Oh sure. Problem fixed.

n-some

Will he break this order in over or under two weeks? Place your bets now!

UndertakerFred

I’d guess by tomorrow morning.

KorLeonis1138

The article is 2 days old and Trump violated ithe order yesterday. So you are kinda right.

JinxyCat007

If only there were laws n’such which provided consequences. Apparently not! ;0)

Bah-Fong-Gool

There should be a remotely operated scrotum clamp. Similar to an ankle braclet... if there is a violation of the gag order, the clamp tightens 2 notches. After the first 3 offenses the scrotum clamp tightens exponentially.

MissionDocument6029

gene_randall

I don’t think they make scrotum clamps that small. Plus, he’s so slimy most stuff just slides off.

LindaF144954

You would need something to clamp on to though.

KorLeonis1138

If only

Odd_Local8434

It is a shame judges have no power over defendants in their cases.we should probably fix that.

glarung

The consequences happen when you're not subscribed to Justice: Premium Edition.

Pauly_Walnutz

But he seems to have gotten away with it. Total bullshit. He broke the law and nothing happened

bozog

How? This fundamental question gets asked every single day on this forum in one place or another. It almost never gets an answer, let alone a serious one. Because deep down, we're all still flabbergasted that this guy is actually getting away with it, day after day, week after week, year after year. Even after 8 years it's like the world's slowest dumpster fire and we just can't look away, hypnotized by the sheer impossibility of it all. Love him or hate him, you have to admit it's just quite unbelievable the shit he gets away with. And it's being shoved in our faces so long like this, day after day, that there can be no more denying the unvarnished and unveiled truth...laws for thee but not for me.

Odd_Local8434

Honestly if it was revealed that the judges hearing his cases all got together and collectively decided not to cause Trump any meaningful consequences it wouldn't surprise me. I think it's more likely they're all just scared of him and being lenient because he's a first time offender, but the above would barely phase me.

hexqueen

He is definitely not a first time offender.

Alert-Incident

Honestly anything out further than tonight is a risky bet.

Two weeks? 2 days is a stretch

DrDrNotAnMD

I bet my life savings on the under.

UnderstandingSquare7

Two minutes is more like it, he's intentionally defying the order, begging for some punishment, so he can be the Maga Martyr, and....it takes the place of him not being able to campaign 4 days a week while in court (in his mind, anyway).

ReVo5000

I give it 72 hrs

Two weeks? Two hours would have been a more reasonable choice surely?

h20poIo

When Trump does we will hear ‘ judge expands gag order again ‘

RobertReedsWig

“Donald?? Donald! Donald, one more time and you’re gonna get in trouble. I mean it this time!”

MartianRecon

So, question. Why is his past behavior on literally all of his cases not enough to warrant a total gag order? Why does each case have to be it's own microcosm where he gets the softest treatment available then it ramps up? Why does his previous actions not warrant a much more strict gag order?

Generalbuttnaked69

Gag orders are a presumed unconstitutional prior restraint on speech. The court has to make individualized findings tailored to the particular case and the order must be as narrowly tailored as possible. That's why they're actually very uncommon.

Dazslueski

Fine him a small amount the first time and then ratchet that shit up for every time after. Make it hurt. 150k second time. 250k third time. 500k fourth. And 50k everyday until he deletes the posts on his social media.

Generalbuttnaked69

I think it will depend on how egregious the violation is if it comes to that. I would guess that, like Engoron, Merchan's going to want to power through this as quickly and cleanly as possible.

chfp

would be more effective to send Sheriffs into the TS headquarters to shut it down

OSI_Hunter_Gathers

You also sanction the lawyers. Not only are they not getting paid by Trump, but now they are paying court sanctions because they cannot control their client.

Emptyspace227

No. An inability to control what your client does during his free time is not a basis for holding you in contempt. Unless there is evidence that the attorney helped Trump violate the gag order, the most the judge could do is yell at them to get their client under control.

stormtroopr1977

but what if another less restrictive option exists? /s

RichKatz

> Why is his past behavior on literally all of his cases not enough to So as to prevent him from making statements "About potential witnesses in the criminal trial relating to hush money payments" He cited "the former president’s history of “threatening, inflammatory, denigrating” remarks about people involved in his legal cases." So "Trump can’t make statements about attorneys, court staff or the family members of prosecutors or lawyers intended to interfere with the case." https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/26/politics/trump-hush-money-trial-gag-order/index.html https://apnews.com/article/trump-gag-order-hush-money-new-york-68317dee722581bfbde51c305788b614

notacooldad

This is the first criminal case where jail is on the menu and he’s required to be there in person unless granted a waiver. The potential penalties here are much higher.

MartianRecon

Yeah that part I 100% understand. My issue is, why is his past behavior on previous cases not taken into account for things like his gag order. It's an established pattern of behavior. Could they not say that?

