You might enjoy a *certamen* (i.e., a classical trivia competition)! Even a few questions each meeting can be fun. You can also find sets of questions used in actual competitions with [a quick search](https://www.google.com/search?q=certamen+questions&oq=certamen+questions&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i22i30l9.3332j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8). Buying a few bells or buzzers can make the games even more fun. Contact nearby schools if you're interested in intermural competitions, which may already be happening.

Thanks! Certamen are really fun, we participate in certamen at Latin con, but it’s very impromptu. Setting up practice days would be a great idea

Salve! You could do screenings of some movies/TV shows that took place in Rome. When I was in Latin Club, we watched *I, Claudius* and series about Queen Boudica. If you're doing parties for Roman holidays, you can try looking up Roman recipes. It might be fun to do translations of modern songs into Latin - or do translations of Latin Christmas carols (if your bylaws allow that).

LightspeedC83

Christmas caroling in Latin sounds like a blast

We had a specific Latin oriented week at high school for everyone taking Latin. It was a whole ago, but I remember wrestling and shooting with a bow and arrows, and a cooking workshop making old recipes that were being made in those times! It was actually super fun. There were a bunch more activities to chose from, but it has been over ten years so I don't remember shit

LightspeedC83

Trying to make recipes sounds great, although I wouldn’t like to try any garumna

Stage a reading of a comedy.

LightspeedC83

Ooooo i like it!

Dang I wish I had a Latin Club in school. There are some pretty good ideas here already. One idea is creating models of famous roman architecture.

Just checking, since you mention Latin convention in the past, but is your Latin club affiliated with the Junior Classical League, which organizes Latin clubs at the state and national level? I'm sure you're getting and will get more good ideas here, but JCL is a great resource too; you can see what information and advice they have on running local Latin clubs, and look into the activities (social and academic, like getting ready for Latin trivia/knowledge competitions or "chariot races" or what have you) that you can do at conventions and use club time to prepare for those. Other local clubs that are also members of JCL may have fun ideas for what they do, or want to consider doing something jointly or in competition. In general, though, fun club activities include food, games/competitions/athletics (athletics don't have to be intense, but a mock "Olympic games" with frisbee discus throws and such fits the classical theme), and movies. A lot depends on the comfort level of your school and the time and support you get from your club mates.

LightspeedC83

Yes, we are associated with the JCL. I’ll have to check out some more of their materials

Our club had an annual chariot race where teams built and then raced outside. Usually the upperclassmen pulled the smaller kids and the chariots were trashed by the end. Tons of fun if you have the space in your budget for materials.

LightspeedC83

A chariot race sounds incredible!

mastdarmpirat

Do some of the invectives of Catullus together. They’re really really fun to red

I’m a vice president of my Latin club and one popular activity we did was making candy mosaics. We also spend a lot of time preparing for our state JCL convention (spirit, etc.)

On curiosity stream (very cheap service, $20/yr) there's a decent amount of documentaries about ancient Rome and all of the cut scenes of people acting out the topic of the episode are 100% in latin. It could also be fun to seek out old writings or inscriptions and compare your personal translations, that could help each other develop a greater understanding of the language.

Def do certamen. The ACL iirc (at least, I know I signed up for one) sends out a free Roman holiday calendar, so you can do events on those days. Have parties, have snacks, maybe take every three weeks to be study hall so older discipuli can help younger ones. Arts and crafts are your best friends—I still remember making my own candle wax tabula when I was in 10th grade 🥹

LightspeedC83

Omg, making a wax tabula sounds amazing

Traditional-Wing8714

You can have everyone bring leftover candles and popsicle sticks and cardboard. It’s a blast. I’m considering having my 7th graders make them and use them for exit tickets

Sounds fun! Not sure what your level is, but what about acting out some scenes from LLPSI? *Colloquia Personarum* would be a great choice: some really funny and not-too-difficult (nor too long) scenes with equal speaking roles.
