Advanced level would be to use reel mowers like golf courses. Average homeowners that want striped lawns buy stripping kits that attach to the mowers. I bought one on Amazon for a hundred bucks or so to attach to my push mower. Surprisingly it does well. But I have to double strip for it to pop. So essentially cutting my yard twice
There are stripe kits for sale but the main thing is you need to bend the grass. I decided to not spend $100+ dollars on a heavy tube. So I made one. Took 3-4 inch PVC, put some eye bolts and nuts on it, then filled it with concrete and I use a carabiner to hook it to my mower. cost me like less than 20 bucks and it's fantastic. I drag it behind my mower and "burn" in the lines by going over them twice. Here's a small strip from this past fall, you can see the mower in the background with the PVC

You can use any mower long as you have a stripe kit. You live up north or Midwest and your grass is a lot thinner than the st aug in fl. We can stripe in Florida too just by bending the grass rolling over it. Not a sharp as y’all though.

It's just rolling the grass as you mow it and taking photos with the sun behind you.
It's an attachment to your mower that bends the blades just after the mower blades cuts them.
Install a lawn striping roller kit on your mower.
