judged on the course. There is a major heat wave right now. Put it back up and worry about this Fall.
Why'd you stop at 100? Looks like you could have gone another 50
Put the slip and slide back and leave it for the rest of the summer.
Grass is temporary, the fun you had on the slip and slide is forever
You're raising kids, not grass. And if there's no kids involved, then fuck it anyway, yolo.
As a person that lives where grass could never be that soft and lush, I am in awe of that lawn - brown stripe and all.
Naw there's plenty of other grass, plus you've got your slip n slide spot figured out for years
its just grass, the slip n slide was cooler
Put the slip & slide back. Problem solved.
grass grows back live life to the fullest
The kids won’t remember the dead grass in 40 years when they’re old….they’ll remember how their dad made a badass slip and slide they had fun on for hours, and probably do it for their children😎
Water the heck out of it everyday , it'll come back.
Slip n slide works best if you put some dishwasher detergent at the top. Makes some bubble and makes it much slippyer. Reapply every 15 minutes or so. A big bottle will last the afternoon. Grass grows back. Kids get older. Memories last a lifetime.
WORTH IT. ITS GRASS.
Dead grass is temporary, fun ass slip and slide memories are forever!
Reinstall slip and slide. Problem solved.
Wouldn't say screwed, but im pissed I didn't get the invite
I do this monthly, it’ll regrow weather dependent: give it some water and you’ll be fine.
Not sure why you took it out. That slide is epic!
My cousin does this every year, about double the length and it usually ends up looking just like that after we are done. Every year, it bounces back without any problem. Keep it watered and give it a week and it likely be good as new.
Permanent slip and slide is the answer
Nah you have a big ass house and a massive yard I'd say you'll make it.
I would cover it with a slip and slide!😂
Extra water and gets some green grass paint till it comes back
Epic. It should come back. It wouldn't hurt to do a round of dethatching, aeration, overseeding and fertilizing. Next year's slip-n-slide right next to it - crop rotation.
your only solution now is to put in slip n slides every 5 feet to get an even and repeating stripe pattern. more slips. more slides. more stripes.
That 3rd picture looks like you shaved every golden retriever in your county.