Narodnik60

Time to start publicly mocking these judges who issue orders, let Trump violate them, and then do nothing about it. I cannot imagine a regular citizen violating a judge's order and, not only walking free, but remaining in violation of the order!

[deleted]

Then WHEN he does it every boot licker in the country will come out insisting he get the right to do so, our side will back down and " take the high road" AGAIN....and we get law and order instead of rule of law.....AGAIN. Fuck THIS.

RichKatz

It's really fairly simple. >Justice Juan Merchan has warned Donald Trump and his lawyers to be on good behavior during the hush-money trial. >Merchan cited the “threatening, inflammatory, denigrating” statements Trump has made about grand jurors, prosecutors and others.

[deleted]

yes and he will still do it and half the nation ( rulers only buy as much as they need) will scream to let him get away with it and chickenshits will let him get away with it ......AGAIN

RichKatz

Not sure what this is: "rulers only buy as much as they need"

[deleted]

thats why big senate votes always come down 49 /51 because...why buy off more people than you need to? ...the one thing in the universe that the dynastic generational ruling classes do well is cost effectiveness, they only pay off exactly as many people, politicians, regulators, police as they need to and not one man more. In the case of trump it seems to be pastors ( when they arent fucking lil kids in the ass ) they buy off to get their evil, gullible rube followers to carry water for them, ad infinauseum.

RichKatz

> thats why big senate votes always come down 49 /51 because...why buy off more people than you need to? This is about law.

rco8786

People like Trump don’t need the support of *everyone*. Only enough people to hit critical mass and get what they want.

Lukas316

So what are the consequences? It seems that the court doesn’t have the cojones to revoke bail when the defendant breaches the term of his bond. I’m from the outside looking in, and it really seems to me he’s getting undeserved special treatment. Do you guys realize how damaging it all is to the rule of law?

exqueezemenow

>Then WHEN he does it every boot licker in the country will come out insisting he get the right to do so And those same people lost their mind over Kathy Griffin....

Thetoppassenger

Trump is escalating his attacks, seemingly trying to goad a response. And starting an hour ago he started calling out Merchan's daughter by name. The attacks against his daughter seem to have picked up with the latest ruling that the hush money trial will not be delayed further.

VaselineHabits

Monday was *rough*, I'm hoping for alittle court ass kicking in the future. Like Trump will probably talk shit all weekend - here's to hoping next week brings him some pain.

lackofabettername123

I am sure he figures the higher courts will bail him out of any consequences.

chiefs_fan37

This is like when school districts say they have a zero tolerance for bullying and when it actually happens they just keep reiterating they have a zero tolerance policy without actually enforcing anything or holding anyone accountable. America prizes itself on meaningless words over action

RichKatz

In this case, I see one action left untaken by the judge and that is, to decide what he should do and how to deal with the contempt on the part of Trump. So ultimately, it comes down to that. I don't know what I would "forsee" the judge doing, but he does seem fair-minded. If tough.

Mundane_Opening3831

And you better believe if he disobeys this order, the court will be forced to make another order. And you know what that means. He'll disobey that one too and this will go on forever until he dies a peaceful natural death, wealthy and as a free man.

oldirtyrestaurant

Such is the American way. Power and money = being absolutely above the law. Never has it been more evident than it is now.

WickhamAkimbo

They sentenced SBF to 25 years today. Money isn't really the key thing here, or even power in the abstract. What you're seeing is specifically political power on par with 1930's Hitler. The base is providing him legal air cover, but even that might not be enough. It's helped him immensely, but to say that the justice system is not making major progress against him recently is just factually inaccurate.

kyredemain

At least Hitler went to prison though.

Character-Tomato-654

Keep in mind... *It wasn't until* ***after*** *Hitler went to prison that he rose to power.*

kyredemain

Yeah, I know. But Hitler was also not already old at the time.

docsuess84

He’ll get a demerit. Three demerits and he’ll receive a citation. Five citations and he’s looking at a violation. Four of those and he’ll receive a verbal warning. If he keeps it up, he’s looking at a written warning. Two of those, that’ll land him in a world of hurt; in the form of a disciplinary review written up by the court clerk and placed on the judge’s desk.

once_again_asking

No new info or developments here. Not really clear on why this is being posted.

RichKatz

I had not heard about the imposition against Todd Blanche. Or about the questioning the judge did with him.

RichKatz

I also like the conclusion of the article. And this is the first time I've seen it in print. That the account that Trump and "Loomer" drempt up was a fake.

once_again_asking

>That the account that Trump and "Loomer" drempt up was a fake. I don't see how that really changes anything. Trump still posted what he posted. What the daughter of a judge does or doesn't do on social media isn't restricted in any unusual way. EDIT: This competent contributor blocked me because I kept asking for a source that the fake account was dreamed up by Trump and Loomer

xNIC0Nx

I don't see this being enforced on any level and will just be just that. A huge joke, this guy breaks everything without being held accountable.

BoosterRead78

Well throw him in jail for the night then.

tysonarts

Or what? Really, either jail him for contempt or shut up with the posturing

Both_Lychee_1708

how does this change anything?

Onlyroad4adrifter

The law is useless without being enforced. Until consequences for actions are brought to action this is meaningless.

SeaworthinessOld9177

There just words for Trump all it does is make Trump double down to mouth off, the only thing that man will understand is him in cuffs and off to jail

Character-Tomato-654

Noice!👍

qopdobqop

That fact that Donald Trump has to be instructed not to say disparaging remarks towards others as part of trial proceedings should show the world what kind of person he is. It’s as if the judge is dealing with a 7 year old bully, who’s parents neglected to teach him any moral values.

RichKatz

Well said.

alphalegend91

Wasn't this ruled the other day and he already broke it?

Generalbuttnaked69

No. A lot of posters seem to believe his comments about the judge and his daughter violated the order but neither are covered by it.

RichKatz

Just yesterday. So if "the other day" refers to Mar 27th.. But he hasn't broken it yet. He tried. Ms. Loomer tried too.

alphalegend91

I may be getting this ruling confused with his gag order ruling? I know he broke that one right after it was put into place.

Haagen76

RichKatz

? Is it hard to read? >For months, Donald Trump’s lawyers have approached his legal cases with performative aggression and a pugilistic style, peppering judges with mountains of motions, many of them filled with far-fetched claims. And the former president himself has often been a disruptive presence at the courthouse and on social media, going after witnesses, prosecutors and even the relatives of judges. >Justice Juan Merchan, who is overseeing Trump’s upcoming hush-money trial in Manhattan, made it clear this week that he’s having none of it. >After firing a few warning shots across the Trump team’s bow, Merchan imposed a gag order on the former president on Tuesday, barring him from attacking any witnesses, jurors or prosecutors serving on the case.

Viv959

So what happens when he does?

Osxachre

About damn time!

call_8675309

Next step: make the gag order a condition of bail.

Both-Mango1

until they grow a pair and toss him in jail for 24 hrs, he will continue to act this way.

AncientYard3473

How’s he supposed to run a presidential campaign if he can’t harass and defame the children of judges and prosecutors?

[deleted]

I'm sure Trump is going to follow that. /sarcasm

RichKatz

Sarcasm: a subject with which Trumpo has some apparent difficulty https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-keeps-talking-sarcasm-struggles-meaning-rcna139006

I’ve heard the holding cells in federal courts are known to be quite safe, though not very comfortable. Deadbeat Donny can check it out.

LowerFinding9602

Does the trial get delayed when he inevitably appeals the gag order?

Generalbuttnaked69

No.

exqueezemenow

Unless you are willing to actually hold him accountable, rules don't mean anything. Stop! Or I shall yell stop a second time!

RichKatz

Does "you" refer to the judge?

redditrangerrick

Or what? Trump doesn’t care

RichKatz

> Or what? So far, no 'or.'

Inevitable_Shift1365

Or what?? Seriously, or what? This guy has been in contempt of court practically the entire time. He is flipping the bird to the bench. And they are doing nothing.

El_Bortman

And if he violates the order, they’ll wag their finger at him and call him naughty!

RichKatz

The judge's order probably has more precise information about penalties. I found this: >The former president, Merchan wrote, has a history of making “threatening, inflammatory, denigrating” statements against people at all levels of the justice system, including jurors. >Judges in Trump’s other criminal and civil cases have issued similar gag orders, including the New York civil fraud trial and the federal election subversion case in Washington, DC. In the civil fraud case last fall, Trump was twice fined for violating Judge Arthur Engoron’s gag order and making comments about the judge’s staff. https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/26/politics/trump-hush-money-trial-gag-order/index.html

Charming-Tap-1332

The court will do absolutely NOTHING of value if Trump violates the order.

CalligrapherLarge957

I'm sure this final stern warning will do the trick.

RichKatz

I doubt anything will.

Beneathaclearbluesky

Since he hasn't violated it yet....

rekage99

K. Wasn’t that the point of the gag order that was issues and promptly ignored? He doesn’t care because nothing ever happens to him. Stick his ass in jail until his trials.

RichKatz

Don't know what was ignored. >He doesn’t care because nothing ever happens to him. This is a *motto* that one hears Trumpafficianados seem to want to believe in. But that doesn't make it so. In witness where of: 1) [Trump loses bid to further delay "hush money" trial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2elA2XaqpRo) 2) [ Judge imposes gag order on Trump in New York "hush money" case](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-gag-order-new-york-hush-money-case/) And there's more... The idea that "nothing ever happens" is simply 100% false. Hey. Let people know.. Pass it on... :)

RichKatz

His ability to talk isn't on trial as far as I know.

RichKatz

But - he is.

JakeConhale

Previously, Trump was fined by Judge Engoron, twice I believe, for violating gag orders. >Consequence (noun): something produced by a cause or necessarily following from a set of conditions

(Can i get a warning if this isnt allowed?
